Good, they’ve been on a tear of classic remakes here lately, and I hope the new engine System Shock was built from can be used to remake System Shock 2.

TurboHarbinger, do gaming w Nightdive's acclaimed System Shock remake heading to consoles in May

I hope they fix it first. Be adviced, this game has broken achievements, you can’t get them all.

p03locke,
@p03locke@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

They already fixed most of the bugs in the first major patch. Are you talking about the lost audio log near the entrance to the elevator on Level 8? They fixed that problem.

TurboHarbinger,

Audiologs are a pain in the ass. Everytime they patch it something else breaks.

I played the game in January, there is more logs that the first patches, but it seems the minimum you can get is still the same (had to load an early version of the game to fix that, with steam shenanigans). The “defeat shodan” achievement doesn’t work either, as in is bugged, no one has it.

So no, they didn’t fix shit. That log in L8 is still inside the fucking wall.

Please don’t bullshit me.

JohnEdwa,

You should buy “System Shock: Enhanced Edition”, as the name implies, it’s the newer better one!

Seriously, why do we keep using the same names with reboots and remasters and remakes and argh. Languages have words, use the goddamn words!

I ffeel this in my bones every day. Seems like some people are trying to make words not mean what they’re supposed to mean.

p03locke,
@p03locke@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Because System Shock 2023 just sounds goofy. I’m not sure how else they could have renamed it. They’ve been doing this with movies for decades, too.

The “Enhanced Edition” was the old version of the game with some mods and tweaks to make it playable for modern audiences. The new one is an actual graphical and gameplay remake.

Ooh, I love this game!

System Shock: SHODAN Edition

System Shock: Remake

System Shock: Unreal Edition

System Shock: Reconstructed

System Shock: Mainframe Edition

IDK, one of those probably. The trend of naming remakes or reboots the same exact name of the originals is tiresome to me.

Like Lords of The Fallen and Lords of The Fallen. Or King Kong and King Kong and King Kong. Or Godzilla and Godzilla and Godzilla.

The need to say the year when talking about something is annoying in conversation.

I love Doom, but found Doom just OK, y’know?

p03locke,
@p03locke@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

The only game I found that was actually successful in doing something like that was “Dark Souls: Remastered”, and only because it’s fucking Dark Souls.

entropicdrift,
!deleted5697 avatar

Here’s a few more. I’m only including full remakes and not any remasters, since we’re talking about the System Shock remake:

Ocarina of Time 3D

Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp

Counter Strike: Source

Crash Bandicoot N-Sane Trilogy

Destroy All Humans 2: Reprobed

DuckTales: Remastered

Dune 2000

The House of The Dead: Remake

Kirby’s Return To Dream Land Deluxe

The Last of Us Part I

Mafia: Definitive Edition

Mega Man: The Wily Wars

Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater

Metal Slug X

Metroid: Zero Mission

Metroid: Samus Returns

realMyst

Pac-Man World: Re-Pac

Panzer Dragoon: Remake

Pokemon: HeartGold and SoulSilver

Pokemon: FireRed and LeafGreen

Pokemon: Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

XCOM: Enemy Unknown

Vordus,

realMyst

Of course, that’s not the most recent remake of Myst. The current one is called, er, ‘Myst’.

Sigh. Looking forward to Riven. Again.

I suppose this just means that piracy of the Pizza Emulators themselves is going to pick up, unless there are better GB/GBA emulators for android out currently.

Anyone recommend a Bluetooth controller for Android? I just tried emulating a GB game for the first time, and remembered that I hate soft keys.

Chee_Koala,

The Xbox controller?

Bubs,

I second this. If you already have one (or even a ps5 controller) then they are a perfect choice. I imagine a switch pro controller would work too, and you get the bonus of having a nice controller for your switch.

If you don’t have one then 8bitdo is a safe choice

clay_pidgin,

I’ve got an xbox360 and a PS4 - nothing newer. I’ll have to buy SOMETHING, sadly. I do appreciate the suggestion ,though.

caseofthematts,

I’ve not tried it, but I’m sure if you can connect a PS5 controller, you can use your PS4 controller. Look it up and give it a shot!

clay_pidgin,

It seems that I can! Most excellent. Thank you.

Stovetop,

PS4 controllers use Bluetooth and can be paired with a phone.

clay_pidgin,

I assumed they were a proprietary 2.4ghz like the Xbox 360! Hot dog. Thank you.

deafboy,
@deafboy@lemmy.world avatar

Wasn’t support for them dropped basically everywhere recently due to an unfixable security bug in it’s bluetooth implementation?

SirAtomic,

I use an 8bitdo pro 2. Over kill, probably but it works with lots of devices. Phone, switch, computer.

clay_pidgin,

That looks like a good choice, thank you. I’ll see if I can sneak it past the wife.

yamanii,
@yamanii@lemmy.world avatar

But there’s no support for the phone, how will you use it? Satelite controllers are the best for this.

kronarbob,

shop.8bitdo.com/…/8bitdo-mobile-clip-for-pro-2-bl…

There is a support for the pro 2.

Mango,

It’s not Bluetooth, but the Razer Kishi pro v2 is just absolutely wonderful! It even gives you a 3.5mm headphone port with a very capable amp!

clay_pidgin,

Huh, that’s neat!

NoneYa, do games w Nintendo emulator Pizza Emulators pulls its apps from Google Play store

Exactly what Nintendo was hoping for. I can’t blame the developers, though. But this sucks.

Old ass game systems where it’s practically impossible or expensive to get the physical games anymore, let alone the console, with some titles locked to those systems, never to be enjoyed again except through emulation.

mesamunefire,

Yep. If anyone is using emulators, I would suggest keeping a copy just in case this spills over to all emulators.

Midnitte, do gaming w PlayStation studio Deviation Games has closed down

It really sucks for the hard-working employees with so many layoffs happening in the industry, but I guess it shouldn’t be a surprise since they haven’t released a game yet.

Deviation Games was formed by ex-Treyarch and Call of Duty developers in 2020, led by Jason Blundell and Dave Anthony. Eighteen months later, however, Blundell departed Deviation. It then laid off around 90 employees back in May 2023, citing a “difficult situation” that “forced” the layoffs.
