Now this is a classic. Its too bad Star Wars doesnt make more squad-based shooters. Battlefront from EA was pretty trash but also much more arcadey that I had hoped, especially coming from DICE. I wish they had just literally re-skinned Battlefield 4 as Star Wars.
A particularly hard game with more reliance on squad mechanics and teamwork that I have enjoyed playing is Ready or Not.
Its not a game for everyone, due to the developers trying to portray realistic to life crime situations that a SWAT team might be sent in on. Some missions include taking down robbers, child exploiters, terrorists, active shooters, etc. However, it is very satisfying to fully clear a mission with zero deaths, full evidence collection, and see that juicy S ranking at the end of the mission. Its really hard to do it on some missions, though. You can’t take a lot of damage before you die, most times I get hit one time and its either an immediate death or I need to stop the character from bleeding out, which happens pretty fast. You can wear armor but it makes you really slow and doesn’t do much in the tougher missions when the perps stop using the little guns and knives.
You get some cool tools, like being able to see your squadmate’s helmet camera live feed, a camera wand, a battering ram, explosive charges, shields, and door wedges.
Maybe its something you and your friends might want to try after Halo? Though maybe you wouldn’t want another shooter.
Stardew Valley. My wife and I just started playing it together. It is a good time. Genuinely fantastic game.
I picked up gaming in 2022 (played all the Halo Games, Star Wars Fallen order and Survivor, Dark Souls) and she hasn’t played anything since childhood in the 90’s… We are both loving Stardew.
I think the company is shit for delivering a shit product. It is less shit for finally delivering some of what was promised but it’s still a shit company
Abiotic Factor has been a blast with a friend. I don’t play a lot of survival games (I prefer more narrative than most offer, and Grounded was a great one for that) and this one doesn’t take itself very seriously (you craft weapons and armor from general office supplies a lot of the time… I’ve never been so excited to find a cache of staplers).
May want to turn the difficulty down if she gets overwhelmed easily, as while they majority of the game is pretty manageable, there are the occasional hard fight.
I’ll take half credit! Lol. It’s ridiculous in the best ways. I still have no idea how much longer we have on our playthrough but it is a pretty long game… Or we suck, which is very plausible.
I tried to get my friend group into this and most of them bounced off. I tried to convince the “hardcore gamers” of the group that by the looks of it things get quite hard in the late game. Bummed I never really got to experience it to that point.
Beating Dark Souls 2 without dying or using a bonfire rewards you with a ring that makes your right hand weapon completely invisible.
It isn’t worth it at fucking all, since there is a spell that does the same thing and is way easier to obtain (even in 2025 despite being a multiplayer rank reward). The spell and ring also have ZERO effect on PvE and it rarely matters in PvP when the animations of your body instantly reflect the size of your weapon to a good enough player. Like, I don’t need to see your Ultragreatsword to know that’s what you are swinging when your arm starts hefting the weight.
My favorite game to compare NMS to is actually battlefront 2, one of if not the single worst launch in video game history, after realizing their mistakes putting in the time and effort to make the game actually run well then continuing to update the game for free even after no one is expecting more content. Yes the core mechanics of BF2 is not the best even though there isn’t a single loot box or p2w mechanic left. Same with NMS the core game is still the same, it’s not a brand new concept or ground breaking new mechanics to the same game they just keep working on it, fixing bugs and adding new things. I genuinely think with the state of companies like Bungie charging for Destiny expansion in 2026, a 70$ Pokemon game with 30$ dlc, and AAAA flops this is all we can ask for back your games, COMMIT to long term development and not charge for what seems like a joke of content backed by fomo
Yes, but Hello Game is an indie game company, not a triple-A developer. Indies have a long history of long development of the game after release/public beta. The post is about the state of the game and the fanbase irrationality. HG’s direction would probably inspire a revolt in some communities.
That dominoes shit makes no sense to me. I’ve tried to look up the rules multiple times online and then I go into the game and try to make a legal move and the game won’t let me.
I tried doing Ironman a while back. Not even on classic, just on whatever the latest patch was. It was only getting easier with time and I wanted my name on that leaderboard. In my mind, it didn’t seem like it would be that difficult as long as I played carefully.
I gave up after level 20. I didn’t die, but I had a few close calls and figured it wasn’t going to be worth it to grind out 90+ more levels using the worst gear in the game and no healing or stat boosting items.
Most collecting achievements are just game filler really. The ones I find interesting are ones that, in a more free-form game, create an interesting goal to work towards.
For some of my favourites I’ve on occasion gone through the list and been like ‘Yeah that sounds like an interesting objective.’
The key for decent ones is usually that they are an achievable goal for one playthrough that act as a ‘guiding star’.
When I finish a game naturally I look at the list of stuff I didn’t do yet, and think “how much time will this take? Will I even remember doing completionist stuff in 5 years or would it be better to start a new game?”
Thank you. I’ve been just buying whatever is in the first hat stand in the store, but the last few days I’ve missed closing so I’m stuck with the Sombrero. It’s kind of grown on me so I might keep it
I have always liked ODST quite a bit for changing up the formula and being an overall solid game. I might do another run of that soon. :)
Though, I have spent more time playing CE than every other Halo combined. Much of that due to the fact only it and 2 were released for PC until somewhat recently, and Halo 2 got saddled with Games for Windows Live. But, mostly just because CE is damn good.
I’ve been listening to CE’s soundtrack regularly recently. it’s aesthetic and story are just so unique and an amazing thing I’ve never really seen replicated. Not even the sequels manage to nail it’s unique vibe, though they’re amazing in their own ways
