I have the exact same take, and the exact same experience with my friend group. I love supergiant games. Anything they touch is solid gold imo. I’ve always said that Hades is an amazing game, it’s just supergiant’s worst game.
Personally, I think for me, it comes down to the setting. Bastion, Transistor and Pyre all had amazing, unique settings that made me as a player want to learn and explore everything I could. And again, Hades does an amazing job of painting the setting and fleshing out the characters, but it’s kinda just Greek mythology, which has been done before and I personally find it less interesting.
To restate, Hades is an amazing game, just imo it’s supergiants worst game.
I absolutely suck at it, but I started a save on SimCity 3000. I have a lot of learning to do because my city is 100% dying, so I should probably run through the tutorial…
I have also been doing very minor chip damage on completing Gemcraft: Chasing Shadows. I’m far enough along it takes a long time for me to beat any levels. And probably even longer when I finally am able to beat the 200+ wave level.
I also discovered that Portal is now 7.63GB in size currently, after buying The Orange Box for $3.99 and wanting to check out a mod I found for Portal that I didn’t realize wasn’t released yet. Don’t know how big the game originally was on launch, but now it’s nearing the 11.88 GB size of Portal 2, which I find insane.
I also kept failing at Zuma Deluxe due to bad luck and skill issues on my end.
If I’m being honest, before Hades, I wasn’t sure how much of a future Supergiant had in game dev. They clearly have talent for making beautiful looking worlds with great soundtracks and writing, but their gameplay was not exceptional for the genres they dabbled in. They didn’t try to iterate either, flitting from genre to genre.
Hades was the result of them taking what they learned from Bastion and Pyre and applying it to a trend. They really nailed the gameplay this time. I think Hades 2 is even better, and I suspect it will be again be a GOTY contender when it comes out.
That said, I think they could very well end up branching out again from roguelites after this.
If you’re interested in checking out some of the lesser-known gems on PS2, consider giving Dark Cloud and Dark Cloud 2 a try. They’re both completely standalone, so you could skip the first and try the more beloved sequel. The hook for both is that as you explore dungeons, you get blueprints and resources to rebuild the outside world. Honestly? I don’t know if they aged well, but I had a blast when I discovered them about 20 years ago.
I’ve had that a few times, I do know the Boost app for iOS struggles with these posts, too. Glad you worked around it, and sorry it caused your app to get wonky!!!
If you enjoy physics based gameplay like I do, the 2D originals are a great ball of fun. Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 are also tons of fun for the same reason although both games have annoying camera issues in some places. Sonic Mania is a much newer 2D game based on the originals and was great too. The newer 3D games are very hit and miss. They play like a glorified Temple Run game where you just mash a button and race through everything without having to think which can get tedious fast
This is a cool project, glad to see things are still progressing. Is there an option for manually adding activities (like cycling or workouts), or is it solely based on the step counter of the phone?
Thank you! There is no option for that yet, but cycling basically does work if you have your phone in your pocket, or you use your watch on iOS in what we call “ankle monitor” mode. Current thinking is that we want to keep it steps based, but proper cycling support is planned. Manually adding activities likely won’t be a thing other than maybe in the single player mode, as that could be abused by players way too easily.

Chromehounds was the greatest mech game on shitbox 360 and you can’t change my mind.
The sheer variety in player created metas was glorious to behold. Sure, you could play how the game encouraged you to play and hang your weapons in “normal” configurations. But you could also bury whole teams in indirect fire with a triple double from across the map. You could build a little punchy boi buggy with a dick piston, cockpit, wheels, and nothing else. You could even try to sweat the meta in the chicken leg howitzer or the turtle up in the armored crab.
The only limits were creativity and spacer availability lmfaooo
