I can’t think of a specific example, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it involved an escort mission.

I’m not into these, even though I try them from time to time. But one was actually a looooot of fun - Shadow Warrior 2. The gunplay, the chaos, it was extremely entertaining!

And it only costs a few bucks.

simple,

Shadow Warrior 2 is so fun, I was and still am so disappointed they scrapped co-op for the third one.

_Lory98_, do gaming w Weekly “What are you playing” Thread || Week of May 25th

I’m continuing Xenoblade Chronicles X. I’ve slowed down a bit, since last time I played like 45 hours in a single week and I’ve gotten a bit burnt out. The game has also become a bit stale since since I’ve unlocked all the (main) mechanics and the mechs were disappointing.

I’m not saying the game’s bad or that I’m disliking it, but it feels too simple and repetitive for what the setting and mechanics could allow.

The ZOTAC handheld looks really nice, but I'm so hanging out for the day when we get a really nice Strix Point-based handheld. That being said I'm still plenty happy with my Lenovo Legion Go.

Been way too busy at the moment to play much at all to be honest, but I've been having a bit of a tinker with Cyberpunk 2077 on Legion Go. Even though it supports FSR 3 out of the box, it seems to run better and prettier with Decky Framegen (which is a fantastic little project, btw).

@PerfectDark@lemmy.world avatar

Once you’ve sunk some time into Cyberpunk, you can really open it all up with the tons and tons of fun mods via Nexus!!! And when I say ‘tons’…boy do I mean it!

Cyberpunk, just like The Witcher 3 holds a special place for me, even reading the title makes me stop and wonder maybe its time I played it just one more time…

Their DLC, Phantom Liberty is just drop-dead gorgeous to play though!

I just never got attached to CDPR games. They're fine (and 2077 even ran fantastic on launch for me, owing to having a 3090 at the time) but I never got anywhere near finishing any of them.

Yeah I’m currently playing cyberpunk for the first time and am loving it. Haven’t played Witcher 3 either, though that’s on my list. Had a twenty year break from gaming until I got a steam deck recently so have loads to catch up on!

Thanks for doing these, this is some top quality content!

I wonder if Microsoft is making dev mode free because hackers got close to a working exploit in retail mode. There was one shared almost an year ago, but it required a specific app from the store that had been deleted since, but maybe it led to something behind the scenes.

arudesalad, do games w Game media preservation, where?

Not the most searchable since it’s main use is through it’s api (I use it through retrodeck/ES-DE which is for ROM libraries) but screenscraper.fr contains scans of boxart, title art, videos from the games, manuals that used to come with physical copies and a lot more.

If you want retro ROMs, I can’t help you since I don’t know if I can link to those types of sites but ask on !piracy and check their wiki linked at the top of the community.

fullovellas,

Sounds interesting, I’ll check it out.

Luckily, I have the ROM part covered, but thanks for the pointer 👌

Out of curiosity, what games do you play other than Cities Skyline?

If you just want something for portability + ten minutes of gameplay, what about an android phone you can emulate on + one of those phone controllers that turn your phone into a portable console?

potate,

To be honest - that’s probably the dream setup. The challenge is that android games seem to all be low-effort ad delivery systems.

My happiest place is turn-based strategy and RPGs. XCOM, Total War: Warhammer, anything Baldur’s Gate, 4Xs that sort of stuff.

I have several hundred hours killing time on Unciv on Android. Mindustry is fun but cramped. Polybridge was great until I finished it.

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@lemmy.world avatar

Definitely go Steam Deck then. No question. You’ll have far more to choose from, and the Deck’s suspend and resume is shockingly good considering you’d never expect that feature to work on a Windows PC mid-game.

magic,
@magic@lemmy.ca avatar

Oh, in that case you might have a swell time with using an android phone for emulation. Just ignore playstore games for a minute.

I feel like you might not understand what emulation is based on you commenting that you aren’t much of a gamer—basically, using a phone you can emulate different consoles. And they often don’t have ads.

What type of phone do you have? On my S24 I can emulate up to Switch games, but a lot of phones can emulate up to the PS2 era. You can also look into something called “Winlator” where you can emulate windows games on the phone too.

potate,

What emulators do you recommend? I have an S23 but am about to try swapping it for a Fairphone running e/OS

magic,
@magic@lemmy.ca avatar

Haha honestly just go find a game that’s been on your backlog for a few years, look on Wikipedia, then see if it has a console equivalent. Then go download a console emulator from the emulation wiki recommended in another comment.

For example, if I wanted to play the original Disgaea, I know it plays on the DS in addition to the PC. So why not play it on a DS emulator like Drastic?

One? Ill narrow it down to three,

  1. Aquatic ambience (DKC)
  2. Stickerbrush Symphony (DKC)
  3. Lost Woods (TLoZ Ocarina of Time)
BreakerSwitch,

These are all outstanding songs, but Lost Woods is the only one I’d describe as “catchy”

JackFrostNCola,

True, i agree with that. I will amend to be:

  1. Lost Woods (TLoZ Ocarina of time)
  2. Song of storms (TLoZ Ocarina of time)
  3. SMW Overworld Theme (Super Mario World)
