As a person who hates phones, I love this game. I got accepted into the beta a week or two ago and having a game that doesn’t require me to touch my phone all the time is my favorite thing.

The only thing that would make it better is integration with other smart device step counters. Being able to play (more like progress I guess) a phone game while not even carrying my phone would be hilarious. I am sure you’re getting hounded by people about this non-stop.

I need to get started on this for my game. It will probably be much simpler, but that’s why I should get started now!

xilliah,

Yeah or don’t make it

averyminya,

That’s true, it could be procrastinative instead of actually working on the things that should be done…

I think it would come down to when and how I work on it, I can’t really spend 5-15 minutes on various downtimes learning coding or doing the art, but I could probably whip up an interaction chart and add to it with that short amount of time

xilliah,

Why force yourself to start something big and complicated? Just enjoy your life lol and do stuff that comes to you and feels right. Maybe that’s a game, but no need to force it.

averyminya,

Oh it does :) it’s a passion project that gives me some opportunities to make music and sound effects (something I like to do but don’t always record and save my work), and similarly I love making art but having a strong vision for what I want to make can get difficult.

But I have a really strong vision for the game in its entirety, which helps with the direction for my art and music :) I just need to build the pieces (obviously, easier said than done!) and so far it’s been enjoyable. Difficult, but understandable.

Basically, I save so many notes and other junk, but I rarely save my creative endeavors. This will be a good way for me to not only reach that goal, but to also create a game that is somewhat unique and that would be really fun to play :D

DdCno1,

Just market your game as “retro hard” and you can get away with anything. /s

averyminya,

Wait, how did you know!?

Jokes aside, it sort of is? I’m going for a Smash Melee physics movement meets Revita map design, so retro hard isn’t really too far off!

I’m whole-heartedly impressed with what you are presenting here. I wish I’d seen your booth at gamescom, since I am sincerely excited by the non-predatory design philosophy you’re describing in your blog posty on your website.

I have already set up an account and written an application. Hopefully I’ll have the chance to try this out. :)

Just signed up for the beta. I also have adhd and I was overweight for the majority of my life, and then in 2018-early2020, I went from 300ish to 160ish, and I felt great. Then the pandemic hit and I could no longer go on walks and runs and then I got depressed and then injured my leg permanently and now I’m back up to 235 and I fucking hate it but I can’t seem to get the will to walk again. So this game sounds like it would be really fun.

zephorah, do games w Is assasin's creed origins good?

Refinement wise origins is to Fallout 3 and Odyssey is to New Vegas.

I liked Origins. Tomb exploration. History lessons. Angry hippos. It was solid.

Odyssey is my favorite of the 3. Worth it.

Valhalla was too long. They took the Odyssey formula and just did too much. Normally I completionist games, but I could not finish those repeatable side quests. Odin’s marathon runs among other things. After Valhalla I had no interest in buying Mirage and doing it again.

One Way Heroics+

Semi-Rogue-like RPG, flee away from the darkness on the leftside of the screen, try and defeat demonlord and save the world. (Multiple endings)

One of my favorite games ever, guy made his own engine.

It does have design flaws, don’t get me wrong. But this is is really novel and has enough content to get somewhat deep into it.

Eventually you start seeing the same things but for essentially a one man team it’s really impressive.

Bugvasion TD (9 reviews)

It’s a charming little tower defense game where you fight bugs with very fun abilities. I also play tested it so I may be a tad biased but I think it’s underated and fun :3

I recommend Scavenger SV4It’s a very unique game where you send a rover down to a planet to grab what alien artifacts you can before your radiation exposure gets past the point it can be treated. You can bolt some of them onto your rover to make it better and send it down again. It also has several hundred different endings that are decided by how much radiation you absorbed and how much loot and what loot you brought back.

Crab Champions is a fast paced PvE shooter with roguelike elements. You basically are a crab and fight through multiple waves of enimies. You collect loot to become stronger, and there are fun boss fights. It supports co-op multiplayer, and is made by a single indie developer.

CrossCode, great characters and great story. Really good game.

ByteOnBikes,

Absolutely love this game. It has all the energy of SNES games of my youth. It’s one of the few games I’ve replayed after beating.

Downvoted.

Katana314,

Sorry for the downvotes. Look at it in a positive way! Crosscode has hit a lot of popularity over the years to be so well known.

I like everything except the long, LONG dungeons full of puzzles. I suffer through them so I can experience more story and overworld gameplay, but they’re a real slog for me. Similar problem to what I had with Fenyx Rising, actually.

Underwaterbob,

Long, long puzzle dungeons that encourage you to race against the NPCs. I hated that mechanic so much, I never finished the game.

samus12345,
@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

I didn’t know that it was actually keeping track when I first played it, but once I read that it doesn’t actually do anything, I was fine with continuing to ignore it.

Underwaterbob,

Yeah, I might get back to it sometime. It is a mish-mash of so many video game tropes I love. It was just one particular instance where I forced myself through a dungeon as fast as I could, got frustrated with the boss and died a couple of times, finally made it, and wasn’t fast enough to beat the NPC that just completely ticked me off and made me put it down. Those monk trial things really tested my patience for a bit there, too.

samus12345,
@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

I turned the difficulty all the way down, and it’s still not all that easy. I wouldn’t have gotten very far if that option weren’t there, though.

Same, that part was really annoying

subignition,

This is a fantastic game. I haven't finished it; I screwed myself over by losing patience and skipping content near the end and wound up stumbling into the final boss so underpowered that I effectively softlocked myself. I should play this through again and stick to a completionist play style.

Katana314, do games w Star Wars Outlaws - Review Thread

I’m certainly not expecting this game is amazing, but in terms of bringing a playable slice of a popular fictional world to life, I have a lot of respect for it. What I’ve watched doesn’t even fall too hard into the worst of Ubisoft formulas - and I would argue a lot of people can’t even identify what those are.

I don’t even expect to love it myself if I ever get it, but some of the hate towards the game seems so poorly formed and weird - stuff like “Looks like a mobile game” or “The main character is so ugly”. I can even get worries about it being a Ubisoft game, but just like EA, it seems like they do put out a game low on microtransactions every so often. I want to be sure they’re recognized for efforts when the game is decent.

candid,

I don’t even get the main character complaints… She’s got a cute coffee shop barista vibe to her lmao people are just weird about women being “beautiful” in such stereotypical ways I guess. Must be exhausting and extremely lonely to have such trivial “standards” for a damn video game character.

Wipeout. They can continue from Omega, it was great fun. Formula Fusion is a really cool spiritual successor by many of the original minds, but it's a little lacking in content.

Edit: lol, took me four hours to realise that continuing on after Omega rather ruins the title of that one

lime,
@lime@feddit.nu avatar

have you tried BallisticNG? very similar feel imo.

Skua,

I was actually slightly put off by how tightly it looked like it was imitating the first couple of Wipeout games, like the UI being almost identical and a bunch of the teams being the Wipeout ones with the serial numbers filed off. Like they're unwilling to try their own ideas, you know? If it's so similar, well I can still play the old games. I assume you feel differently?

lime,
@lime@feddit.nu avatar

i think that’s sort of the whole point. i mean the dev is called Neognosis. though i can definitely see how that could be unsettling if you’re intimately familiar with the franchise, which i am not.

i had the pc version of 2097 as a child and i could never get the hang of it. too technical for a 9-year-old i guess. so i never really had any nostalgia for the specifics, i just saw Ballistic on sale and thought “hey that looks like wipeout, I wonder if they still have that weird floaty feel”. it does feel like i remember, and after spending some time with it i really enjoy it even though i’m still no good 25 years later.

also they did add go-karts so it’s not entirely plagiarized ;)

Skua,

Hah, well maybe I pre-judged it too much. I'll keep an eye out for a sale on it
