bionicjoey, do games w Deadlock (Valve's Unannounced Title) Passes 12k Peak Players in Closed Alpha

For the unaware, Deadlock is a 3rd person shooter MOBA. It feels like a mix of Dota and Overwatch/Team Fortress

So like SMITE?

TheCreeperFace,
@TheCreeperFace@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

from the 1 video I saw more like Paladins with Smite item shop

simple,

Not really, SMITE is a moba that happens to be 3rd person, Deadlock actually plays like a 3rd person shooter that needs proper aiming and headshots and a much faster pace.

bionicjoey,

I see. This is probably a pretty niche reference nowadays, but is it more similar to Monday Night Combat? That was an actual shooter IIRC and had mobs mechanics like lanes and creeps.

drphungky,

Good, cause I played the Smite 2 alpha and it was kinda garbage. I literally said out loud “this is like Dota for babies”. It didn’t even have good FPS mechanics to make up for no depth.

Virkkunen,
@Virkkunen@fedia.io avatar

It's actually closer to Battleborn. Like the other commenter said, it's more of a third person shooter with MOBA elements. There's focus on movement (you can dash, double jump, crouch slide, some characters fly), headshots and distance change the damage and melee/parry are just a button, while every character has guns as their man attack means. For the moba elements, it changes a bit since there's 4 lanes and it's a 6x6.

Akrenion, (edited ) do gaming w Gamers Above 30, What Older Games Would You Still Recommend to Younger Gamers?

Need for Speed Underground 2 was a great game. Not sure how much nostalgia ia in there but it just felt good for a racer.

Bloons TD holds a special place in my heart and so does Runescape.

Don_Dickle,

I know I am old and you don’t have to call me it but F Zero was my first forway into racing.

Karyoplasma,

I loved F-Zero on the SNES and an old game called PoD: Planet of Death on the family PC.

Akrenion,

I sure hope you get your sequel eventually. I only ever played the super smash stage.

djsoren19, do games w Avowed is getting delayed to early 2025

Very disappointing if the only reason is competition. I don’t really think that any Obsidian RPG is going to sell gangbusters, and there’s not really any competition within the space, so if this is just Microsoft wanting to pad out their release schedule to keep people hooked on Game Pass, that’s scummy as fuck.

Hopefully the extra time in the tank prevents the typically Obsidian jank from creeping in at least.

Bbbbbbbbbbb,

Whether or not theres competition in the genre, putting a release around the holiday schedule is usually a bad time for your game unless you are a top name in the industry. The most famous case being Titanfall 2 being sandwiched between CoD and Battlefield with Gears of War, Final Fantasy, Pokemon, and South Park releasing at similar times too. Titanfall was drowned out by relevant and irrelevant competition and was likely the best game in that holiday season. Simply delaying it to January could have been the difference between being forgotten and the next biggest franchise.

So yes, im for Avowed being pushed back

djsoren19,

I mean, even despite that release date, Titanfall 2 sold 4 million copies that holiday season and is certainly remembered today more than Battlefield 1 or CoD: Infinite Warfare. The franchise has managed to continue through Apex Legends. Maybe delaying it would have caused it to sell a little bit better initially, but I think positive word of mouth gave it much longer legs.

Also…is anything actually releasing later this year that’s worth pushing back for? Especially in the realm of RPGs? If anything pushing it back is going to cause it to conflict with Dragon Age Veilguard, which is also looking to be released very late 2024-early 2025, and is realistically the closest competition Avowed could run into. There’s basically no other RPGs releasing this fall, so who’s to say that it wouldn’t get a ton of attention by being one of the only options in town?

gccalvin, do games w Do you prefer RTS or Turn based tactics

For those that want an RTS game that doesn’t require a high APM, I’d recommend Supreme Commander Forged Alliance (FAF) and the Sins of a Solar Empire Games (which requires an even lower APM).

skibidi,

FAF absolutely benefits from action spam, to the point where it breaks the game balance.

T1 assault bots lose to T1 tanks, and they are supposed to because they are half the price and much quicker to build. You can dance them around if you click enough and they will dodge the tank shells… a few micro’d bots can then defeat 10s of tanks. That swing in mass efficiency is already enough to decide the game on maps smaller than 20km.

RTS will always benefit from intensive micro because time is another resource. Doing more actions, assuming they are of positivity utility, gives an advantage over an opponent who does not.

'faster than light' ... frustrating space sim

took me a few days just to get the mechanics down

henfredemars,

I can only enjoy this game on easy, and I have 200 hours in the game.

Drigo,

Oh damn, I remember playing this game sooo many years ago! Unlocking all the different space ships was so fun

Donjuanme, do gaming w Grand Strategy games?

I mean… Welcome to 4x! There’s so very much out there. Have you really played no sid Meier’s civilization? That’s just a half step up on the empire building complexity (and a quarter step down on combat, which you don’t have much interest in if I understand correctly.) there are a number of other civilization inspired games that are coming out right now, as well as some older ones that have a different spin on the civ framework (I don’t have a list in front of me). Galactic civilization 3 is another half step deeper into the empire building genre, Stellaris and sins of a solar empire are also rubbing elbows with greatness of space 4x (sins is a very slow rts which might be intriguing to you). Back on earth we go for the much more involved 4x, crusader Kings, Victoria, and Europa universallis, those are entries that will make creative assembly, and their total war series, look like children playing with blocks and a peg board.

shapesandstuff, do gaming w Prey 2006 or Prey or Prey 2017; which do you prefer?

2006 was mind blowing.
i hear great things about 2017 but it’s Prey in name only. Why on earth they won’t remake OG Prey I will never understand

JackDark, do gaming w Prey 2006 or Prey or Prey 2017; which do you prefer?

2006 all the way. I’ll never understand why they opted to cancel the sequel (which was looking amazing, btw) and use the same name for a completely new IP.

N0x0n,

It’s was a really strange mix of puzzle and brainfucked mechanics. The story was original and something new/fresh.

I really hoped for a sequel or a reboot… The new IP is just ‘meh’… nothing special about it… Or maybe I’m just getting old and nostalgia is kicking in ^^

callouscomic, do games w Coming back to a western open world game H:FW after Elden Ring is a massive whiplash

They made Aloy worse in the sequel. She literally gives away puzzles and ruins things and won’t shut up. I swear she wasn’t as bad in the first game. I lost interest quickly in the sequel.

averyminya, do gaming w 98% compatibility

Unfortunately games are only one part of the problem. I just tried getting some Windows software up and running on my Steam Deck and it was a hours of hassle only to end up not even working anyway.

Is Serato DJ worth investing time into? No, probably not really. Would it have been nice for it to have worked? Yes, that’s sort of the point of computers ability, to be used.

I’m glad so many games are working, so I hope more software support comes along!

Vodulas,

It is probably a sticking point, but there are alternative options for a lot of windows software. For your case mixxx.org would be an option.

averyminya,

Thank you! I’ll check this out, I did “come across” it but I couldn’t tell if it was just for Linux DJs or if it was like the fully fledged software to use regardless of gear.

I’ll see if it works with Hercules Starlight! Thank you for the suggestion!

Zahille7, do gaming w Do you know any singleplayer games that are infinitely replayable?

Kenshi is infinitely replayable, imo.

From the alternate starts, to the different ways you can even play the game (wanna be a lone trader, traveling from town to town buying and selling goods? Want to be the ultimate warrior who can go toe-to-toe with the Spider King? Wanna build a city/outpost where you can be totally sufficient and build up your own personal army to take over the world?), to the sheer size of the world. Plus all the awesome mods that can add so much to the game that already has a lot. You start off with your skills at 0 or in the low tens, and you will get your ass handed to you on an iron platter until you actually train up a bit; but even a high or max level character can still get fucked up by the wrong group of enemies.

I have mods that add a couple new factions (the fungoids are OP), flesh other factions out a bit more with more weapons and gear, and other building mods and some QoL mods so I can truly tailor my experience how I like it.

It plays kinda like an RTS with a mix of RPG elements.

@notgold@aussie.zone avatar

I really enjoy kenshi but if your like me and don’t like losing at all then it can take a bit to get into. Still highly recommend

Zahille7,

Just save a lot, but yes. It does take a little getting used to it.

Imo General Sam’s Kenshi series is a fantastic introduction to the game, because it was mine lol
