kelvinjps, do gaming w Pet peeve, games that won't let you save

emulators have this ability

True but that won’t help with many modern games.

kelvinjps,

I believe steam can also

Really? Any idea how?

kelvinjps,

I have to test it more but it was just resuming the game on steam

I just bought Sun Haven to play with my girlfriend. I’m enjoying it so far, we kinda lost track of time playing lol. Though it seems like whatever job the host has, the players that join will have that job too which kinda sucks. Maybe I messed something up though. It doesn’t seem to matter much because you can kinda just ignore your job and do other things.

Ar Tonelico (the 1st one on ps2).

I’ve played this when I was a younger but never finished. Was bored and picked it up.

It’s still a fun jrpg, the song magic amd reyvatail mechanics are a neat twist to the basic turn-based action.

And “Diving”/dating sim mechanic of the game is a fun way to add some social aspect (besides the story).

@MJBrune I think I really like timed challenges even if I'm not very good at them.

Like block -> parry

Also with tolerance areas where you can hit a "passing" "good" or "perfect" score.

JackbyDev,

I hate games that don’t give any indication of when you’re supposed to do it. They’ll give you some tutorial on it and say “right before you’re hit” but good luck figuring out if you’re doing it too late or too early.

Slay the Spire, Mini Metro

Deep Rock Galactic

Beat Saber

Factorio (space exploration) coop

Looking back at this list, I gotta say that it’s a pretty diverse selection.

Combos. I don’t like them when they’re intentional by the developer, they need to be something that you feel like you’ve discovered on your own. I hear Baba is You is pretty good about that.

I recently observed a game of MtG where a newish player was playing a scry deck, some premade or something, had a guy who would scry every time a creature dropped, and a guy who would place counters every time he scried. He’d edited the deck slightly, added a creature that spawned tokens every time it received counters. Managed to get them all out at once before realising what he’d done; straight up had to ask if tokens count as creatures dropping because he wasn’t sure if infinite combos were real. That’s a good feeling, because it’s something he did, not something that was given to him.

Contrast League or Overwatch or whatever where the devs have specific ideas about how characters should work and will aggressively destroy things outside of that. Or just modern Magic.

metaStatic,

Diablo 3 was fucking terrible about this. anytime a good combo was discovered they would nerf it. it's a single player game, just let me have my overpowered bullshit.

Have you ever tried Skullgirls? You can form a team of up to three characters, and you can select just about any move they have as an assist, forming some wild synergies.

zergling_man,
@zergling_man@lemmy.perthchat.org avatar

I have tried Skullgirls. I will not try it again.

Tag fighters are pretty good for this though, you’re right, and especially when you can choose the assist move.

Forced sections in AAA games. If you wander left or wander right or jump or sneak a direction it didn't want you get a mysterious death. Just make it a cutscene if you are going to pidgeonhole me so much assasins creed, or a cartoon movie.

Hades. I bought it a few months ago and finally installed it yesterday. Only played about 30 minutes, but love it so far. I didn't even know it was a roguelike -- I thought it was more like Diablo from the screenshots. I just bought it because everyone said it was amazing, and I think I'm going to agree with them.

manualcookie,

Nice, enjoy it. Remember to chat to all the characters every time you can - the writing is as important a part of it as the hacking and slashing.

nanometre, do gaming w New Rule announcement: Meme Monday's

I don’t post gaming memes myself so it won’t directly affect me, but how do you count a “Monday” if taking other timezones/countries into consideration? Just curious.

chloyster,

This is a fair question. I was just going to base it off my pst timezone, but not every mod is there. I want to say we’re all relatively close timezone wise so I don’t think it’ll be an issue, but if it is we will discuss further

nanometre,

Ok, worth thinking about, so thank you for doing that. I’ve just seen cases where Europeans miss out due to rules like this.

FFVIIR and enjoying it. I’m getting the hang of the hybrid battle system, it’s a good balance of the two, curious about other titles that mix action and almost turn based style commands. Still a little annoyed at the camera and target locking, but have gotten used to it after switching to d-pad targeting.

Also just escaped fort joy in Divinity Original Sin 2. Such a great game.

I just finished Tears of the Kingdom last week. No spoilers, the final boss fight felt like a dragon ball Z episode. The health bar busting out of its usual bounds and hitting the edge of the screen was a “shit just got real” moment for me and the kids, lots of hype. I didn’t think I would see anything top Breath of the Wild in this generation but glad to be wrong.

I would agree with most about DA:O and Awakening. I consider that DA2 is also a good game, BUT it is really different from DA:O, and I feel like I liked it more after having replayed it later on.

I don’t really like DA:I, and it is only worth it if you also play the endgame DLC, because the base game ending is really underwhelming. And, the game managed to implement everything that I hate about “Open World” games.

littlecolt, do gaming w Weekly “What are you playing” Thread || Week of July 30th

Still deep in Tears of the Kingdom, but I am close to 100% of shrines and light roots. Have not even tried fighting Ganon yet, but with my power level it shouldn’t be that tough. Gonna finish it this week and then hop back to Final Fantasy 16, which I binge played release weekend and got over 50% through according to the PS5 progress indicator.

i love love love origins and da2, i have da2 tattoos, but i don’t know if I’d really recommend them. dai is overambitious and less well written than the other 2. I would give them all a shot but not feel bad about bouncing off the combat and graphics of any of them.

Still playing Diablo IV (just hit level 72) and Puzzle Quest 3 (because functional addiction, which probably applies to Diablo IV as well).

Oh, and Cookie Clicker – 459 days and counting.
