Zeepkist. It’s nice to play something that’s absolutely zero stakes every once in awhile. Race the clock in a soapbox derby car with a cute lil character, crash a few times, unlock some interesting stuff.

Mostly FFXIV. I decided to try a new class: Rogue/Ninja. Kinda impromptu, but I needed way to sneak by some baddies in the new-ish “Occult Crescent” field exploration zone. And Ninja has an ability to slowly stealth walk, going undetected by mobs.

And Oh. My. God. I’d forgotten how awful it is to level a class from 0 to 50. I haven’t done this since I did my initial class as Thaumaturge/Black Mage. Which would’ve been like 3-4yrs ago? I have other classes – technically, Jobs – to max level (Lvl 100), but those classes all start at higher levels. FFXIV is weird like that; classes from expacs 3.0 and up start at higher levels. Like Machinist at Lvl 30, Red Mage (which is my main) at Lvl 50, and one of the most recent classes, Pictomancer, at Lvl 80. I was also playing those classes/job while going through the game’s Main Story Quest, so I didn’t “notice” the grind. I was just playing the MSQ, the game, normally.

As such, I’ve really not tried to quickly grind from Lvl 1 before. And the game doesn’t help. No access to dungeons and trials until Lvl 15. And overall a very limited selection until Lvl 50. No AoE attacks until somewhere in mid-30s! Barely any attacks in the kit, until Lvl 30 (when the Ninja job opens up).

For EXP, had to grind out leves, dungeons, FATEs, and random quests. I’m not against grinding, it’s just a boring-ass grind.

Anyway, I got to Lvl 50 yesterday, so now things should start get less boring. Lvl 50 on its own opens up like 30+ instances of various kinds. And there are tons more opportunities from there til Lvl 100. My goal is to get to 100 within the next two weeks. Could probably do it this week, but I don’t wanna go that hard.

Gamesir hasn’t done wrong by me yet. I can recommend the x5 lite over what you posted for size factor alone. I got a little case for it on the cheap and it can fit in sweatpants pockets (though not jeans). I think the bluetooth x2 comes with an even smaller case for free, though i prefer the usbc connection for pass through charging.

tynansdtm, do games w Looking for controller recommendations

I have the GameSir X2 Pro and I love it. It doesn’t fit your criteria as it doesn’t fold into pocket size but maybe this is a recommendation for the brand?

gaylord_fartmaster, do games w Looking for controller recommendations

I did this same controller search earlier this year, and I can’t really compare it to any similar controllers because it’s the only one I’ve used, but I ended up going with the Abxylute S9 and I’ve been happy with it. I really wanted usb-c power passthrough and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

It’s probably too big for what you’re considering, but I think they sacrifice too much of what makes it usable and comfortable to go much smaller.

I hope 2b2t does not get shutdown next.

Contramuffin, do games w Felt the need to carve a pumpkin this year, and so attempted to depict my favourite video game spooky guys

Gives a strangely similar vibe to seeing the slide reels. Pretty cool!

Skua,

If I had a lot more patience it would be cool to try to recreate one of those slide reels as panels around the pumpkin

I played Black Desert for a time.

First problem was I couldn’t buy it. My bank refused to let me buy it. I had to go in, say yes that is my attempt, then they preapproved a third attempt. I did tell them to block it after that though, so no microtransactions.

Second, wow classes were like locked to a single sex which is weird. But oh well.

Then very very grindy.

But! Heeey absolutely beautiful even on my old shit computer. Loved that. Also loved exploring!

randomname, do gaming w Can we talk about the Roblox situation?

back when I played Roblox as a kid it was a small, windows only Lego game. at a certain point the games on the platform because much higher quality (around 2015), and it was great for me as a broke kid who couldn’t afford a better PC or “real” games.

which is why I didn’t say anything when my little brother was asking my parents if he could play it. now I really wish I had because the entire platform is a cesspool of consumerism, gambling, and predators

redhorsejacket, do games w "The King" (Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon)

Interesting. I remember taking a look at the previous game from a couple of years ago because, in spite of myself, edgelord dark fantasy is still appealing to me if it’s done knowingly (which is different, I’ll hasten to add, from not taking it seriously). However, one glance at the screenshots told me it was a deck-building game and I immediately disregarded it. It’s just not a mechanic or loop that I enjoy.

However, given that this appears to be to Skyrim what, say, The Outer Worlds is to Starfield (narrative tone notwithstanding), my interest is piqued.

Are you enjoying the game?

danciestlobster,

I am having a great time. It’s janky, but fun. It is EXTREMELY nostalgic for early Skyrim in terms of its leveling mechanics, character development, sense of humor, and jank. Just swap the tone from Nordic to early Irish dark fantasy.

redhorsejacket,

Could be that I’m a product of a country which produced Kevin Costner as Robin Hood, and therefore don’t have the best grip on the culture cross the pond, but I feel like suggesting “Arthurian”=“Irish” might get you in trouble in certain pubs.

danciestlobster,

Yeah I mean you are probably right. In my defense, though, without having spoilers, the game is emphatically NOT pro King Arthur and the main likeable factions are the ones I would describe as Irish

redhorsejacket,

For sure! You’ve convinced me to give it another look after unfairly writing it off. It sounds much more interesting than I originally anticipated.

jacksilver,

It’s 20% off right now on Steam. I’ve been eyeing it but during the fall sale I decided to go with Lords of the Fallen over this.
