I’m disappointed with it, but that’s my problem. I can’t put my finger on why, I think my expectations have changed. Somehow I was expecting it to blow me away like the first time I played it and obviously it just can’t do that.

Still gonna sink a fair few hours into it though.

Has anyone played this on the Steam deck yet?

DoucheBagMcSwag,

According to Reddit you get 15-20 fps when I’m lowest settings that make it look worse than the 2008 game

RowRowRowYourBot,

oof, thanks

See my reply to this user above, but yea don’t bother buying it if you only have the Steam Deck. Cheaper and a better experience to buy the original on GOG.

You always have the option to get a full refund within the first 2 hours of gameplay on Steam though, if you want to see the performance for yourself.

RowRowRowYourBot,

The original sold by Steam doesn’t work on the deck so Im not sure GoG’s version will

GOG version runs great for me. I just installed via Lutris using Proton Experimental, no problems to speak of while playing so far.

RowRowRowYourBot,

Then I’ll have to look into that thanks!

I will say, I’m running in Desktop mode and using keyboard+mouse. Presumably controller works, but I haven’t actually tried in handheld mode.

I can confirm, even trying several different combos of optimizer mods, plus running the resolution at 1280x720, it stutters like crazy as soon as you get out of the initial area surrounding the Imperial City and looks like dogshit because of everything at low or lowest.

Baldur’s Gate 3 with almost 100 mods (including optimizers), and similar upscaling settings at 1920x1080 in Desktop mode, runs smoother and looks better on the Steam Deck.

Since the remaster is literally using the same game logic as the original, I ended up just installing the GOG version of the GOTY edition, installed a bunch of mods, and it runs amazing. I don’t think I’m missing much in the way of changes/improvements.

I like the remaster, it plays much better than the original of course. The graphics at first were really sluggish/choppy, but i found disabling the steam overlay fixed it for me.

Zarxrax, do games w Fishing games?

The only fishing game I’ve ever played was The Black Bass on the NES. Being an older game, it has fairly simplistic gameplay that’s actually very similar to the fishing mini games that you see today.

My whole family played the heck out of Super Black Bass! Probably the best fishing I’ve ever had in a game.

Slay the spire is really fun and different than what you’ve listed.

It was the first rogue like deck building game. Fantastically done.

If you like factory designing games, I can recommend anything by Zachtronics.

They’re all esoteric programming/automation type puzzle games, and they all have their own unique solitaire games built-in for whenever you get tired of the main game.

My personal favourites are SpaceChem - scifi molecule factories - and Opus Magnum - steampunk alchemical molecule factories. Something about the molecules just works for me, don’t know why. Plus the Opus Magnum solitaire game is really unique and fun, and it has a user-made level feature, so you can keep playing.

Last Call BBS is a collection of minigames they made as their final release before shutting up shop, so it’s a lot more casual than the others, but a lot of fun.

I can appreciate the personal part you added regarding losing faith. I left catholicism in my teens. Too many inconsistencies, too much abuse of power. It started by questioning how multiple christianities could have such different rules, followed by learning how most religion is abrahamic and even more diverse in interpretation, to finally saying fuck all this.

I got FC5 in 2020 and it became hard to stomach. It felt like a real potential reality of the US that year. Cults, vehement religious figures, gun fetish, and a classic Americana setting. The prior titles were all far away, imaginary lands offering even a small degree of dissociation. FC5 was just home. I’d relate it to Harry Potter villains in the sense that yeah, of course we know Voldemort is evil, but Umbridge is the most hated character. Not because she’s worse, but because we know a real-life Umbridge personally.

FC6 hit me kinda hard in a similar way. I got into it about a year ago, not long after the israel/Palestine conflict flared up. There’s a ton of genocidal themes there.

Content Warning is easy to compare to Lethal Company. I want to say it’s better but your mileage may vary.

8 weeks into my Witcher 3 replay on the deck. Finished the campaign and well into Hearts of stone. Looking forward to the lush second DLC.

Also played the Holy Gosh Darn, really funny game, and not to repetitive time loop gameplay.

Crytek, meanwhile, made a deal with EA to develop a whole new game called Crysis, which would become famous for having realistic physics rendering and graphics far beyond consumer PCs’ capabilities. Crysis would become the benchmark for high-end computers for many years afterward.

“but can it run crysis” is ALSO a condemnation of the games sloppy coding. and you can see they’ve proudly continued this lack of quality coding in their current GaaS game, hunt showdown. where you have bugs that i’ve personally never seen in other games.

I think I’ll be picking up this game after reading this. Thank you for sharing your experience.

I’ve always been interested in this game but I had played Far Cry 2, I believe, and remember feeling it was just a chore going through the latter half of the game, so I was turned off of Far cry for a while.
