Exec, do gaming w What type of game you want to see that doesn't fully exist yet?

WoW but with the storytelling of FFXIV

Ultimatenab,

I got 5k hours in WoW up to Cataclysm and 10k+ how in FFXIV (beta tester from 1.0). I think the story telling of WoW up to WoTLK, was told amazingly well and it had a strong point, but BC was even better. Things rapidly declined from Cataclysm and this is why I never got back, whereas I’ve stuck with FFXIV for 13 years.

yuunikki, do games w What games can you recommend that didn't get the appreciation that they deserved?

Project x Zone 1 and 2

Probably my favorite crossovers in video games besides smash ultimate

OrderedChaos, do games w What games can you recommend that didn't get the appreciation that they deserved?

Avent rising. They should have had a sequel but I know it would have likely just gotten botched and I would have hated playing it.

Mirshe,

They were supposed to have a whole series IIRC, but the contract got cancelled because the initial offering didn’t sell very well. It didn’t help that the marketing didn’t really know how they wanted to talk about the game.

TwilightVulpine, do games w What games can you recommend that didn't get the appreciation that they deserved?

Fuga: Melodies of Steel. A pretty interesting JRPG+resource management game about animal kids in a giant tank from a lost civilization, fighting in a war to save their families.

CyberConnect2 has been making games for this setting since the PS1, though the previous games were more of 3D puzzle actiion games. But these games never sell as much as they deserve, Their commitment is amazing to keep trying anyway.

Figment. I’m not sure how much attention this one got, but I hadn’t heard about it until I was searching the Nintendo store for deals. It’s a short puzzle/action game with a good story that felt compelling.

What resolution are you going to be gaming at?

If you’re only at 1440p60 or something then you can cut the GPU down for sure.

if like, you aren’t too attached to the look of them, you could save a bunch by using an air cooler instead of an AIO water cooler, they don’t actually perform better than decent air coolers.

Don’t know how many AAA games you plan on playing, and I genuinely no expert, but 90% of the games I play are 3-5+ years old and my Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 (or is it 2050? I always forget. Lol) works just fine as a GPU.

Faydaikin, (edited ) do gaming w What was the formative horror game of your childhood?
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

Growing up with the NES, horror games weren’t really a thing.

Some were spooky themed, but I doubt they qualify as horror by any standard. Like Castlevania, Ghost & Goblins and such.

The first real horror game I remember playing was Phantasmagoria. But I was a teen at that point, so it’s not really from my childhood.

Edit: Remembered my actual first horror game.

I loved Resident Evil but it was the third one that really got me, with the havoc in the streets and the scare where you realize Nemesis can literally chase you from room-to-room and/or show up literally anywhere at any time.

The first NES Castlevania. Still a classic.

I actually have a 3E diorama of from the opening level hanging in my condo. I replay it once or twice a year. Still holds up.

conciselyverbose, do games w Mad Max vs Days Gone, which do you like more?

Mad Max was decent, but it chose setting over gameplay with how insanely empty it is, and while car combat is fun, driving without the combat really isn't and there's a huge amount of it to make the big empty desert feel like a big empty desert.

Festers Quest for NES. It is an Adams Family game where you shoot alien toads with a plunger. It is a definitely, definitely not horror game, haha.

BUT, to fight bosses you have to walk through these totally empty 3D buildings, not knowing what was around the corner. So uneasy.

And when you finally do find the boss BOOM! Almost like a jump scare, similar to the Friday the 13th NES game. Totally terrifying haha.

vettnerk,

I had forgotten all about that game until your description made uneasy memories of those boss battles awaken.
