Honestly, I just want steam to sync my settings between computers (best they can). That would be… Game changing.

addie,
@addie@feddit.uk avatar

I dunno how common a use case that would be. I’ve a laptop that makes a great job of Dwarf Fortress but gets a bit hot and choppy when doing 3D, and a gaming desktop for ‘everything else’. I certainly don’t want those settings synchronised. My friends with Steam Decks like the cloud saves but need to set lower settings than their ‘main computers’. Strikes me as unusual to have multiple machines with roughly equal capability, unless you’re an internet cafe from the 90’s and have multiplayer Doom set up.

Ptsf,

I think you misunderstood what I desire, I’m not saying to sync game settings. I merely want configurations such as “disable the advert pop-up” and “turn off Xbox controller xbox button launches big picture mode” (whatever it’s called in the actual settings) to sync across my devices. Heck add a toggle and a page that let’s people decide what to sync completely optionally. I’d still love it. Lol

One of my favorite games is trying to get the best price on a game I want. My backlog is a few years long at this point, so I don’t need to buy any new games. But if I can find one I want for 90% off or more, I usually buy it anyways.

That’s amazing. How did you build the vertical space? I built about 300 observation towers into a lovely platform to ‘skydive’ from, and then my game lagged out. I have a really old comp, so it was expected, but still grumbling worthy. I couldn’t really get the hang of the vertical building without stacking and deleting platforms.

Blisterexe,

Thanks! I used walls to measure out the height each floor then built out the platforms, I used the jetpack and the hoverpack to be able to get the heignt required.

My pc is a fairly recent midrange so I haven’t had too many performance issues yet.

How tf do people build stuff like this? Looks beautiful!

Looks incredible. I love this game so much.

I have only just started creating individual off-site factories for major production. I have a hefty boy that produces 250 stators per minute, but it’s not nearly as pretty.

Solemarc, do games w Did nightreign flop?

I wouldn’t say it’s a flop but it is kinda light on content. I finished they game on week 1 played a bit more on week 2 where nothing changed I then uninstalled it. I’m back right now because they’ve released new content though.

Most games do have huge concurrent player falloffs pretty quickly helldivers 2 currently has a 24hr peak of 63k and I wouldn’t call it a flop. Path of Exile 2 currently has a 24hr peak of 17k players, I wouldnt call it a flop. Somehow Dragon age veilguard was at the top of the steam charts in week 1 and we all know it was a flop. I’m not sure steam charts are a particularly useful metric. Fromsoft seems very happy with the amount of players in NightReign and that’s probably the most useful metric we have.

I think maybe I'm spoiled by the movies, but... I kind of hate it? I hate all the ways they had to cherry pick Dune stuff to turn it into a survival crafting MMO like Conan, especially in the parts where the lore fits worse than Conan. And the story is extremely videogamey. I think the new films are already a bit overly literal when it comes to choosing between the politics and the psychedelia, but man, does Dune Awakening do videogame-ass videogame dream sequences.

The disconnected, patchy reality of the original Cryo Dune got to the right feel accidentally, but there's something to seeing the setting reduced to a skin over Conan Exiles that seriously rubs me the wrong way.

ryven,
@ryven@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

The videogamey parts are really funny to me. I laughed my ass off when I saw Thufir Hawat standing around in the heat outside the Leto residence in Arrakeen because I guess players have to talk to him at some point, and the interior of the residence doesn’t exist in the game, so he has to stand around under an awning in the parking lot like a valet or something.

SacralPlexus,

Totally agree. I only got it to play with friends who are into it but was hoping it would be good. The story / cutscenes are so incredibly cheesy to me. It’s almost a parody but the joke never quite lands.

Steam big picture mode enjoyer here, I generally just use it on my steam deck though. I get the vr misclick thing as I never use VR but I’ve never accidentally opened it

iAmTheTot,

Why would you need to use big picture mode on your steam deck when its entire gaming UI is designed for it?

Chronographs,

I mean the gaming UI is big picture mode, essentially, that’s what I’m referring to

iAmTheTot,

Ah, I did not think those two things were the same. Doesn’t the Steamdeck UI have different features than big picture mode?

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

No, it’s exactly the same.

iAmTheTot,

Big picture mode can do the power control and gpu throttling and stuff? That’s dope. I gotta check that out when I get home.

Ulrich, (edited )
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

No, but that is also not a function of Big Picture Mode exclusively, that’s a function of Gamescope, Steam, and Linux as well.

iAmTheTot,

I run Linux at home lately. I guess I’m just confused now because they don’t sound the same anymore. But it’s not that important. Have a good day!

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

If you run Linux and Gamescope then yes, you can do that, although it’s probably not super useful to throttle a desktop processor.

iAmTheTot,

Less power is less power! I undervolted my 9070XT to use significantly less power, but only lose around 2% performance. I guess I’ll have to look into Big Picture Mode, haven’t used it in years. I had been waiting for SteamOS for desktop to use those kinds of features seamlessly as on the steamdeck. Awesome!

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

You won’t be able to undervolt your GPU from Big Picture Mode. You can’t do that on Steam Deck either, you can only lower the TDP of the APU.

iAmTheTot,

I didn’t say that I would do that from Big Picture Mode, I was saying I already do that. I have a steam deck and am familiar with its capabilities, thanks!

grue, do gaming w Fuckin nuisance

Desktop mode is good.

Big Picture Mode is good.

Why it’s so easy to accidentally switch between the two makes no fucking sense.

ech, (edited )

Why it’s easy is because the window control buttons are slightly different on steam then on every other window on the PC, putting the big picture mode button right behind where the minimize button usually is. Why Valve did this? No fucking clue.

My thing is I wish there was an easy way to get out of BPM. The few times I’ve accidentally switched to it, it takes me at least twice as long to find out where the button to switch back is

Edit: whenever I go to the power button on the sidebar in BPM, it never gives me an option to exit, just to turn off my PC completely.
