TwilightVulpine,

Amazing game. I'd recommend it for everyone.

TwilightVulpine,

If they do that I'll just stay on the Switch.

TwilightVulpine,

While I personally have no opinions on FFXVI, I find that such a consumeristic stance, that the only valid way to form an opinion is by (buying and) playing/watching/using it themselves. Because if so, how can anyone be meaningfully opposed to a product or a piece of media? Seems a little strange if even people who are critical of something are supposed to buy it.

Sure they may have no firsthand impressions, but they might make their minds from a variety of reviews, critiques and discussions around it.

TwilightVulpine,

I don't know how a Final Fantasy game of all things is not going to be political. I don't think I have played a single one that wasn't profoundly political. They are always dealing with war, oppression, exploitation, power struggles and often use metaphors for other issues.

The beloved Final Fantasy 7 is blatant with its environmentalist and anti-corporate themes. All the Ivalice games (FF12, FFT and Vagrant Story) pretty much breathe politics, and while I didn't go too far into Final Fantasy 14, that also seemed pretty political.

TwilightVulpine,

Dumb shit to do but a felony? That's just excessive. This is no violent crime, and it's not a large scale one either.

Once again the law seems to care more to serve corporate interest than what is just.

TwilightVulpine,

Sometimes people flock to a figure because they see them as a struggling underdog challenging the whole world.

But even that angle kinda falls apart when you remember that this guy is the wealthiest person in the world. He's not a brave rebel. He's not even taking a stance on something important, though he very well could, with his money.

TwilightVulpine,

I'm not surprised a community with a person's name in the title focuses on them. It's like saying "don't think of a pink elephant"

PlayStation Portal Doesn’t Have Bluetooth (gamingbolt.com)

Sony has officially unveiled the PlayStation Portal, and as a cloud-exclusive Remote Play handheld device, it’s obviously got a few caveats attached. The fact that it can’t play native games – or any native media – is, of course, one of them, while it’s also been confirmed that even the cloud library of PlayStation...

TwilightVulpine,

"There you go son, the Nintendo Plaything that you wanted! "

TwilightVulpine,

Yup. There is a lot different objects and effects that can interact with each other in unique ways. It's only expected that there will be a lot of edge cases.

TwilightVulpine,

Tell me lies, tell me sweet little lies 🎵

TwilightVulpine,

Either in color or black and white, that is a gorgeous game

TwilightVulpine,

Chicory is an artistic top-down Zelda-style game that is not only adorable with its cute characters and world, but it also invites you to add color to the world and give it your own touch.

TwilightVulpine,

Legally they can't do it, but we need a legal solution for the quick obsolescence of digital media. Digital media can't be reasonably expected to last "120 years from the date of creation" like books can. By then not only servers are sure to be down, but every single XBox 360 will have turned into piles of rust. Even movies struggle to last this long.

TwilightVulpine,

I've been feeling like console generations don't need to come as often as they do now and this only strenghtens my view. Rather than making new consoles as tech evolves, since we are facing diminishing returns, they are making them larger and more expensive. Given how the economy is, and how much people can afford, if they expect to keep making future consoles increasingly more expensive, they'll find quickly that there is a limit to how much people are willing to pay for an entertainment device.

Not to mention that the production costs to keep up with the graphics potential of these extremely powerful consoles are also increasingly unsustainable. It's time to focus on game design above anything else.

TwilightVulpine,

I don't think that is going to work as well for consoles as it does for phones. People can just keep playing older games. Living in a third-world country I know that too well. And if they try to sabotage the consoles, that might drive people away from console gaming entirely.

TwilightVulpine,

They still need a reason for people to buy them. The usual one being "look how much prettier it is!", but they are getting to a point the leaps of graphical fidelity enabled by technology are smaller and smaller, but the costs of making everything higher definition are skyrocketing.

TwilightVulpine,

The game is getting all those likes or something

TwilightVulpine,

But it would be very funny if they went "X is about to change for a little bit and then go back"

Epic is now offering 100% of the revenue to exclusive games for the first 6 months, up from 88% (store.epicgames.com) angielski

Personally, as a customer, not a developer, this is disappointing to me, as there's still no reason for me to shop on Epic when they don't support my operating system, so this is likely just going to entice more developers to make me wait 6 months to play their games. Nonetheless, it's gaming news.

TwilightVulpine,

Good for the devs who need the money but as a customer Steam just provides more, and if not Steam, GOG is DRM-free and ItchIO enables smallers indies to get their games out there. Epic isn't even on my list of places to buy. The only thing I bought in Epic, funny enough, was Fortnite Save the World, and I didn't get much out of that.

Denuvo security is now on Switch, including new tech to block PC Switch emulation (www.videogameschronicle.com) angielski

The first of the tools Denuvo is offering to Switch developers is Nintendo Switch Emulator Protection, a “revolutionary technology to protect games launching on Nintendo Switch from piracy”....

TwilightVulpine,

I buy physical because I don't trust Nintendo's online services, but I'm not even going to get physical if it comes with DRM. I'm buying it expressly to dump it and run in an emulator eventually.

Not to mention that the Switch is already showing its age, so any added burden is going to come with noticeably performance loss.

PlayStation’s first Remote Play dedicated device, PlayStation Portal remote player, to launch later this year at $199.99 (blog.playstation.com) angielski

PlayStation Portal remote player brings the PS5 experience to the palm of your hand. It includes the key features of the DualSense wireless controller, including adaptive triggers and haptic feedback*. The vibrant 8-inch LCD screen is capable of 1080p resolution at 60fps, providing a high definition visual experience that’s...

TwilightVulpine,

When faced with the success of the Switch they decided to make a Wii U. Who can understand what's going on in their heads...

TwilightVulpine,

Only for the movies. People have been saying that the voice in Super Mario Wonder sounds like someone else.

TwilightVulpine,

Is this real? Because it sounds like parody.

TwilightVulpine, (edited )

We are the problem in so much it's very well known that psychologically conditioning tactics work on the human brain.

The real problem is a lack of education and regulation. People know regular casino gambling is a problem but governments act to make people aware and limit its harm. Meanwhile even rating agencies play coy about the effects of lootboxes in games rated for actual children. They try to argue that it's not "real gambling" because players can't officially redeem rewards as money, but it's exactly the same as far as the negative effects go, incentiving compulsive spending which can be financially damaging.

TwilightVulpine,

It is an absolute sham that they aren't regulated as strictly as casinos, exclusively for adults, with the company liable if they fail to prevent minors from participating.

TwilightVulpine,

Expecting growth to keep up forever is investor nonsense, but it is very relevant that, up to 2021, mobile games which are largely based on the freemium model have overtaken the rest of the industry by far. Console and PC games are now a secondary market, which is sad to see.

TwilightVulpine,

The graph and tables are for total revenue across the industry and they even separate ad revenue into a different category. What this shows is that freemium is more expensive than paid at this point.

TwilightVulpine,

There is some merit to that but we aren't just counting players. People seem to be ultimately paying more. If mobile gaming was more available but also more affordable the revenue might not surpass console and PC games.

Which is no surprise, since most freemium games are structured to get players spending, dangling extra lives and new characters in front of them, often escalating to the point where even people grinding hours every day struggle to advance without paying. It's not uncommon to see people in mobile gaming communities saying how they spent thousands of dollars on a game and regretting it, something that is not even a possibility for console games without microtransactions.

TwilightVulpine,

Is there a reason why the dogs chase you down an entrance but not the other?

TwilightVulpine,

Fontaine is looking pretty nice. I need to start the quest headed there now that I finished the main story in Sumeru.

TwilightVulpine,

Cool! Few games can get underwater movement right, I need to get to it

TwilightVulpine,

On Steam being reviewed poorly is not a matter of rating from 1 to 10, but how many people would recommend it or not. It's completely valid that the vast majority of people would not recommend this game even if it's not a 0/10.

TwilightVulpine,

You are really trying to downplay the power of marketing, but you seem to realize that gets people playing. Not only that but live service design is very effective at keeping people playing even when they are not having any fun whatsoever. Because they gotta grind the battle pass and such. Extrinsic rewards and habit-forming conditioning making up for a lack of intrinsic enjoyment.

Still, I would agree with you that it's not the worst game on Steam, but like I mentioned in the other comment, that's not what steam ratings mean. It means that the vast majority people would not recommend it, and that seems pretty reasonable.

TwilightVulpine,

You tried to argue with someone else over this, but the fact that more people played it, being F2P, means that more people can agree that they wouldn't recommend it. Given how Steam ratings work, that makes it the worst rated. There's no arguing how it is. You seem to take an issue with it as if it meant Gabe Newell personally stamped it with a 0/10, which is not how it works.

In Steam, being 4/10 for thousands of people is worse than being 0/10 for a couple people.

TwilightVulpine,

Doesn't look like you even read my full comment so I'm gonna wait till you do.

TwilightVulpine,

Oh, so you have no response to it so you are gonna pretend it doesn't matter. I see.

I could say I'd do the same but nothing you are saying now even addresses what I already responded to you, so I'll just call it a job done.

TwilightVulpine,

They want people to buy before they know what is like so they don't have a chance to reconsider or regret it. This is why they hype preorders.

TwilightVulpine,

Like people have been pointing out, it's usually indies which don't have an establish audience yet that do this. It's much rarer for triple A games.

TwilightVulpine,

Seems like it's going to be a pretty difficult game, if we are supposed to solve problems that aren't even being solved in real life.

TwilightVulpine,

This was great when Celeste did it, I hope more games embrace it.

TwilightVulpine,

Then it turns out everyone else is on vacations and the last one just forgot and stayed behind.

The Steam Deck is changing how normies think of gaming PCs.

Just thought I’d share something I thought was pretty interesting. I have a mother in law who is… well let’s just say she’s a stereotypical older mom who doesn’t own a computer, just an iPad. During the pandemic, she started getting into Nintendo games and bought herself a Switch. Fast forward a few years later and...

TwilightVulpine,

Cringe is a thing, but it's way too common that people use their own self-consciousness as an excuse to try to shame people who are just enjoying themselves on their own corner.

TwilightVulpine,

Putting the connotation aside for a moment, is it even accurate to call people who are interested on niche secondary gaming devices as "normies"? Whatever may be their backgrounds, seems to me like they are dedicated gaming enthusiasts.

TwilightVulpine,

The save warning is helpful for kids who don't get how game saves work yet.

TwilightVulpine,

Seems pretty common in games with auto saves that they will show a little icon whenever they are doing it.
