TwilightVulpine,

I question the proposition that any creative work is done "better" without humans being involved. Cheaper, faster? Yeah, and that is why executives are all for it. But it's not better. Expression and communication are important aspects of art. To substitute that with thoughtless automated content slop is no improvement.

It's not like cheap t-shirts which, as long as you are clothed, the aesthetics and craftsmanship is a secondary consideration. The aesthetics and craftsmanship of media are everything in it.

We can't forget that even the original Luddites only wanted to protect their livelihoods and working conditions, and though they were defeated, those fights didn't end with them. Because it isn't about hating technology. It's about the right for a decent life. Unfortunately the benefits of automation are inequitably distributed. Executive profits soar, but the people which used to be employed in those roles struggle.

It isn't even Luddism from artists to demand approval and compensation when it comes to having their work and likeness used to train AIs. These AIs we see today relied on massive disregard towards smaller creators' intellectual rights to get off the ground. It's telling and revolting how considerations towards intellectual property only seem to matter when the affected parties are massive media companies.

TwilightVulpine,

I'm not super attached to a person or a specific voice in new animation or voice-acted media.

If you cared about any work of animation in the last century, I find that hard to believe.

TwilightVulpine,

I haven't played Pikmin but when it comes to BotW/TotK I still would prefer if weapons didn't break. Seems to me that it creates grind and it takes away flexibility, because more situational options take the same slots as raw power, and get spent just as quickly. Comes to mind also how XCom 2 insisted on turn limits, and one of the first mods it got was to remove the turn limits.

Sometimes designers insist on certain limits to prevent that players "optimize the fun away" but they don't realize that some players legitimately do have more fun without those limits.

TwilightVulpine,

I get the reasoning in theory, but... it doesn't work for everyone.

Speaking for myself, I don't appreciate the anxiety. I only played XCom EU but the timed missions were the ones I hated the most. I just didn't want to play a game that was just that every time. It doesn't make me thrilled, it makes me stressed. I do actually want to inch my way through every mission, so I can stay prepared for danger, since the game will pop out a bunch of enemies with free actions at any moment. I felt like the commander of an elite team whenever I managed to badly damage any enemy even before they got the chance to attack.

When they "fixed" me "optimizing the fun out of the game", they just took me out of the game entirely. What they see as fun or not fun is not universal.

Some might say that if this is how I think maybe that's not the game for me. But if having both possibilities is an alternative, why shouldn't I be able to play the way I actually like it?

TwilightVulpine,

I unironically love that game. It was equal parts bold and stupid. Where else you can find a game about a cartoon mascot character who can side with a alien-demon invasion to try to kill the president and the hero protagonist? SEGA can be judged for many things but they weren't afraid to dare.

I also really like how they did multiple endings. I know ultimately there is a single canon one but it's still interesting to see all the others.

Compared to Sonic Heroes which was released during the same generation, I like this game much more.

Where are all the good stealth games?

I’ve been trying to find one throughout the Steam summer sale and come up dry, and now I’m out of money until the 15th. Hopefully y’all can help me find a good one before the winter sale. Here’s a rundown of what I’ve tried so far and what I’ve liked and dislike about them:...

TwilightVulpine,

If you want something really different but really cool you should look into Invisible Inc., rogueline turn-based tactical stealth in a cyberpunk setting. The way they handle the levels of alertness and challenge ramping up as you remain for too long and take risky actions in each level is really interesting.

TwilightVulpine,

COO says coming benchmarks will show anti-piracy tech has no performance impact.

They do decryption and network calls during runtime. Computers are not magic, you cannot do additional processing, call on external resources and not have a performance impact. I will never trust when they say this, not once ever. They have a vested interest in convincing people of this even if it's simply not possible.

TwilightVulpine,

Sure if the person's PC is well beyond what is required they won't notice it, but I've played on old and underpowered PCs with bad internet connections enough not to assume that there will be always plentiful resources to spare.

TwilightVulpine,

Just because they aren't on gaming sites it doesn't mean they aren't looking for cracks.

TwilightVulpine,

FIFA is one of the most popular game in Brazil, a country of over 200 million people. I doubt it's a matter of little interest.

It really is that Denuvo is effective at preventing cracking.
