This is Olaf Scholz, the current Chancellor of Germany (head of government). He injured his eye recently and has been wearing this eye patch since then.
“Emulators & ROMs” part of megathread. Think it’s not worth to buy something for the roms when you can donwload them. Why not get something modern like a steamdeck or ayaneo for a true handheld experience?
The main reason is because I dont have 400 bucks (much less 1000) to burn on something nice to have atm. I could absolutely use one of my two beefy computers if need be but I figured I‘d ask what other people do.
I highly recommend moving that to a docker or podman setup. Gluetun is the go-to for VPN traffic. Set up a little container and you can link other containers to it to route all their traffic through.
~~I’ll humbly ask one more thing. This is fine on desktop with Brave, but on iOS with any browser or stream, I can’t avoid a VPN popup. Anything I can do to troubleshoot? I do have a content blocker. ~~
I use a ip link checker - to verify the vpn is working like it should. They're a dime a dozen but this one is the one that showed up first on my search.
basically, you download a unique-to-you magnet torrent, and then the torrent / website will tell you what ip is being shown to the outside world. if you leave it in your client you can see at a glance what ip you are actually using in your client.
Why go all this way to build this stack on German hardware under the constant risk of being found out by copyright holders and being fined hundreds if not thousands of euros - when you could just get a seedbox that’s automatically configured for exactly this purpose and can run all the apps you need? Look at ultra.cc for example, they just work, don’t cost a lot of money and don’t annoy you with DMCA notices. And if you dislike their price or anything else, there’s limitless options out there.
Ultra is what I personally have been using for a while now without a single problem. But as I already said, there are plenty of other hosters with the same featureset, though I cannot make specific recommendations - but the seedboxes community on reddit may.
Regarding the DMCA, usually these hosters base their operations out of countries with lax or nonexistant copyright laws, allowing them to simply disregard incoming takedown notices. In Ultra’s case, they claim to forward copyright notices to the respective server owner, but I have yet to receive a single notice. Though I’m also exclusively on private trackers, maybe thats a reason too.
How should they even know? How should they prove that you are in posession of that data? Yes Hetzer most likely has to respond to reports but again how should the rights holder find out? Just because they find a jellyfin server in the wild? Even if the site is not SSL protected they are not Man in the Middle the traffic.
Could someone kindly ELI5 how to lidarr-ize my liked tracks from Spotify, please?
My collection there is quite static and I think I’m a good candidate to go MP3/AAC/whatever 🏴☠️ plus Spotify free just to keep up to date with newly released singles/albums from time to time.
Thanks!
P.S. also what comes after would be great, i.e. how I can batch transfer all those files from my home server running lidarr to my Android phone/PC and keep them in sync after the initial transfer. Plus also a nice feature rich Android app, either free (no ads) or even better open source with an accessible price.
Skip Lidarr for your initial move. Use Deemix. You can find links to premium ARLs on the wiki or with a google search (or DM me).
Deemix has an option to sign in with your Spotify account and download playlists. There’s a weird song count limit, and you may have to manually hit some tracks. But this is the way.
You can also do Flac with this setup. You don’t necessarily need it, but if you’re making the move, I recommend it. Since Flac is lossless, there’s never going to be an upgrade.
Also, if you’re up for the self-hosted life, what comes next is a music server. If you have good access to WiFi or unlimited data, this eliminates storage as a bottle neck. I recommend Navidrome. But something like Jellyfin or Plex can do Movies and TV, if you want a 1 size fits all.
If you’re not, look into Syncthing. You chose a folder on your computer and one on your phone and this app keeps them in sync. After that, my favorite player was GoneMad. It’s offline, with real support for music tags. This allowed song ratings and real smart playlists
Yeah I forgot to mention that I’m already living the self hosted life, I got a small home server with the arr suite, jellyfin and a few other containers.
Didn’t know about syncthing, I’ll definitely check it out. Same for GoneMad 👍🏻
I've been using Qobuz. Sure it's still paid, but I can buy downloads for any of the music on there. Same with Bandcamp. I've been buying one album every paycheck and putting them on my storage blocks, then putting them on my media player and phone. I support my favorite bands, and get to keep something in return. On top of all this, I hunt down CDs. I've got a massive physical music collection, and it's nice.
