And it’s a FREE update to the original game. Pretty sweet!

James, w Xbox Game Pass trial reduced from one month to 14 days

A little bit puzzling at first, but it does make sense.

With starfield coming out, they don’t want people to get the trial to essentially play it for free and then stop using the service.

1 month is just about enough time to beat a large game for someone who has a few hours a day to play. 14 days won’t be enough for most people.

avatar, w Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and the Super Mario Bros. Movie drove Nintendo to a record-breaking quarter | Geek Centrals

But which did better, and by how much over the other?

TheYang,
@TheYang@lemmy.ml avatar

As of August 6, 2023, The Super Mario Bros. Movie has grossed $574.2 million in the United States and Canada, and $779.3 million in other territories, for a worldwide total of $1.355 billion.

wiki

[Tears of the Kingdom] sold more than 10 million copies in its first three days of release, and had sold over 18.5 million copies by June 2023.

wiki

at 69.99 a game, would mean the total volume sold is roughly $1.295 billion, 60 million less than the Super Mario Movie.

I’m not certain if the movie gross is the same calculation though. It seems that the calculation is fair But data for Tears of the Kingdom is about a month older so that it seems possible it passed The Super Mario Movie by now.

BlackEco, w Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare Coming to Switch and PS4
@BlackEco@lemmy.blackeco.com avatar

That’s not what I wanted, I wanted RDR on PC 😟

Anyway, it’s extremely weird that they chose to release it on PS4 with backward compatibility to PS5 🤔 (according to Rockstar)

circuitfarmer,
@circuitfarmer@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

This gives me a little hope that we can at least emulate the PS4 version (using pcsx4). This can be done already with the PS3 version but the requirements are hefty and it’s pretty clunky.

Edit: nm, pcsx4 is scammy and bad news.

    My thinking was the graphics themselves actually, on the assumption that the Switch version wouldn’t look as good, but wasn’t considering that this is an old title so probably won’t matter

    SatanicNotMessianic, w Baldur's Gate 3 is defying game industry trend-chasers — and is being rewarded for doing so | Windows Central

    For anyone else who is wondering - the game works great on the steam deck. I actually prefer it over my macbook pro because it’s easier to read the screen. I’ve gotten hours logged into the game so far.

    It is a perfect update of the franchise. The storylines and writing are top notch, and the technology is blowing me away with how they managed to update everything while keeping the feel.

    If true, I hope that they leave some of the goofy bugs and ai in the game. I think the weirdness of the interactions between NPCs is part of what made me love the game so much before.

    O: “Heard any news from the other provinces?”

    M: “Nothing I’d like to speak about.”

    O: “Good day.”

    M: “Go.”

    O: " heLLO! "

    M: “Hi.”

    I also loved how the guards would try to attack through through space and time, with a lively “Beuaregeh!” as they hit absolutely nothing.

    Other times, you’d see a guard kill someone, only for that same guard to go up to the body, gasp and shout “there’s been a murder!”.

    I loved some of the messed up object physics too.

    Cheese, w OpenMW (Open Morrowind) 0.48.0 Released!

    Anyone here still play the game? Is it still worth playing, compared to newer games?

    Computerchairgeneral,

    I'd say so, but then again Morrowind has a lot of quirks that make it hard to get into for modern players. Like the fact that the game doesn't have quest markers. Instead, you get directions like "follow the road and turn left at the fork, it'll be the first cave you see" and you have to follow those directions if you want to find anything. Or how the game uses a dice roll-like system to decide if you hit with your weapon or succeed at casting a spell. At the same time, there is a lot to like about Morrowind if you give it a chance. Unlike a lot of modern RPGs, you don't start out as anyone special. You're a nobody and you stay as a nobody for a good chunk of the game. To advance in the various guilds you have to actually level up your various skills and do enough quests to earn a promotion. So when you do reach the rank of guild master or complete the main quest and people call you a hero it feels like you've really accomplished something.

    So yeah. Definitely worth playing, but it's not for everybody and you have to remember that it's an RPG from the early 2000s. If you play it with OpenMW there's a great site called Modding OpenMW that catalogs mods that are compatible with OpenMW.

    verysoft,

    I wish RPGs would be more RPG again, immerse us in the world with things like directions rather than a UI for everything. Make players figure things out instead of being so hand-holdy.
