I like the term boomer shooter. The reason is the alliteration. But more importantly…
Rookie Level 1 Gamer: “They’re called boomer shooters because they’re old like baby boomers”
Veteran Level 20 Gamer: “Baby boomers thought Doom was satanic, that’s a stupid term”
Enlightened Level 60 Gamer: “They’re called boomer shooters because of the huge debt they owe to the original Doom modding scene and therefore “Boom”, one of the first limit-removing source ports”
GigaChad Level 80 gamer: “Who cares. My ego isn’t so delicate as to have my sensibilities offended by whatever the fuck you want to call it. If you think something like ‘MyHouse.wad’ is something that is for “bOoMeRs” (a.k.a. anyone old enough to know that it’s called a “VCR,” not a “VHS player”) then you’re the one missing out… not me.”
There are 2 games where windows is neck to neck or better, 3 where SteamOS is far ahead
Some doubts:
Did the author run the benchmarks few times to rule out shader compilation. 99%ile would be helpful.
I wonder if it makes sense to test DirectX10, 11 and 12 games separately to better understand where Proton has an edge.
I wonder what all settings can be tweaked in Windows to find potential fixes (core isolation, cpu boost, power profiles).
Point is Microsoft and OEMs need to do better, however not every game or subscription services work on Linux, so in the interim time users should know what they can do to close the gap better.
no?, Valve tried, never gave any result, and linux surpasses it in a year of thet launch of steam deck, Apple also don’t help fucking with opengl, vulkan and switching to Arm
I’m playing out of sync. I did Valhalla Odyssey and now I’m playing through origin. I enjoyed a lot of Valhalla. I can see how they tweaked and polished from origins. I think I preferred the scenery in Odyssey and maybe the story and people. Valhalla had best fighting and slo mo. Graphics were outstanding and voice acting was pristine by Valhalla.
Valhalla is a nice action game but it’s no AC game. Especially the stealth part and name-sake Assassination gameplay take up too little space. And the skill tree they copied from PoE is just ridiculously overloaded - symptomatic for Ubisoft‘s approach to the whole game: it’s so convoluted.
I really enjoyed Valhalla but as an AC entry it disappoints.
Microsoft upped the Gamepass price on the basis that it would allow for bigger titles. Honestly I think they are delivering on that with Starfield and Forza Motorsport amongst others. EA Play inclusion also adds value as does having the 2 out of the 3 most recent AC chapters. Ubisoft + can go suck a dick though, I want Valhalla and eventually Mirage on Gamepass.
