verysoft, w After 27,000+ Steam reviews, Overwatch 2 is graded as 'Overwhelmingly Negative'

Good, they absolutely fucking butchered the game just to sell cosmetics and heroes.

remotelove, w Valve Says Counter-Strike 2 for macOS Not Happening Because There Aren't Enough Players on Mac to Justify It
@remotelove@lemmy.ca avatar

If you make weed legal, the number of people breaking the law will go down.

If you don’t make any games for an OS, you won’t have any players on that OS.

war,
@war@kbin.social avatar

Valve single-handedly resurrected the idea of Linux gaming and spent God knows how many millions of dollars making Linux a viable gaming platform after decades of everyone laughing at it and ignoring it. I think your pathetic fridge-magnet wisdom would be better suited for a context that isn't an article about Valve.

I was making a play at the title of this post, TBH.

Do you need a hug? It sounds like it.

Sanctus, w 295K Minecraft fans criticise lack of new content in Stop the Mob Vote petition
@Sanctus@lemmy.world avatar

They could add they Aether. I’m not going to lie though, the beauty of minecraft is not the content. Its the emergent systems from redstone and the like. Unless I am mistaken and Notch intended for people to make functioning RAM and computers inside minecraft.

kadu, w Super Mario Bros. Wonder feels like a modern Mario World
@kadu@lemmy.world avatar

I’m so happy they’re moving away from the “New Super Mario” formula.

Too bad they’re still going nuts on “everything is made out of plastic” look for the 2D games, but everything else is looking to be a major return to the World formula and that’s great

Minnels,

I like mario games but the “new super mario” games are just boring for me so I have high hopes of Wonder.

AlDente, w A heroic Starfield modder just straight-up deleted those repetitive temple 'puzzles' from the game

Huh, I haven’t come across a single one of these temples so far and I’m almost 90 hours in. I guess I need to give the main quest more attention.

Grumpy,

Truly living the sandbox dream there.

You need to visit temples to get powers. They’re like words of power in skyrim.

AlDente,

Are these powers worth prioritizing the main quest over whatever ADHD direction I head next?

Grumpy,

Easier to show than to explain.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=kEFpDoB15Lo

AlDente,

I’m not really looking for spoilers so I only took a quick glance, but it looks neat. I heard the main quest line wasn’t that long so I’ve been avoiding it; however, if there are that many powers to unlock, it can’t be too short. I’ll probably resume those quests tonight.

Grumpy,

They become semi-side quests once you reach a certain point in the main quest line. Technically, I think you only have to collect just one to three of them to finish the story. I’m not 100% sure though, I too have been too distracted by non-mainline quest thingies.

ElBarto,

I just did my first one after about 50 hours and I really hope there’s not many of them… I didn’t know what I was doing or if I was doing it right untill I passed it.

mindbleach, w Atari 2600+ interview: New games and lessons learned from the VCS

It’s not often that any video game company gets to turn 50

In no sense is this company 50 years old. Atari was cleaved in half by Warner 40 years ago. One half was purchased and used for branding, right before the new parent company also went out of business… five separate times. The other half did quite well in arcades until those stopped existing. The absolute latest you could say “Atari” lasted was 2003, when Midway Games West ceased operations.

Even the modern company calling itself Atari, formerly Infogrames, has been in and out of bankruptcy, and no longer owns most of the IPs either brand was known for. This company is that shambling wreck.

This brand is such an L factory that their bold new direction is re-releasing the machine that came in third place behind the NES, basically unmodified, and pretending it’s downright archaic 1970s hardware that was brought low by the technical demands of Pac-Man.

And it’s honestly a good idea.

I’m excited to see how it goes. More companies should do it. But acting like this is a victory lap for a titan of industry is a punchline in itself.

MomoTimeToDie,

It’s even funnier when you realize that arguably their biggest competitors back in the day, Nintendo and Sega, both have far better claims to being 50+ years old, with both having continuous operations since. Bonus points to Nintendo for being over 100 years old.

atlasraven31, w EA Games will Shut these Online Servers Down in 2023

Half-life 2? Did I read that right? Get your crowbar ready.

mojo, w Meta Quest 3 demand allegedly 5 million units below expected level

When’s the last time you heard the word metaverse? Love all the companies that tried to immediately follow, assuming it was going to be a thing. They’re probably on to AI now.

I_Comment_On_EVERYTHING, w Steam Programmer's Sale 2023

Oh no… The last thing my wallet needs is another steam sale.

Kinda looks cool though.

Pregnenolone, w Cyberpunk's storytelling makes Starfield seem ancient

Neither Cyberpunk nor Starfield are rushing to win any awards for their writing. I’m playing the expansion for Cyberpunk at the moment and it’s average at best.

tanpopopper, w Persona Collection Bundle Released on PS4, PS5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and Steam

No discount for already owned games on steam though… :(

MacAttak8,

Sounds like business as usual for Atlus

lupec,

It’s worse than that, you can’t even get it for yourself at all if you already own anything in there. Or at least I don’t seem able to do anything but get it as a gift.
Apparently the publisher can either set it up like that or have the usual partial discount you mentioned, and Atlus unsurprisingly chose the most infuriating option.

starman2112, w The Talos Principle 2 is the ideal blend of puzzle and story
@starman2112@sh.itjust.works avatar

I can’t wait to play it after someone has made a complete walkthrough so my tiny glassy brain can experience the story

crystalmerchant, w Ubisoft just added Denuvo to Assassins Creed Mirage via a day-1 patch a few minutes ago. AFTER all the major reviews went online.

Somebody ELI5 this for me

kale,

I’m not following closely and haven’t gamed on PC in a while but:

Denovo is a technology that is supposed to prevent copying games (DRM). Not sure what it’s current state is or might be mixing it up with other DRM, but DRM is known for causing headaches for paying customers. Using excessive system resources, refusal to launch for legitimate paying customers, spyware/excessive data collected and sent to a corporation, etc. In some games, volunteers will patch bugs out of a game, and this will cause the game to think it’s cracked and refuse to launch.

Some DRM is “phone home” and can’t be played offline, so people in remote areas can’t play. And sometimes the company doesn’t want to keep servers online when the game has been out for 10 years, so people that purchased the game can no longer play.

In this case, the company let reviewers rate the game and got the initial scores and sales, then pushed the unpopular DRM update. It’s scummy. If you’re using it, then use it. Don’t bait and switch.

Sprite, w Everybody Hates This YouTube Channel’s AI-Filtered Video Game Faces
@Sprite@lemmy.ml avatar

I’ve noticed AI tends to give everyone light blue eyes. Back when I used YouTube, I noticed people use AI to generate thumbnails and all people with brown eyes had blue eyes which confused me.

rikudou, w CD Projekt Doesn't Regret Making Cyberpunk 2077 First-Person, but Has Yet to Decide on Cyberpunk 2
@rikudou@lemmings.world avatar

They should regret. First-person RPG is like third-person shooter. It works, but it’s weird.

123,

Look at all these outfit customization options, ^which^ ^you^ ^wont^ ^see^ ^99%^ ^of^ ^the^ ^time.^

AnUnusualRelic,
@AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world avatar

How can you be a character when you’re seeing it from a distance?

First person is the only way to have immersion. At least let the players choose.

khornechips,

I respect your opinion, but I disagree. I much prefer an over the shoulder third person perspective to being a floating set of arms. Being able to see my character interact physically with the world and move around in it is more immersive to me, personally.
