relyn, w New Star Wars Jedi Game Is in the Works, Cal Kestis Voice Actor Reveals

I’m sure the PC version will run just as poorly as the first two games too…. Damn I wish they would slow down and revisit some of the core elements of the game like shader compilation stuttering and very jarring animations which both make the games feel so jerky.

Draedron, w Unity: An open letter to our community

WrittenWeird, (edited ) w Five Years After Launch, Sea of Thieves Is Finally Getting a Solo Mode - IGN

Restricted to High Seas:

  • Become Pirate Legend
  • Earn rep and gold for Athena’s Fortune and Reaper’s Bones
  • Hourglass Faction Battles
  • Captain your Own Ship
  • Sail as part of a Guild
  • Sail as Trading Company Emissary
  • Live Events

Safer Seas:

  • Progress up to Level 40
  • Gold and Rep at reduced rate
  • Seasonal Renown at same rate
  • All Tall Tales
  • Commendations, achievements, cosmetics yadda yadda…

Can anyone give a rough estimate of how much game content is in Safer Seas? Either a percentage of the full game, or number of hours? Also a bit concerned about the “Captain your own ship” bit…

@starman2112@sh.itjust.works avatar

Lame. They couldn’t just go for optional PvE servers, they have to lock most of the content in PvP servers. Guess I’m still not playing it

CancerMancer,

Yeah they’re going to do the absolute bare minimum they can to bring in pve players without actually giving them what they want as if this game isn’t dead af

mordack550,

The sad thing for us is that we always wanted to have a private server, not a solo mode. I want to mess around with my friends with multiple boats. I don’t care about playing in a galleon, let me play 4 solo sloops with my friends!

glitches_brew,

Kinda surprised safe mode has commendations… Sounds like getting the gold curse just got a lot easier.

Fraylor,

The challenge was never in the pvp. It was stomaching each of the tall tales that many fucking times.

Fraylor,

I have about 600 hours in SOT so I can answer this.

So honestly that’s a TON of progression without risk, but it’ll be slow going. Emissaries allow you to increase your rewards for a particular faction (reapers, hoarders, merchants, order of souls) so you can’t get those bonuses.

You need to be a pirate legend to captian a ship, and you need three of the primary factions at level 50 to become a pirate legend. Literally no difference beyond achievements and cosmetics. Captaincy just let’s you “own” the ship that spawns in, and essentially designates a player as “leader” whereas in normal play its ad hoc on who does what. And a captained ship just has a name and extra cosmetics anyway.

Can’t earn rep for reapers which kinda sucks, but makes sense. It’s the pvp faction. But many players do pve reapers as well.

I’d say safer seas covers about 75%.

merc,

Also a bit concerned about the “Captain your own ship” bit…

My guess is they mean that if you’re doing the Safer Seas stuff, you get a standard ship and you can customize how it looks (sails, cannons, etc.) from the NPCs in the harbour but you don’t get to name the ship, and any customizations you do aren’t saved for the next time.

If you do the High Seas, you can buy a ship, name it, and unlock lots of customizations (more than standard ones) which are saved with the ship, so they’re there next time you log in and select that ship.

I don’t know about the other current major advantage of a captained ship, which is currently being able to unload all your treasure and sell it extremely quickly. Without that you need to dock, then manually run all the skulls to the skull guys, all the trade goods to the trade guys, all the treasure to the treasure guys, etc.

CancerMancer, w Embracer says its ‘crazy’ outlay on platform fees exceeds its spend on game development

Epic Game Store is focused so hard on making it good for devs but they have also intentionally neutered it for gamers. Does it even run on Linux yet? We all know that’s the direction Valve is taking things and it’s why Microsoft is starting to panic.

amzd,

It kinda does? You have to use a third party app like lutris/heroic.

You could argue that steam doesn't fully work on linux either (multiple windows like chat, friendslist or library opened on the same workspace regularly crash on Wayland and I havent had the steam overlay working on any non linux native game) but these features arent even part of the epic launcher

sugar_in_your_tea,

Huh, I’ve never used chat, I rarely use the friends list, and I think I’ve intentionally used the overlay maybe a handful of times. So I don’t think that’s a big loss.

However, they did work fine on xorg (I haven’t used any of them since switching a few months ago).

Regardless, the launcher works for the primary use cases: buying, organizing, installing, and playing games. So I think that qualifies as supporting Linux, even if there are some bugs here and there.

HackerJoe,

Not from Epic, no. But there is Legendary github.com/derrod/legendary

It’s (relatively, don’t use the embedded browser) pure Python and runs anywhere. I also use it on my Win7 retro machine because the Epic Launcher sucks. It also supports epic DRM and can log the game in.

BudgetBandit, w I've tested Nvidia's latest ray tracing magic in Cyberpunk 2077 and it's a no-brainer: at worst it's just better-looking, at best it's that and a whole lot more performance

I read the title as „it does what it says and makes the game run better“ - am I wrong?

Delphia,

I read the article and thats pretty much the case.

Provided you buy Nvidia.

darkeox,

That's because they imply DLSS 3.5 usage. Which isn't too unfair but a bit misleading.

Oneeightnine, w Leaked Microsoft Documents Show the Xbox Series S Might Be More Popular Than You Think - IGN
!deleted4231 avatar

Is anyone surprised? I thought it was common knowledge that the S outsold the X by a pretty sizable margin?

TurnItOff_OnAgain, (edited )

The lower price, mixed with the fact that there was a very long stretch of time that you could get a series x probably contributed to that as well.

Oneeightnine,
!deleted4231 avatar

Microsoft pushing it as the affordable next-gen console didn’t hurt. I’m not sure how that decision will play out going forward for Microsoft, but it’s been a pretty effective strategy so far.

dudewitbow,

The only mistake imo Microsoft made with the S was not giving it the same ram as the x. Puts more work on devs to optimize vram assets when vram is the cheapest way to make any game look better to a dev.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

I know I only got it because I couldn’t get an SX and it’s my secondary console. I kinda regretted it, but it really doesn’t get a lot of use. And probably won’t until Fable comes out.

TurnItOff_OnAgain,

I’m enjoying it. I don’t have a TV that can take advantage of the X’s power, and I honestly don’t care about super high frame rate for ultra high quality graphics. Almost all the games I play are on Gamepass too, so not having a disc drive doesn’t bother me.

Plus it was given to me for free when a family member replaced it with an X.

Corkyskog,
@Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works avatar

I got a PS5 because it was either that or S in terms of availability, and at the time people only had guesses as to when the X would be available.

Pxtl, (edited ) w Seeking Constructive Dialogue on Mod Removals: Stereotyping Doesn't Help
@Pxtl@lemmy.ca avatar

There cannot and should not be balanced and open discussion on this issue. You cannot “polite” your way into finding a way to say that non-binary people are not legitimate.

This is paradox-of-tolerance stuff. Maintaining an inclusive community requires being intolerant of intolerance.

The existence of non-binary people does not hurt you.

Insisting on finding ways to deny that they exist hurts them.

So no, there will be no polite disagreement.

Fuck the chuds.

librechad, (edited )

While the concerns you’ve raised resonate with many, it’s worth remembering JFK’s words, ‘Too often we enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.’ As a society, we must consider the nuance that exists in any debate, even one as sensitive as this. Open discussion should serve as a mechanism to understand what defines intolerance and how to appropriately combat it, rather than shutting down dialogue altogether.

No, just shut up and go be a bigot somewhere else, fucking cockholster.

ChiefSinner, w A quarter of Starfield players couldn’t even be bothered to finish the first mission

People do play games offline. Personally, I don’t care about achievements. They mean nothing to me, except knowing that the game developer is tracking my play through, which I hate.

Cethin,

People play offline and they also mod games (especially Bethesda games and especially this one). In order to get achievements in Starfield you either need to play (mostly) vanilla or install an extra mod to re-enable them. This is a dumb article and should be downvoted. There are many reasons why the claim is likely wrong.

Nommer, w New Xbox controller with swappable battery spotted in huge Microsoft leak

Doesn’t fucking matter when they keep using cheap potentiometers in their joysticks making them only last 6-12 months before stick drift gets unbearable. It’s time they switch to hall effect sensors. I have a joystick from 2014 with hall effect and zero drifting. I have a king Kong 2 controller with hal effect sensors. Zero stick drift after nearly a year of rocket League abuse and zero drifting. I’ve gone through 2 Xbox elite controllers in 1.5 years. Get rid the trash components first.

smokeymcpott,

I’ve got a Rumble pad 2 from ~2005 with zero drift. Still works flawlessly.

I migrated my account ages ago, and I keep getting emails telling me to migrate anyway. These messages are sent to the Microsoft address I migrated to.

I contacted support, and they told me everything’s fine, my account is properly migrated, and that I should ignore these messages, since they’re probably attempts at phishing. (That look 100% legit, might I add. Nothing about these messages looks alarming or wrong in any way, which is what made me contact support in the first place.)

That microsoft account of mine never received any questionable messages before, so thanks for leaking my data to malicious actors, I guess.

ChicoSuave, w The ROG Ally gets a new Zen 4c chip and a worrying price tag

ASUS seems to think their ROG brand has a ravenous following that would ignore better hardware for brand loyalty. But the entire PC users segment they grab with their ROG label are also focused on performance using frames and milliseconds. Losing 2/3s of the power is like asking them to throw their money away. PC gamers will never be as brand loyal as they are performance loyal.

mindbleach,

Especially to Asus.
