At least Oblivion, unlike Skyrim, had actual classes (let's not talk about the leveling system, shall we?) and spell making. Plus some really, really good questlines (including the main quest, and the whole Shivering Isles expansion was rad AF). The cities also felt larger than in Skyrim and the Arcane University was an actual university, not a random village school with 3 students. Role-play wise Skyrim was the weakest of the three modern ES games.
A few years ago I replayed Oblivion for the first time since it came out. I played a pure spellcaster with no weapons or armor and it was a goddamn blast.
I would just sprint and jump around like a moron while invisible and ignore most threats. Threats I had to deal with got vaporized.
That's a little extreme, here at the fediverse we should strive to do better than reddit, so instead of asking them to delete their account, ask them to defederate. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
It can’t be remaked for many reasons. The best they can do is fund OpenMW or give up their assets. Actually making anything from it is not only rebuilding it, but solving many ways Morrowind is fucking broken.
That process is typically part of the class action suit/settlement. It often comes with a binding agreement that by participating you are waiving your right to seek compensatory damages individually.
Bethesdas remaster would probably be nothing more than a version with updated graphics and lighting and support for modern software. This guy is rebuilding the game from scratch in a modern engine.
Fun fact there were olny six years between Oblivion and Skyrims release. Thats right skyrim has been out longer than the release time between oblivion and skyrim.
Which is in itself a slightly updated version of Oblivions gamebryo, which was conceived in the 90s. Calling it a modern engine is extremely generous if not completely wrong.
These people are rebuilding the game from "scratch" in Skyrim's Creation Engine version, but it's still nothing more than a version with updated graphics and lightning. Bethesda's probably going to be using FO4 or Starfield's CE version, which will have the same result albeit shinier.
Do you understand how long that is 💀💀💀💀 Imagine starting a mario kart mod for the gba when it came out and mario kart 8 for the switch is ready before it, this is how long it took 💀💀💀💀
I get that, but the Oblivion and Skyrim engines are not compatible with one another. Meaning that every single little event in Oblivion has to be manually reimplemented in Skyrim's engine.
When you're talking about a game the size of Oblivion, that's a big fucking task. And they're relying on volunteers to get this done.
100 full time dedicated engineers and artists which probably the majority of them are veterans vs a mod teams team of part time students and professionals. I don’t know do the skull make you look more edgey?
Guy who replies to me just to insult me calls me 11 year old, the irony💀💀💀💀 and there was no analogy here, I was asked to read something " relevant " from Arnold, you have the english skills of an 11 year old as well, bro was projecting all along 💀💀💀💀
“Adult” triggered by literal emojis 💀💀💀💀 “youre 11 if youre using emojis” 💀💀💀💀 5th period starting soon buddy, time for your literature class, today youre learning about analogies, next week, irony💀💀💀💀
Ahhhh it’s weirdly beautiful mate. This whole exchange is like one big illustration on irony and (ironically) you end your point by illustrating just how little you understood my posts.
It really is satisfying. But if you want to teach me something and show me why it would be ironic to insult you in a post which was designed specifically to insult you then I’m all ears :) x
Paralympians asked to not compete vs modders asked to be faster there is no analogy here 💀💀💀💀 Or did you reduce both examples to getting criticized so you think it counts as analogy? truly 11 year old mind 💀💀💀💀
The analogy is that someone insulting people trying their hardest while doing nothing of importance themselves are worse than the supposed injustice they point out in the first place.
In this scenario, the volunteer modders are the paralympians, and you’re the douchebag criticising them for contributing something to the world despite having nothing productive to show themself.
“Their hardest” literally a hobby most likely not their hardest and it is a job for the paralympians, so not an analogy on both fronts, “nothing of importance” having a job to buy food and stay alive is more important than a videogame mod. Fake everything and you get an analogy, congrats.
Nooo its a hobby u cant type LMAO or I’ll compare you to disrespecting paralympians 💀💀💀💀 I literally predicted u would reduce both events to criticism, now I bothered to explain it too
It’s not simple criticism though is it mate? It’s criticising people who are contributing to the world while offering nothing yourself. That’s the whole point which has already been pretty clearly explained.
If we take it back to your original comment you’re literally criticising the amount of free work someone chooses to do. I’d hoped you might see the analogy but it seems like we’re past that point so let’s call it a day.
Good luck though mate, maybe think about it a bit more when you don’t feel like it’s a battle with an anonymous Internet person and can look more objectively at the points made :) x
Any examples of that or are you also 11 year old who replies just to insult? Another irony for you since you didnt give any examples and behave like the other guy
Ah dont call someone out when they fail to use their own terms properly while they have the audacity to call you 11 first, or youre like them. Good logic.
You know, it’s unhealthy to be so negative all the time. Not saying you should only post positive comments all the time, just keep it in check so Lemmy aren’t full of negative vibe.
Wait… that math does not possibly check out. In the worst case scenario (Steam), they pay 30% of the revenue from the game in platform fees. If they spend less than that for settlement, simple math tells us that there is at least 41% of the revenue basically unaccounted for.
There’s a bit of overhead in every company, like HR, IT and facilities, so maybe these don’t count for “development cost” (which makes no sense tbh, that’s not how project budgets work). Marketing can eat a ton of money, too, but the numbers still seem bafflingly high.
What? It just means that they spend less than 30% on development. That doesn’t sound too far off, as a lot of the money probably goes to marketing, management, administration or (gasp) profits.
Unless I live under a rock I don’t see the point of spending a lot on marketing ads for games. Two big examples of games that sold extremely well that I never saw an ad for were elden ring and boulders gate three. If you just make a good game word of mouth will tell how good the game is not an ad on TV.
It seems like it can make sense. Platform fees aren’t an initial outlay, they’re effectively a cut of profits based on sales.
For the sake of argument using fake numbers, if a studio spends $1m making a game, and then they put it on Steam and it does $10m in sales, then Steam’s cut of that at 30% will be $3m
So, spending more on store fees than development seems possible - especially if your game is selling really well
Takumi Shu… will you write another game? I’m begging. Ace Attorney 7. DGS3. Ghost Trick 2. New IP? Anything, I want it so bad.
I am partial to Apollo Justice, the first one on DS. I personally loved the storytelling and this ominous aura of mystery that begins in Case 1 and looms over the entire game. Also Trucy. It was also the first time I remember that I, as a kid, was challenged to think about why we believe certain things to be true. And it has a great soundtrack and art / character designs which on their own are enough for me to love a game to death.
I played the first one pretty much at launch and I finished and liked it a lot but the backtracking killed it for me. It was just way too much walking around ignoring mobs because I had fought them so many times every time I walked back to town. I know they fixed this somehow on later patches. Hope they bring along all the QOL updates the first one got.
I’m actually a fan of the game because I can see the vision they had. I think people are more harsh because they see how great it, “could have been”. But to this day so many weird bugs, qc issues that are not even graphics related. Basic qc like overlapping dialogue, mission problems, things disappearing, etc. I’m rooting for the team to keep up improvements. But for them to tell me I’d have a better time starting over is a little annoying. If this is so much better what was I playing before ? Sure, more money, feedback and most of all time is going to make a better game. But they know there are things they could have done better if they are suggesting starting over.
They are suggesting you start over so you can enjoy the rebalance of the game with the updates. They aren’t saying you have to, just that you’ll get the most out of it if you do.
Not very. Negotiating and executing a deal of that size and complexity cross cutting major national, cultural, and business universes would be extremely difficult
