Physics based Gladiator roguelike. Work your way up, start fighting with boards dressed in rags in city crossroads for the amusement of peasants, and end a God of Blood fighting in gold in the Coliseum!
Or die along the way. You’ll die a lot along the way :)
I recently booted up Half-Life 2 to replay it. I have played the absolute shit out of this game before, so 60% of it just feels like a drag to me now. It was such an amazing game but it’s sort of spoiled for me after I’ve played it too much....
Still playing Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines all these years later. Writing more than makes up for dated combat. Hoping the second one is decent.
In a clearly joking manner. Humor is dying slowly, killed by people who feel the need to rectally insert every statement they read, and I’m noticing it more and more on Lemmy. It’s saddening.
My takeaway is that it’s only original Rogue fans that care about the delineation of the terms. Is there a modern (i.e. post 2000s game) that matches the definition of a roguelike as given in the article?
Have you played the Multiverse mod? It’s the only mod I’ve tipped my toes into, there’s just so much content! My current run I started a few weeks ago on a Ghost Cruiser, and I just picked it back up and somehow now have a crew of full Mantis and no ghosts on node 4.
I recently played Alien Isolation, and I noticed all of the “hacking” she does on doors and computers are different types of games, like press the button at the right time, or match the images within a timer, etc....
FTL: Faster than Light. I just got it recently, and managed to beat the boss on all ships a few days ago. I’m now exploring the Multiverse mod, I don’t think I’ll be beating that for a long while.
After the closure of original developers Troika, a long-awaited sequel announcement, delays and layoffs at Hardsuit, a secret change of studio (which led to further layoffs at Hardsuit), preorder refunds and the belated reveal that a developer best known for (very good) non-combat narrative experiences would be taking the reins,...
TLDR: Dev is The Chinese Room, developer of Dear Esther and Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture. They still won’t say what happened with Hardsuit Labs, the OG dev, and the mechanics and system will be totally different.
Instead of a thin-blood (new, weak vampire), you’re an Elder (old, scary vampire) fresh from torpor (long VampNap).
I really hope they have Malkavian (clan of madmen and prophets) with unique content as a starting option, I would love to run through the game for the first time not 100% sure what’s real.
Fair enough, we won’t know until it drops! I just really really hope it’s going to be a worthy successor to VTM, and a studio that doesn’t have experience in one of the key parts I’m expecting doesn’t fill my doomer heart with hope.
