gramie, do games w Rock Band 4 to be delisted on tenth anniversary following the expiration of its licenses

For about 1 year my two sons and I played Rock Band, mostly The Beatles, everyday when they came home from school. At least an hour each day. We played other versions of Rock Band, but the Beatles was easily our favorite.

It directly led one of them to learn the piano and eventually get a master’s degree in composing, and the other to enjoy playing in bands and performing in musical theatre.

Too bad PS4 emulation isn’t quite there yet. You can, however, pirate the fuck out of the earlier games, DLC and all. Truly a better way to play, cause that DLC was hella expensive.

Rock Band 4 does get in-game now on ShadPS4, but it’s a long ways off from playable.

I have so many good memories of playing Rock Band in college. I just picked this up for PS4 for like $10, but it looks like the instruments are going to cost an arm and a leg…

Coldcell,

Just like being in a real rock band!

Man, this sucks. I haven’t played any games like this in a while (i legit have my guitar hero mounted on the wall) but it sucks to see something like this going away

umfk,

I’ve heard good things about YARG (yet another rhythm game). Basically an open source rock band clone on PC.

MufinMcFlufin,

There’s also Clone Hero

ozymandias117,

Frets on Fire is the one I knew of back when Guitar hero was at its peak

Damn I didn’t see this coming, hit unexpectedly hard. I just played through all the Ninja Gaiden games just recently as well as his Samurai Jack game and was so pumped for both his next project as well as NG4. He was a legendary character and whatever you think of him he was a colourful figure on the scene and will be missed for that if nothing else.

Japan has one of the longest average lifespans in the world. If their artists are clocking out in their 50s, they are literally being worked to DEATH!

mohab,

Reportedly, Itagaki was an alcoholic and chainsmoker. I don’t think he cared much to live long and, TBH, his games reflected it. I can’t think of anything more YOLO in gaming than that staircase fight in NGII. Man designed a fight to break the console and bragged about it.

“Dead” it is, I guess.

Controversial figure. IDK if I ever liked him, TBH. Even though he was cleared of the sexual harrasment charges, he still admitted to having an affair… and he gave us one of the best action games of all-time. Weird guy.

Hopefully, he’s at peace now and whoever was affected by his weird life decisions is at peace as well.

Now that he’s dead, will Team Ninja and Tecmo stop holding vanilla NGII hostage out of spite?

BreakerSwitch,

I strongly recall hearing he was leaving after Ninja Gaiden 2 and thinking “how much of a difference could one insane pervert make?” Then NG3 came out and felt like a mashy mess that never hooked me at all. Real shame he was doing such harm. RIP you insane pervert.

slaacaa, do games w Remedy CEO Tero Virtala steps down after nine years

Tero Virtala has stepped down as Remedy CEO with immediate effect. Virtala, who was appointed CEO in 2016, will continue to work for the developer for an “agreed transition period” while it begins the process of appointing a new leader.

Remedy co-founder and chief product officer Markus Mäki will take on the role of interim CEO, effective as of today (October 22). Mäki has been on the developer’s board of directors since 1995, and is also chairman of the board. As Mäki becomes interim CEO, Henri Österlund will take over Mäki’s previous role as chairman of the board. Österlund has been a board member since 2017.

“I want to thank Tero Virtala for his substantial contribution to the management of Remedy since 2016,” said Mäki. “I personally thank Tero for good cooperation and wish him all the best for the future.”

Last week, Remedy announced it would be adjusting its financial outlook for 2025 following “weak sales” of its first multiplayer title, FBC Firebreak. It recognised a non-cash impairment of €14.9 million, representing the game’s development costs alongside publishing and distribution rights.

Remedy previously forecast both its revenue and operating profit would increase from the previous year. It now estimates a decrease in operating profit as Firebreak did not meet “internal targets.”

Thats too bad But I kind of get it. I adored Alan wake and control but never played firebreak, was it any good?

False,

It seems to have gotten a pretty mediocre reception in a crowded market space prone to “winner takes all”, so flopped pretty hard

voracitude,

I got Control: Ultimate Edition for $4 on sale recently and was really surprised by how good it is. One of the few games I’ve stuck with right through to beating it, and the DLC too. I’ve been considering Firebreak but the backlog is long and money is a little tight for frivolous promises right now. Sounds like I should play Alan Wake, though!

Kyle_The_G,

Its a cool game and there is really nothing like it but I won’t lie I hate actually playing it, the controls and gameplay are just meh and some of the bosses are ridiculous but the setpieces and everything else was top tier.

Contramuffin,

I liked Control but Alan Wake was a sludge. Its age really shows. That being said, it wasn’t necessarily bad enough that I couldn’t tank through the game, but if Control were in lower A tier, Alan Wake would be upper C tier

garretble,

Yeah AW1 honestly isn’t that fun. I played about half of it and then just read the story and watched some videos about.

AW2, however, is excellent. Very very good. And I spent enough time with it to get the platinum trophy.

Between alan wake 2 barely breaking even and fbc firebreak flopping hard, I can see why they would change the CEO. hopefully this doesn’t compromise the actual games in the future to try and get more money

False,

I’m still hoping Alan Wake 2 will end up on Steam some day.

dukemirage,

or GOG

Damage,

Well if he’s the one who decided for epic exclusivity, yeah, otherwise no

teawrecks,

AW2 was incredible, but I knew it wouldn’t do well when I played it, because it’s too niche. I love the Weird Fiction universe they’re building, but it’s just not pulling the Resident Evil audience.

Firebreak I think was their attempt to monetize the IP, but oof, it’s just not fun. I feel like they could have gone more “friend slop” in tone and been much more successful. Imagine a game loop like Repo or Lethal Company, but set in the Oldest House, interacting with weird, goofy phenomena. Instead it’s a very dry shooting experience wrapped in a very dry upgrade system. I want to support them, but it feels like work to play this game…

QueenMidna,

Firebreak would have been just perfect for the Helldivers treatment

daggermoon,

Alan Wake 2 sold like shit because no physical release on launch for console and it’s still only available on Epic Games Store for PC. I refused to buy it until the physical release came out. Good game by the way.
