You probably owned 5 games that you personally were actually interested in.

Until 2024 I was still subbed to Amazon Prime. Their Prime Gaming (Shipping and the Twitch Prime sub were the draw I would never pay for Prime Gaming) campaign throws a fuck ton of games at you constantly. A lot of good games too. Keys for GOG/EGS,/their own launcher/some shitty pixel hunting adventure games website.

I also redeem the EGS weekly free game(s) most weeks. I miss a few.

There’s 500 games in my Heroic Games Launcher list combined. I’ve played 2 of them.

Saints Row's original design director is pitching a "grounded" 70s open world prequel with absolutely no dildobats (www.rockpapershotgun.com)

Original Saints Row design director Chris Stockman is talking to the hellgods at Embracer Group about making a prequel open world game, possibly set in 1977 and containing absolutely no dildo bats. This comes almost two decades after Stockman left Saints Row development studio Volition, and a couple of years after Embracer...

If the 70’s idea is more grounded with the apathetic humor mixed in like 2 then I’m mildly interested.

He’s referring to the first game though which really is a just okay when it came out budget GTA clone.

Linux gamers on Steam finally cross over the 3% mark (www.gamingonlinux.com)

Free Windows 10 support ended for most people this past month, and the trend line of Linux usage has been quite clear leading up to this, as people prepared for the inevitable. An increase in Linux usage is also correlated to a drop in Chinese players, which did happen this month a little bit, but Linux usage is also trending up...

It’s frustrating because kernel level doesn’t actually help. The cheats and cheaters can also do that and do! I soured on competitive multiplayer because it’s become impossible to ignore that every popular PvP game is infested eith cheaters and that anti cheat is the equivalent of the TSA at Airports but even less effective. It’s security theater.

The only real prevention is consoles in games without cross play and that haven’t been cracked/exploited yet. Even then there’s man…AI In The Middle external cheats now that record the display output and can aim bot with controller input splicing hardware. But that’s not as easy to set up so way less cheaters.

Except then you’re gaming on a console which usually aim bots for you anyways because joysticks are inaccurate crap. Labeled “aim assist.” Halo Infinite for example was so egregious you couldn’t compete with controller players because of aim assist vs mouse and keyboard. That’s built into the fucking game!

BurgerBaron,
@BurgerBaron@piefed.social avatar

It’s not like the official multiplayer servers are any good anyways.

With ALT:V sort of, the Steam forums say running the Windows version of Steam under WINE was the only way to get ALT:V to detect GTA 5 was installed, but compatibility wizards may know better ways to deal with prefixes.

I don’t miss the crab claw pain trying to play with anything in the DS form factor and that d-pad placement looks rancid.

Mina the Hollower has been delayed (www.yachtclubgames.com)

This week, our team made a tough decision: we decided to delay Mina the Hollower. The entire crew has been working tirelessly day and night to finish development for release on Oct 31st, but we’re just not quite there yet. This isn’t a major delay, it’s just a stretch of time to apply some final polish and balancing to...

BurgerBaron,

I’m looking forward to this one, but I’m in no rush. Limited selection isn’t a problem I have with indie releases.

BurgerBaron,
@BurgerBaron@piefed.social avatar

Nope higher. Especially if you enable ray tracing which was added.

IPC single thread performance matters most for Crysis because their complex AI especially is single threaded IIRC. Remastered didn’t do anything about that.

NFS Underground 1 is better than the sequel IMO. The open world is empty and tedious filler vs just loading directly into the tracks.

Best NFS on the PS2 is Hot Pursuit 2 however. Made by Black Box, it’s vastly superior in every way to the other console versions and the PC version made by a different company despite sharing assets.

BurgerBaron,
@BurgerBaron@piefed.social avatar

Not played by many because it’s one of the last releases on PS2, but if you like horror games then check out Rule of Rose. Up there for some of the best graphics on the console too.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rule_of_Rose

Others are suggesting Resident Evil Outbreak File 1 and 2. It’s much better played online with other people than AI. There’s fan server support: https://obsrv.org (you have to make an account to see the forum, sorry) and they have guides to set it up on PCSX2. I’d recommend learning how to install it to the virtual hard drive because the loading times are pretty awful otherwise and server hosts generally only make hard drive install only servers.

Their Discord community is a good way to find a group to play with, unless you have a few willing friends :)

DVD drive laser does. They’re replaceable however. I replaced mine once because I also used a Swap Magic case mod to play burned discs at the time which accelerates laser wear. Outdated method these days.

Most tech savvy users just soft mod and run games off a hard drive for the fat models or over network LAN for fat/slim. Storing the games on a PC or NAS instead.

PSBBN (PlayStation Broadband Navigator), is a newer alternative to the FreeMcBoot memory card mod for the PS2.

BurgerBaron,
@BurgerBaron@piefed.social avatar

Steam is also American, so I’m using GoG more now.

BurgerBaron,
@BurgerBaron@piefed.social avatar

It’s about doing the bare minimum and asking for $90.

BurgerBaron,
@BurgerBaron@piefed.social avatar

I do, it’s copy paste. A lot of the game is.

BurgerBaron,
@BurgerBaron@piefed.social avatar

It won’t be, they’re doing a good job diversifying.

Unlike Alberta run by even bigger dipshits.

Actually I’ll just leave it at this is both hideous and insulting.

PS4 severely disappointed me after PS3. The regression in GUI / OS multimedia features from XMB was one part of it. Charging to play online was another part of it.

When it came to games? Any exclusives it did have, besides souls games which I don’t like, ended up ported. Regretful purchase. What games were coming out came out slowly and the quirky/experimental games I loved were all but dead and gone from Sony Studios. Matters less to people who only play on console, but I PC game too. It became a useless brick.

I figured PS5 would be more of the same and stopped buying Sony hardware.

Nintendo with the Switch 2 I bet will be on a similar trajectory and already was getting there except for games with Switch 1. Donkey Kong Bananza is brainless, MK World is inferior to 8 Deluxe. They’re being weird about giving dev kits to developers.

I checked Robin’s site profile to make sure she wasn’t one of the people who thought Dragon Age Veilguard had good writing first thing. Nope that was Lauren, my bad.

Still doubt it but I’m hopeful now. I play all the higher rated low budget Choose Your Own Adventure text adventures/VN Masquerade games on Steam.

That said, I’ll find it pretty funny if the combat is truly as bad as it was in the first Bloodline game. I like Redemption best, and if I can get through that gameplay steamer I can get through this…probably not at launch price.

Day 426 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I've been playing

Today’s game is some more Mario Galaxy. I finished it up today after gathering the last few stars i need. The last few levels were hell, it felt like there was a sharp difficulty spike. Nonetheless i persevered. After this? I might try Sunshine. I could never get into it, but i want to give it a try again. If i go on to Galaxy...

BurgerBaron,
@BurgerBaron@piefed.social avatar

Personally I didn't like Galaxy 1 very much, but loved 2 as much as using a Wiimote allows. Came down to more level variety with better design and being more challenging I guess. Hard to remember, never replayed either game.

I can't stand Sunshine however. Multiple revisits trying to get into it, but it's just with how Mario controls. Very SSB Melee twitchy which I don't like.

Same look I use when a rock band "retires"

BurgerBaron,
@BurgerBaron@piefed.social avatar

Never liked this lumping of everyone into oversimplified "gamers" as if it's anything different besides conservatives who happen to play games.

It is always conservatives. In any hobby.

BurgerBaron,
@BurgerBaron@piefed.social avatar

Not gonna rank them because I can't.

Age of Empires II I've played since release and still do occasionally.

Everhood 1 everything about it I love. During covid things got very dark for me personally and this game just hit perfectly on some stuff plaguing my mind at the exact right time I most needed it. The devs were one hit wonders unfortunately. Coming from that, the sequel was atrocious.

Thief 2: The Metal Age. It's like crack to this brain of mine. Yes I play The Dark Mod too.

Runners up:

LISA: The Painful

Diddy Kong Racing

BurgerBaron,
@BurgerBaron@piefed.social avatar

I adored Disco Elysium while playing it, but the ending felt kinda rushed/soured for me so it didn't quite hit top 3. However, the book Sacred And Terrible Air by Robert Kurvitz that was fan translated to English semi recently helped a great deal with unanswered questions about the world the game takes place in that I had which really helped brighten my overall opinion of the game in retrospect.

The book isn't very approachable I think with almost zero exposition, so it actually helps to have played the game first.

BurgerBaron,
@BurgerBaron@piefed.social avatar

Aye and it helps the fans are so passionate making new maps to play for both Thief games and TDM.

DKR holds up so much better. It's just more* realised too. Way more stuff to do. MK64 is skeletal more like an arcade game really. Wish it'd get some reverse engineering love as much as I enjoy the fan made map packs for MK64.

With DKR once you get used to the car drifting camera movements, bunny hopping the hovercraft, letting go of the gas before hitting boosts, and learning the plane can also trigger ground boosts you'll feel like a god.

I see a lot of people shit on the hovercraft while I'm over here bunny hopping sharp corners jumping up to smash into walls on purpose like a psycho so I don't slow down ping ponging all over. It's such a joy.

BurgerBaron,
@BurgerBaron@piefed.social avatar

Wow they really went for the RCT look, even the logo. I uh, would've preferred a theme park game tbh...but I'll definitely play this.

BurgerBaron,
@BurgerBaron@piefed.social avatar

Parkitect is the most RCT-like modern entry and is also co-op. I bounce between these two.

Planet Coaster scenarios and park management suck and it still looks like RCT3.

BurgerBaron,
@BurgerBaron@piefed.social avatar

Paradise Lost DLC is really good too, came out 2015.

BurgerBaron,
@BurgerBaron@piefed.social avatar

Yeah that lack of transparency is a bummer. Might be worth private messaging some of the devs listed here to inquire.

BurgerBaron,
@BurgerBaron@piefed.social avatar

A loud minority.

This is on Visa/MasterCard. Nobody would've cared if they ignored them.

Basically I'm suggesting the credit corps are led by closet puritans anyways.

BurgerBaron,
@BurgerBaron@piefed.social avatar

I wish Nadeo was still independent. They finally got a popular Trackmania release but it's live service tied to UPlay ugh.

BurgerBaron,
@BurgerBaron@piefed.social avatar

Sauerbraten was really weird but I screwed around with it a lot as a kid.

BurgerBaron,
@BurgerBaron@piefed.social avatar

In his honor I shall replay Grezzo Due 2.

BurgerBaron,
@BurgerBaron@piefed.social avatar

I'm not really all that bothered. Unlike movies, new start ups for making games happen a lot. When the greedy giants topple, like a forest something grows in the new patch of sunlight.

BurgerBaron,
@BurgerBaron@piefed.social avatar

Given how Microsoft handled the Conker's Bad Furday remake I think you're not far off accusing them like that here.

BurgerBaron,
@BurgerBaron@piefed.social avatar

My completion rate is obviously much lower, but I've played at least two hours of 628/788 games in my 19 year old Steam account. I guess I'm a bit pickier with accepting freebies or buying on sales.

That is the result of a deliberate effort. Two year long project to play at least 2 hours of every game in my backlog minimum before I can uninstall it. Until there's nothing let but the dregs. A YouTuber inspired me, except he had a time limit deadline for the video.

Backlog was 258 games, now 160. Really there's about 30 left worth at least looking at. A lot of old crap from the very first Steam sale in there.

Most recent from the backlog was Alpha Protocol with some pcgamingwiki fixes. Yep that's been sitting in there a long long time. Loved it so much I finished it!

BurgerBaron,
@BurgerBaron@piefed.social avatar

Waiting for the inevitable opinion turn with Game Pass costing more year over year eventually. Not sure if what's left of Xbox brand survives that fall out.

BurgerBaron,
@BurgerBaron@piefed.social avatar

130k now with time left. I think we good.

BurgerBaron,
@BurgerBaron@piefed.social avatar

I can't think of a time it has gone well.
