GTA is a crime story video game. “Dishonest gambling” doesn’t mean “gambling I don’t like”. A science-based dragon MMO Kickstarter is a grift. GTA 6 is a video game.
Are you unaware that there’s a component of GTA 6 besides GTA online? Even in the online mode, they’re milking gamers for weak content using regular gambling. A grift would be like a carnival game that appears winnable but actually never is. For your gambling money, you do get “stuff” in GTA 6, even if you or I would consider it a poor value. I don’t know why a shitty online mode would make me want to play a good crime story single player mode less, but the mere existence of the single player mode easily makes it more than “just” that.
I just think that if you’re going to call something a grift, it should actually be one, because words have meaning. We can call it all sorts of other things. “Predatory” is a good one. I myself called it “shitty”. That’s not arguing in favor of a giant corporation. You can’t just pick your favorite negative descriptor when it doesn’t apply.
Honestly, I’m not. Rockstar has changed their formula very little since 2008. But I don’t exactly have a lot of options for crime stories anymore, and they’ve been telling good stories for just as long as they’ve had this format.
What makes you say that? What sort of things could they add that would make it better for you? I for one, would love the content that’s in GTA online to be available in singleplayer.
You called it something it wasn’t, either because you misunderstood the definition or willfully misrepresented it. That was the argument. The game can be criticized in all sorts of ways, but “grift” makes no sense here, assuming they’re doing what GTA V did and didn’t come up with some crazy new scheme that hasn’t been detailed yet. And even if the online mode was a deterrent to you, there’s a whole other part of the game above and beyond the online mode where you never have to even see that stuff that could make the game worth playing, meaning it wouldn’t be “just” a grift.
remember: people who have something to complain about will post much more frequently. since the fediverse is smaller, these types of comments are found more frequently
Don’t get it either, maybe it also something to do with lemmys demographic being older. ( I believe that is the case with Mastodon vs. Twitter ) Sure it is sad that the planed single-player content was scraped for multiplayer ( even though i had lots of fun with the multiplayer as well, at least in its early days. ) But why crying about VI when it hasnt been released yet? Just see when it comes out…
The multi-player maybe. But they’ve consistently delivered excellent single-player experiences with their flagship titles. GTA 3, VC, SA, IV, and V were all amazing. RDR1 was spectacular, and RDR2 may be the most impressive game I’ve ever played.
At this point, I trust Tockstar to deliver a good single-player game. I don’t really expect much in the way of the quality DLC we got with GTAIV and RDR, but I think the base game will easily be enough for me to justify a purchase.
I’m still gonna wait and see, of course. They’re not getting a pre-order out of me.
I’d agree with everything about the previous games. However, I think they made 10 billion dollars off of GTA online and wouldn’t be surprised if they focus more on that and leave the single player to the wayside.
I’d say it’s clickbait. The hardcore SC people act like other games don’t exist and won’t say a peep about them. Those of us that have sunk money into SC but play other games too will just play whatever suits us at the time. There is plenty to bitch about SC without comparisons to other games’ updates. When we do compare to other games it tends to be generalized like, “Online games have had working doors, elevators, and inventory since the 1990s.”
This is my birth month and I was looking forward to picking up this bundle for my birthday. But, I wasn't impressed with the selections here.
WWE2K25, the quality of the series has slipped, year after year. They are the only game series I know of, that can't even make hair graphics look good.
Destiny 2, this is just a glorified DLC/MTX-feely kind of package, for an otherwise FREE game.
Return to Monkey Island feels like a shallow cash-grab, I hate that art design.
Grapple Dog looks like just a cheapo game, not bundle-worthy.
Everything else doesn't appeal to me. Hell, there weren't even any games that both could benefit me or anyone I know that'd like a copy of. That is when I knew this bundle sucked. Ruined the birthmonth mood for me. Fucking IGN...
I could never get into the way it controls and looks. And I’m sure my feelings on warm climates & seasons like summer doesn’t help. I really want to like it though so I want to give it another try
Yeah man, treat it like it’s its own game, not a Mario game. It’s super frustrating at times but it’s very satisfying to complete. 😊 Just like the games of old! (And when I say old, I’m talking about 30–40 years old, not 15–25… 💀)
I never played Galaxy 2. I liked the first, but I actually preferred Sunshine. Galaxy just seemed smaller to me. I liked that it was different, and maybe part 2 would’ve improved on the engine, but I just thought the first was almost like a gimmick.
Sunshine was gimmicky too, but it felt more complete overall. But yeah, not sure 1+2 is worth $70. I get that Microsoft and Sony have other things to fall back on, but Nintendo is asking too much this time for 15-18 year old games. $50 is more like it.
Personally I didn't like Galaxy 1 very much, but loved 2 as much as using a Wiimote allows. Came down to more level variety with better design and being more challenging I guess. Hard to remember, never replayed either game.
I can't stand Sunshine however. Multiple revisits trying to get into it, but it's just with how Mario controls. Very SSB Melee twitchy which I don't like.
I played 2 with a friend a few years ago. 2 literally felt like more Galaxy. Which is great if you want more Galaxy, not so much if you want to try something a bit new
For curious reasons, they didn’t keep this loco in the main large museum in New Delhi; probably because it is not connected to active rail tracks. I took a couple of hours local train ride to see this in the small museum tucked there.
Laptop is a misnomer, especially gaming ones, because they get too hot to be in your lap. Workstations, notebooks, Ultrabooks, etc, all different classifications.
Upside, if you do use it on your lap, it doubles as birth control. (Joke, please do not do this).
they’re just the modern version of those old portable desktops, just with a battery so you don’t fly into a gamer rage when someone trips over the power cable.
I use CachyOS (Arch) and NixOS and haven't had any problems. Modding on NixOS is a bit more of a headache but it's not a deal breaker. Everything just works. Sure I can't play League or Valorant or EA multiplayer games but not like I was playing those anyways. IF you do enjoy those games then your linux gaming experience isn't going to be great.
As far as distros go? hell you can play on whatever one you want. Like I said I sometimes game on NixOS. I know a guy that even play games on Kali when he's not doing his pen testing stuff.
Even for older games with Emulation it's great. NixOS is my defacto remote emulation machine because it's so painfully easy to set up retroarch on it. Otherwise I have Ubuntu on my private server and I run RomM on it and it has all my roms on there.
Did I end up starting a new save in Stardew Valley for the umpteenth time? Yep.
I wrapped up Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown maybe a week ago and really enjoyed it, ending somewhere around 85% of completion and calling that good enough. Not sure why Stardew looked appealing but it did, I’m over the usual hurdle of Spring/early Summer Year One and just enjoying my time with it. I’ve already played for well over 500h across multiple saves and if hard pressed to pick one game as my favorite, it’s probably Stardew. This time around is a modded playthrough primarily on the Steam Deck/with a controller instead of a mouse and keyboard, so some mods are a bit clunkier than I’d like (renaming chests and chest groups is a real pain) and settling into the end of my first year now.
