MK8D would be perfect if only battle mode wasn’t such a mess. If they could just take MK64 battle mode and implement it exactly as is in MK8D, it would be perfection.
My brain says 8dx, wii and DD are all good enough that I don’t think I could pick between them. My heart says OG is the GOAT because it’s what I played the most and I still think it has the best battle mode.
Sort of, it’s got Moo Moo Meadows which is originally from the wii game I think. That’s also a great one, and the music really slaps, but the n64 tune has that sweet sweet banjo plucking. It always takes me back!
8 (DX but really my favorite parts of it were already on Wii U). 8’s tracks are incredible (not the booster packs one, those are a mixed bag and none really reach base game/Wii U dlc level).
Wii comes very close though. It’s the first to have good item balance IMO, it gets rid of the left-right bullshit to drift, and circuits are quite fun too. And some bikes are a blast, though to the point of being overpowered.
I just think of 8 as “we took everything good in Wii and made it a bit better”.
With the amount of 9s and 10s coming out, why would you waste time with a 7? The polarisation is just an effect of the language of clickbait spreading in society, but doesn’t change the fact that average games are probably not worth your time.
Because most reviewers will still have subjective biases, and what some people perceive as a 10 might be a 5 to others, and vice versa.
I personally try to avoid looking at ‘raw’ ratings when I’m trying to find new media.
Full reviews are better, because they’re able to express more nuance, and I’m able to decide if the parts they liked/disliked are things I care about.
