ech, do games w What are y'all buying on the steam sale?

It’s not on sale, but I had already decided to pick up Pacific Drive before I knew the sale was happening.

Also picked up Party Animals as a couch party game, and Outer Wilds as it’s been on my list for ages now.

AProfessional,

Pacific Drive is cool, I like the style and gameplay, but it feels very drawn out and repetitive.

echodot,

From watching other people play it, it seems like all you really do is drive from point a to point b while weird things happen. And occasionally random things break on your car.

Seems like an odd concept really.

ech,

Everything sounds boring if you describe it that simply.

While I generally just like survival and looting games, the setting and story are also quite interesting to me in Pacific Drive, and while I’ve only just started, the hazards are already becoming serious concerns in each level. I can’t say if it’s gonna be amazing or anything yet, but it’s been enjoyable so far.

If someone was into survival games much and liked the settings of games like Control, I’d figure it’d be worth a try.

Jubei_K_08,

Can you turn off motion blur? I watched a bit of it on YouTube and got motion sick.

ech,

You can! There’s actually quite a lot of adjustment options, which I always appreciate in a game.

Jubei_K_08,

Thanks bud!

ech,

I’ve only played it a bit so far, but it’s been enjoyable fwiw. I’m pretty into looters and survival games, though, so if that’s not your bag, I can see it seeming boring. I find arena pvp shooters repetitive, personally. Everyone’s got their own interests.

Favourite is probably Naughty Dog as it’s one of the few studios that keeps producing amazing games and is fairly consistent.

Most other studios drop the ball at some point.

dlpkl,

I can’t name a first party PlayStation studio that misses. They’re just so consistently great it blows my mind.

Coffee Stain Studios. In house, they’ve developed Goat Simulator and Satisfactory. They’ve also published Valhiem and Deep Rock Galactic.

simple,

I feel like the only one in the world that played and really liked Sanctum, the game they made before getting popular.

I’ll probably hear some shit for this one but recently it has been Capcom. They’ve been pumping out high quality games for the past 5 or 6 years and they’re showing no signs of slowing down. Monster Hunter World/Rise, DMC5, RE 2 Remake, RE 4 Remake, Street fighter 6.

Their RE engine is like magic and I’m pumped for MH Wilds and RE 5 Remake.

ech, do gaming w I hate the term "Boomer Shooter"

Sorry it bugs you, but it’s far better than the entirely uninteresting/unoriginal “Doom-like”. I get it’s standard practice at this point, but I’m happy whenever we get an actually interesting, poignant name.

So do I. But it is a term from Gen Z to piss off Gen X.

LZamperini,

Face value no one wants to be associated with the generation that destroyed the economy.

LoamImprovement, do gaming w What are some good PSP games?

I don’t know if I could call it good, exactly, but one unique concept that I haven’t really seen captured anywhere else was the Dungeon Maker series on PSP, that allowed you to build dungeons that you would then explore/fight/loot, to give yourself funds to build out further/deeper, ad infinitum. It was clunky, controlled pretty stiffly and basic as ARPGs go, and after a certain point you kind of went on autopilot, but there’s a certain je ne sais quoi to it that I really quite enjoyed, especially if you planned out your builds. I think a similar title was released on the DS but it was turn-based and not particularly well-executed.

Every PSP I own must have the following games ready to go at any time:
-Lumines
-Rock Band Unplugged
-Patapon 2
-WipEout Pulse
-Final Fantasy: Crystal Defenders (gorgeous small tower defense game, but with enough strategy behind it for hours of play)

sleepybisexual,

What are the others? What’s lumines?

sleepybisexual,

So a Tetris like puzzle game? Sounds nice

DarthYoshiBoy,
@DarthYoshiBoy@kbin.social avatar

It's a pretty great game. Really good music and one of those gameplay loops that is easy to pick up and difficult to master. If you like Tetris and the like, Lumines is worth your attention.

Megaman_EXE,

I’m not one for tetris like puzzle games, but I eventually got sucked in and spent 60 hours with the game. It’s really good!

It’s really about the music.

discostjohn, do gaming w What are some good PSP games?

The Parasite Eve game on the PSP was pretty good. Mega Man Maverick Hunter X and Mega Man Powered Up were both good too.

theskyisfalling, do gaming w What are some good PSP games?

I enjoyed Metal Gear Ac!d games which were a sort of card game / turn based spin off in the metal gear world.

I’m currently playing Persona 3 Portable so if you are into those kind of games it is pretty great.

I think someone else mentioned it but Valkyria Chronicles is worth checking out, another turn based delight.

sleepybisexual,

Persona is a series I’d like to get into, where do I start?

all-knight-party,
@all-knight-party@kbin.run avatar

Personally, if platform doesn't matter Id say 4 golden, 3 Reload, then 5 Royal. Purely from a mechanical and dungeon standpoint I think you will progress the most naturally from worst to best from there

4 Golden is now the oldest "modern" Persona game, I personally feel that 1 and 2 are just a little too old for you to get as much out of them as 3 forward, but that's my take, if you're very tolerant of older games you may wanna start older. Each entry has an independent story and characters, so I don't think that order matters as much as the progression of quality of life and dungeon mechanics.

theskyisfalling,

I haven’t played 1 or 2 personally but would echo what is being said here for the rest.

I played p4g first and fell in love with it. P3P is pretty similar really but with slightly less QoL things going on but I don’t find it too much of a downgrade to be honest.

Either way each one has its own story then with similarities like in spell names and the like, similar to how final fantasy is.

sleepybisexual,

K, so it’s a start anywhere series? That helps :3

all-knight-party,
@all-knight-party@kbin.run avatar

I'd say so, my order was 4, 5, 3, and I love it all the same

Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero?

It’s not amazing, but as far as side-scrolling platformers go, it was fairly compelling.

Also the PSP can play PS1 games, so you have access to a pretty big library of classics.

sleepybisexual,

Cool :3

Skua, do gaming w Weekly “What are you playing” Thread || Week of March 10th

I picked up Tunic after wanting it for quite some time. I'm enjoying it a great deal. I was sure that it couldn't possibly be that much like Dark Souls when it has that art style but, uhh, no, turns out it's the opening is basically exactly Dark Souls right down to being told to go ring two mysterious magic bells in opposite directions from where you currently are

fri,

I’m jealous! I wish I could play Tunic for the first time, again. Let us know what you think!

MufinMcFlufin, do games w Can we talk about FF7 - Rebirth?

It sounds like how you feel about Rebirth is pretty similar to how I felt about Remake having played the original several times. Not going to say you couldn’t or shouldn’t have enjoyed it, but there were a ton of story bits and minigames that frustrated the hell out of me.
