HumanPerson, do piracy w jellyfin with subtitles on Chromecast

I believe jellyfin has an option to ‘burn in’ subtitles so they are part of the video. I don’t know how this effects performance or anything but it should work for what you described. I believe you can turn it on through the admin web ui.

7h0m4s,

This is indeed the correct answer. It is under the transcoding options. Your server will essentially need to re-transcode the video on the fly to add in subtitles. Which requires a not insignificant amount of processing power.

I ran into this issue while running jellyfin on a raspberry pi.

So long as your server has hardware acceleration turned on. To allow jellyfin to use your GPU for transcoding. You should be fine.

theangriestbird, do gaming w Your Opinion on my Game Idea

I think your idea sounds neat! Have you ever played any Zachtronics games? Those games have kind of a “programmer” logic to them, and might be useful to you in getting ideas on how to dress up programming concepts as game mechanics. I could see Zachtronics fans really digging your game idea. One of their games, Exapunks, is literally about being hacker and doing actual (simplified) programming to beat levels. Another called Opus Magnum dresses up the concept as a “transmutation machine” that you must program to create alchemical creations.

SeaOfTranquility,
@SeaOfTranquility@beehaw.org avatar

I haven’t played any of these games before, but if a find enough time, I’ll look into them. Thanks for the suggestions!

teawrecks,

Zachtronics games are on another level, really. I think what sets them apart from “edutainment” games is that they’re not really made for someone to learn programming, they’re a labor of love for people who love to program. And as a result, they just happen to be the most attractive resource to learn programming that I’ve ever seen.

I think that’s a good lesson that all games that want to be educational should take away: don’t feel the need to force material down the player’s throat, instead make a game for someone who loves the subject matter, and the rest will take care of itself.

TechieDamien, do games w Game recommendation, looking for easier western 3D ARPG

I don’t really see how Elden Ring is a western, but I can recommend rdr2 or call of juarez gunslinger if you prefer something less serious.

Psyduck_world,

My bad, I don’t mean western as in gun slingers western, but western arpg like not Japanese arpg.

Carighan,
@Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

But Elden Ring is a japanese ARPG. That was what the jab was about I’d imagine.

Or do you mean you want an ARPG instead of a JRPG/CRPG, as in, manual combat instead of menu-based party combat?

Psyduck_world,

I don’t like emo main characters or waifu, so for example tales series or Final fantasy 7 remake would probably not work for me. I am not really familiar with the terminology, I thought those kind of games would be considered Jrpg/Japrg.

krdo,
@krdo@lmmy.net avatar

Well, Elden Ring isn’t a typical jrpg. It just happens to be developed by a Japanese developer. I guess it is its own genre by now.

Definitely Grim Fandango. First game to make me laugh out loud, personally it’s clever and witty, and I love it to bits.

    Totally agree with you. The hype cycle has killed a lot of interest in recently released titles for me as well, the first 2 weeks it’s the best thing ever, then the tide begins to turn.

    Also agree on the Steam point. I’ve been trying to check out more indie games on Steam since it’s maybe the only platform that has decent discovery for them now, outside of Itch. It’s also so hard for indies to get any traction with how journalism and marketing functions outside of paying for it in one way or another.

    Would you be interested in perspectives on it from developers themselves?

    Very interested in the topics you point out, I think for myself I’d cover them mostly in writing. There’s a larger amount of that style of content popping up these days, but largely in longer video essays that end up being released more sparsely. I used to turn to podcasts for this sort of coverage, but I’m not as aware of gaming podcasts right now.

    I’m favoring h265 10-bit for my library recently. Whether SDR or not, it seems to provide a slightly better compression ratio and fewer banding artifacts than 8-bit. Any player that can handle 4K streaming content can decode h265 10-bit, so there’s a ton of forward compatibility for the foreseeable future

    Rodrigo_de_Mendoza,

    So, any device that handles 4K should be able to handle H.265. Good informattion to know. Thanks for the input!

    ultratiem, do piracy w Is the TNT version of macpaw gemini safe?
    @ultratiem@lemmy.ca avatar

    No that website is not safe. TNT is fine but whatever people inject into their cracks beware. Make sure it’s a proper, unedited TNT release.

    Also, stop using that trash software. macOS doesn’t need to be “cleaned.”

    Wolverine6154,

    FMHY still lists cmacked as an option for Mac software. Why do you say it’s unsafe?

    Also how do you verify a TNT release is unedited?

    first_ad4972,

    If cmacked isn’t safe which website can I download Mac apps cracked by tnt? (Or other safe cracks)

    Mac serial junkies. Only trustworthy place that’s open for reg.

    They have a guide of sites to avoid. Cmacapps and Mac torrents are listed (among others).

    In fact, Mac torrents was where I was infected with something. Only time I’ve ever gotten a thing on Mac.

    Wolverine6154,

    Is Cmacapps the same as Cmacked? I’ve never had a problem when using Cmacked

    ChoKohii,
    @ChoKohii@reddthat.com avatar

    agree with you on that second point. i stopped using CleanMyMac after some scathing reviews about its functionality.

    honestly macOS is fine on its own to deal with stuff like this and cleaning, so third-party programs are kind of unnecessary. the only program i’m okay with nowadays is OnyX as it’s a nice toolbox for utilities

    BinarySystem, do gaming w The 8 hours escaping the Police Station in RE2 Remake are maybe the best 8 hours of gaming I've ever experienced
    @BinarySystem@partizle.com avatar

    It’s much older but the RE1 remake for GameCube has that same stressful (in a good way) gameplay you’re describing. Looks pretty good for how old it is too in my opinion. It’s the only RE game I’ve finished cause I’m a wimp 😅

    BinarySystem,
    @BinarySystem@partizle.com avatar

    Geez my first encounter startled me good. Very much a jump scare.

    Erdrick,

    RE2 on PSX was my first.
    I had two distinct feelings of extreme dread and true primal fear.
    One was the first sequence, attempting to maneuver through the burning zombies.
    The next was the morgue, even knowing as I walked in exactly what would happen.
    I’ve never since then felt such and emotion in life that compared.

    BinarySystem,
    @BinarySystem@partizle.com avatar

    I remember getting to the police station, exploring a little bit, and then immediately noping out of playing the game 😅

    Erdrick,

    Would that be the original or remake?
    Not that it really matters… they are BOTH pretty terrifying.

    BinarySystem,
    @BinarySystem@partizle.com avatar

    The original PS1 version. I’ve never played the remake but I really like the concept behind the tyrant. Ensuring I’ll never play it xD

    Sharpie, do gaming w Should I get Monster Train or Inscryption?

    Inscryption > monster train by a wide margin. Go into it as blind as possible. Don’t look anything up. It’s the most memorable deck builder that I’ve ever played. I wish I could erase the game from my mind so that I could experience all over again.

    Monster train was fun but I felt like there were runs that were pretty much unwinnable from the start due to RNG. Unlike Slay the Spire, some of the classes just didn’t feel viable. I only played it with the DLC enabled so I’m not entirely certain how the base game felt.

    TL;DR there’s absolutely no situation where I would ever pick Monster Train over Inscryption

    Judgement - this is basically just Yakuza Kiwami reskinned as a light detective game. I love the Yakuza games so I’m enjoying this. I wish the detective elements were a bit deeper, but they always do a great job stuffing the world with different weird side quests and characters.

    Stellaris (console edition) - first time playing. This is Civilization in space. There’s a learning curve of course, so I started out on easy. I like the bit of detail they add in descriptions of strange sci-fi events, although this probably gets repetitive after your first game. They did a great job with the controls for console. Overall I’m enjoying it but it’s very much like Civilization where AI civs hate you for no reason.

    Sea of Stars - this is good. I’m around 10-12 hrs in. The story picks up a lot after the dull intro thankfully. I’m slightly disappointed with the music. It’s fine, but none of the tracks are something I really want to listen to again. I’m impressed with the amount of detailed artwork and animation. I like the verticality of the world which adds interest to running around and provides good ways to hide secrets. The battle system is good. The only thing is I wish there was a bit more to the character customization. It’s pretty standard physical/magic attack and defense and there are very few armor and weapon choices so far. Overall, I’m enjoying it a lot.
