The first 4k video of gameplay I saw blew my mind lol. You can actually see depth and aren’t confused squinting at a low res model trying to figure out what you’re looking at from a small distance. I was shocked when we first played BOTW and it’s problems running properly (lots of lag for a game made for the system), this title made me realize the switch is just dead to me now.
In my experience it’s largely been unreal engine 5 games.
The issues with both Doom DA and Indiana Jones is that they have mandatory ray tracing that can’t be disabled. I generally think that ray tracing is a often a waste, it’s far too resource demanding, other lighting techniques can offer very similar visuals for a fraction of the cost.
There’s a line in New Colossus where he’s in the USA during a parade for the Nazis and everyone is cheering and he says something like “look at them, cheering for their own destruction” and I keep being reminded of it
I was literally googling earlier today to see if there were any updates on the next installment. Maybe it was subconsciously influenced by current events?
Not sure if they are on sale or not but a few staple RTS games that are definitely worth checking out imo:
Command and Conquer series
Age of Empires specifically 2 and 4
Supreme Commander (with the Forged Alliance expansion)
Probably way more, RTS isn’t a major staple of what I play but these titles are pretty diverse and will give a good taste of some of the genres best IMO. Of course Starcraft as well but I don’t think that’s on steam.
Being critical usually comes with reasons and not “it’s shit and everyone who likes it is dumb.” You’re not actually being critical. You’re just hating.
It’s hilarious and incredible how we still haven’t made a Metroidvania game that solidly and undeniably bests the game that added the -vania in the first place.
In 2005 I was playing Final Fantasy XI Online and met a group of 5 Japanese players in an expansion area. We wound up partying together for 8 hours straight. They all spoke English in chat for my sake, and we had an incredible rhythm together. We discussed new anime and a few English cartoons that had recently made it to Japan. We took a selfie together at the end of the 8 hours. It was the best gaming experience of my life. I’ll never forget it.
That entire game was just forever chasing the high you got from that one time you had a really good party. I’m already finding myself glossing over the fact that 99% of them were awful and you only settled for them because you didn’t want to wait around another 30 minutes for chance of a better one.
Red Dead Redemption, when crossing into Mexico for the first time and the sun starts setting and Far Away by Jose Gonzalez starts playing. That shit blew my mind.
Far Cry 2 brought me joy experiencing the open world format. I fell in love with the desert at night there and now I try to visit real life arid regions at night.
