Currently downloading The Witcher 3 for the first time. Got any advice for me? (lemmy.world) angielski

So I just read this book on history of games called “Blood, Sweat and Pixels” and was fascinated by the chapter on The Witcher 3 and mostly how the team put in so much thought and care in every single side quest. And seems that there are a lot of moral decision to be made on each adventure. So I finally decided to give it a...

I hope it’s not coming up soon as I haven’t made much progress!

The Steam page just says Windows. ProtonDB has no reports.

However, there is a demo, so maybe someone can try it.

Hmm I guess “cozy” games are a genre, but I kinda felt like they are games that make you feel cozy, fun without the stress. If a game sucks then I don’t know I’d consider it “cozy”.

I bought BG3 on GOG simply because it was on GOG, otherwise I would have waited a few years. I want to support AAA games being release on GOG at release because it doesn’t happen much. GOG isn’t gonna take over Steam, because largely the industry isn’t going to support DRM free AAA games.

Stardew Valley is casual, low stress, with heaps of content.

For quick few minutes I’ve recently been into Pirate Solitaire which is on F-Droid.

Is this any different from selling an account, which I presume you’re not allowed to do?

As another poster alluded to, digital goods aren’t really considered property in the traditional sense. Digital property is protected under copyright (and other IP laws). The owner could sell the game, but then they wouldn’t own it anymore (e.g. when one game studio buys another, they are buying the games as well). Instead, they grant a licence to use the game, which is how Steam works as well.

If Steam let you transfer your account to someone else (e.g. bequeath or sell it), then they would need this in the licence (which they could do in theory). Other than the logistics of that (especially how to handle people selling accounts - and the scammers that inevitably come with that), the AAA publishers are unlikely to agree to those terms. Ultimately the Steam licence is likely a compromise between Steam’s vision and all the AAA publishers that wouldn’t publish on Steam if they didn’t get the licence they wanted. A bit like how Netflix doesn’t really care if you use a VPN, they just have to enforce it so studios will let them use their content.

I like the whole series. Others are talking about 1 and 2, so I’ll add Half-Life Alyx. It’s a VR game, and at the time the PC VR scene was almost all indie games. I remember working out that if I wanted to carry more stuff I didn’t need to worry about only being allowed to hold two grenades, I could just pick up a bucket, fill it with grenades, and carry that around.

I also remember being able to pick up pens and draw on a whiteboard.

I’m not sure how it holds up these days, but at the time it was quite the experience.

I can’t imagine it being worth it for one game. The occulus quest headsets are probably the cheapest entry point, especially second hand, but you also get Facebook lock in, and they sell them at a loss so they can better show you ads and make more money. So I’d only go for the quest if you are desperate 😆. Objectively the Quest 3 may be a better headset than the Valve Index, but that’s because the Index is like 4 years old at this point. Many people still think the Index is better, but it depends what your priorities are.

A new Index is still like $999 all these years later. You might be able to get a used one cheaper, but probably not super cheap if it still works well.

VR arcades exist, so it might make sense to find one and play the game there if they have it! However, part of the appeal of Alyx is the use of the Index controllers (Knuckles) that have finger tracking fancy stuff. Arcades might be using the Vive Pro, so you’d have to check if they have Alyx and if they have an Index you can play it on.

I guess this also applies to getting a Quest. It will be fun but not the full experience, Alyx was designed for the Index.

Is Kerbal Space Program 2 worth playing for someone who had fun with but was bad at 1?

Reviews are - not good.

Dave,
@Dave@lemmy.nz avatar

Hmm maybe I’ll check on it in 5 years. Cos holly hell that price! Priced like a AAA game.

I played through DREDGE, which was a cool little indie game. I also played through the DLC The Pale Reach, which added another short side story.

If it was patented in 1998 then that patent expired in like 2005, right?

Dave,

Oh man, that thread on reddit I read years back was wrong!

Holy hell, I didn’t think it would ever happen! I wonder what new mechanics they can add that no one else has done.

For reference, World of Goo was released the year after the first ever iPhone. MySpace was the most popular social network at the time.

I remember it being awesome. Does it still hold up or is it showing it’s age?

I’m on the last level of Dishonored 2 (low chaos playthrough). It’s taken me a year to get here because I don’t have much free time and I get bored playinr the same game every time I get free time.

Dave,
@Dave@lemmy.nz avatar

Maybe, maybe not. But I think people expect a game made by Valve to run on gaming hardware made by Valve, even if it’s only for casual playing.

This game really was the buy of the century. It just keeps getting free updates. 8 player multiplayer sounds great but it seems a stretch to hope for couch coop for 8 players.

Dave,
@Dave@lemmy.nz avatar

Well me and my three kids play Stardew Valley. My wife and I take turns, but if we can see what’s happening on 5 player couch coop we would probably play it like that.

I got Minecraft for $10 during I think alpha. I downloaded the demo, spent several hours playing it, then bought it. As someone who never makes decisions that quickly it was a great impulse buy that I used for years.

Dave,
@Dave@lemmy.nz avatar

Who said we can’t have three or four games that were the buy of the century?

Dave,

I hope you’re seeding those hard to finds!

This is why they are hard to find! Where’s the dedication? 🙂

To a zoomer, based is the opposite of cringe (I’m told). This is the first time I’ve seen it mentioned in regards to alt-right, that sounds like they happened to be alt-right zoomers.
