LoamImprovement, do gaming w Bought my first Steam Deck after seeing the deep discounts on refurbs...what should i know as a first time Steam Deck/PC gamer?

I’m going to make a recommendation for pretty much all the metroidvanias, the deck was practically built for them. The Castlevania Advance collection has three great old games, including Aria of Sorrow, which was the progenitor of Bloodstained (which might honestly have a little too much going on - if you feel like you’d enjoy a simplified version of that, Aria is your game.)

But also do remember to pick up Hollow Knight. And Blasphemous. And if you’re emulating, Metroid fusion, Zero Mission, Metroid prime even, if you feel like frigging around with the GC emus.

Also, Soulslike games play particularly well on deck. I can get a pretty stable 30 out of Elden Ring, I’m sure the older titles work pretty well too.

I definitely am looking forward to doing a HK replay on the Deck. Super interested in getting into emulation too…but a bit nervous to dip my toes into it. Having never been a PC user I’m not super well versed in using them and installing extra stuff on devices like the Deck.

Also: Elden Ring is going to be my day one buy. Been waiting to play this one and can’t wait!

GT7 since some new updates came recently, AC Mirage (keep thinking I will pick it back up it but never do) and Super Mario Wonder

bridge_too_close, do games w What are some video games that had remarkably hectic public reaction at physical stores during release day?
@bridge_too_close@kbin.social avatar

I attended the Switch release at my local Best Buy. I decided to swing by after work on a whim (I work evenings) and managed to snag a sheet to reserve a copy. There were probably a few hundred people in line, but nothing crazy like the line wrapping around the store or anything.

olmec,

How do you have a line of a few hundred people, and have it not wrap around the store? That sounds like the real crazy part.

A large big-box store and the line wasn't single file. A lot of people were in small groups as well. I could be misremembering since it's been years, but there were maybe 2-300 people.

Adalast, do games w What are your go-to sources for game reviews and finding new games?

I’m usually putting on indie game reviewers on YouTube while I work for background noise. Have found many amazing games that way. I cannot recommend Retromation, Splattercat, Nilaus, and ImKibitz enough if you are into their game preferences. I also watch Olexa and Real Civil Engineer, but more for the laughs. They have good first looks though. Nilaus and ImKibitz are more automation and city-building games, Retromation and Olexa do a lot of rogue likes, and Splattercat is kinda a catch all.

For podcasts I highly recommend Into the Aether. They only bring games they like to the show and it’s a super chill and positive show that feels like chatting with friends who are really into vidya games. The episodes are quite long but great to listen to.

Let’s Game it Out.

If you can break a game as badly as he does and it still looks fun to play, it’s probably something I’m going to like.

I dont value reviews at all, I instead just look up streams / LPs of the games and decide if I want to play them after half an hour or so. Sometimes i’ll scrub through if its a slow start and not like a story-focused game.

I usually like to watch before you buy on YouTube . And see what moist critical has to say about it.

iheartneopets, do games w What are your go-to sources for game reviews and finding new games?

I like Adam Millard - Architect of Games, as well as Power Pak. Maybe it’s basic, but I actually find that Tomato on twitch has very similar tastes in indie games as me, so I tend to keep an eye on what he’s playing from time to time. I’ve picked up some great, recs that way. Splattercat, as well.

Interesting to see all replies! I’m curious to find new sources as well. I usually go through a set of bookmarks to sites such as eurogamer, kotaku, pcgamesN, ign (sorry for that), as well as checking reddit and lemmy.

ideonella, do gaming w V Rising Matka the Curse Weaver Difficulty

I did eventually kill Matka. I did it while frail and actually died at the end and had to run back to claim the v-blood. It took entirely too many tries over a number of hours. The only pointer I have for anyone else struggling is to analyze the fighting arena and utilize the extra space available to the west of the boss area. Two sets of trees in that direction make the arena seem much smaller. My game’s difficulty is just regular. Nothing additional, and nothing less.

Wimopy, do games w [Question] Were can i find a list of Safe Sites where buy Steam Games/Keys/Bundles??

isthereanydeal.com lists only legitimate retailers, no second hand/grey market sites. Not exclusively Steam though, so check on the site before purchasing (though usually every website will be selling Steam keys except like Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store, Ubisoft, EA Origin).

You can also link your Steam wishlist, set up alerts for when a game falls below a certain price, etc.

Mostly Cities Skylines 2. The performance is not great, but it’s passable with the settings turned down and the actual city building is really good. Right now I’m working on a big expansion to my city further down the highway, just got the water/power lines run between them so it’s one big happy grid exporting the extra to other cities. Already looking forward to the things I’ll do differently in my second city!

Also playing some Super Mario Wonder on the side, which is fantastic. Great mix of easy fun levels and hard-as-nails secret special levels. Very fun!

I played through NFS Heat which was more enjoyable than I had expected especially since I got it during the hefty 90% off sale recently.

Now I got a bit nostalgic and installed divine divinity again.
