toynbee,

Hey, just be happy you’re not in ICQ.

toynbee,

My parents used to feel the same way.

toynbee,

I’ve been curious about this recently after seeing all the reviews for MindsEye. I’d never heard of it until a few days ago, yet all the reviewers I pay attention to are talking about how it’s the worst game ever, while the footage they show makes it look fine. I haven’t played it, so I can’t disagree with them, but the vitriol for something that appears to be completely average is surprising.

toynbee,

I think the limited number of room transitions would stress me out, but I like the concept and love the punny name.

toynbee,

Is not every plumber technically a shit plumber?

toynbee,

This is basically LGR’s review summarized.

toynbee,

Yeah, sorry, I didn’t mean to accuse you of plagiarism or anything; I just found the comparison apt.

In case you find yourself interested, feel free to compare and contrast: youtu.be/imFr96t_XuA

toynbee,

No worries, sorry for being unclear.

IMHO he’s pretty good to watch. “LGR” stands for “lazy game reviews,” which I guess is how he started, but these days he mainly talks about retro hardware with an occasional game review (such as the one above). He gained popularity recently after being impacted by a weather event that unfortunately damaged a lot of rare hardware he was storing.

Hope you like him!

toynbee,

My pleasure!

toynbee,

To do so legally, you might have to negotiate with that one guy who wants to own every copy of .

toynbee,

Every time I see a post with this caption, the environment largely looks fine, but there are consistently two issues:

  • Poor seating (especially visible in this picture, where I didn’t notice a chair and sitting on a fixture would strain your back over time)
  • Neck strain (usually by having the TV sit on the floor, so you’d have to crane your neck to see it)
toynbee,

That’s the exact opposite of what NASA wants!

toynbee,

I tried this in the first place I lived at where I paid for my own internet, which was Comcast at the time.

They said (paraphrasing because it was a long time ago) their contract specified they were not responsible for any outages, nor any income lost due to same. I don’t know if that’s true, but I was young and naive and accepted it at face value.

toynbee,

This was back in 2006 or so. I don’t recall if 4G was around then, but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t available as an internet provider. If it was, I wasn’t aware.

I’m pretty happy with my current internet solution, but I’ll keep your suggestion in mind. Thank you!

toynbee,

Can you explain the Will Smith reference? I am unaware of any affiliation he has with Steam / Valve.

toynbee,

Oh, I see. Thank you for the information.

toynbee,

I don’t know anything about this game, but I’m tired of that one guy spamming it in the comments of RCE videos. The description makes it sound pretty cool despite that.

toynbee,

While I don’t disagree with anything you said, I think this comment descended into nihilism with alarming rapidity and I hope you’re okay.

toynbee,

My five year old would strongly disagree with you.

Though they would call it “Buzzy Butt.”

toynbee, (edited )

Is that both outgoing and incoming?

edit: diminished redundancy.

Day 142 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots (pixelfed.social) angielski

I had another day where i just kind of Wanted to take things easy, so i booted up minecraft Wii U edition after discovering i had a ROM backup on my external SSD. So i fired it up in Cemu along with the latest version and booted into a survival world how i would when i was younger. Easy mode, bonus chest, and the Gamma cranked...

toynbee,

Previously, I have not commented on your posts, but I appreciate them. You have your imitators and they have some good stuff, but so far as I can tell, you’re their progenitor. Thank you for your Lemmy contributions.

Obviously this comment doesn’t add much to the conversation, but it’s my 1337th comment, so I wanted it to be a joyful one … And currently every other post on my feed is depressing or at least highly contentious, so I would appreciate you for being the exception even if I didn’t enjoy your content.

toynbee,

My mind went to “we’re the Monkees,” but that’s a bit of a bastardization and also ages me somewhat. I’ll just pretend I’ve ever heard of Sseth. Yeah! References! And so on.

toynbee,

Hence the “bastardization” part.

Ubisoft is being sued over The Crew in a lawsuit that compares the server shutdown to a bumperless pinball machine (www.rockpapershotgun.com) angielski

“Imagine you buy a pinball machine, and years later, you enter your den to go play it, only to discover that all the paddles are missing, the pinball and bumpers are gone, and the monitor that proudly displayed your unassailable high score is removed”. As reported by Polygon, that’s an argument put forth by a new lawsuit...

toynbee,

First off, I support both this campaign and linking to it. More awareness is always good.

However, as Ross himself posted, the problem with this comparison is that the “Stop Killing Games” campaign is aiming to end the tradition of simply turning off game servers. This Californian lawsuit, though not a bad thing, is very likely to simply change the labeling of games, which doesn’t help the end goal of Stop Killing Games.

I want both to succeed and am not attempting to attack your post, just provide clarity.

For more context: youtu.be/sitLQg02Mn4

toynbee,

That seems like an optimistic but reasonable take.

toynbee,

What is MP in this context?

toynbee,

Thanks for the information! Or perhaps I should say merci.

toynbee,

I heard this story from a third party, so I can’t prove it’s true, but supposedly the head of IT security at a previous job met his wife when she compromised his home network to get his attention.

toynbee, (edited )

That’s not four grey controllers.

That’s one grey controller and three grey d-pads.

edit: That word shouldn’t have been plural.

PS5 Homescreen Now Replaces Unique Video Game Art With Annoying Ads You Can’t Turn Off (www.ign.com) angielski

Wow, this is awful. Some people reported that these ads are also very petty and not necessarily related to the game, like apparently Elden Ring shows an ad for a licensed mousepad when you hover over the game now…...

toynbee,

It’s been a year or two, but I had no issues with Star Citizen in Linux. IIRC, I ran it through Lutris.

toynbee,

On PC, I game exclusively with trackballs and have since the nineties. I’ve never not been given the side eye when someone found out that’s how I play.

When was this magical time during which they were popular?

toynbee,

Well, fair enough that you were exposed to them. I didn’t have a lot of friends, especially not those even remotely into any kind of tech, as a kid; I think I first heard of trackballs from a programming teacher in about 1996 and bought one to try out of curiosity. Ever since then I’ve used one whenever it was an option.

I’ve even mostly used the same model. If you look in my comment history, you can see I recently mentioned that most of what I use is Kensington Orbits. I’ve tried other models, but they don’t work for me.

The one PC gaming exception for me is Minecraft. In that game you have to right-click a lot (as I’m sure you know) and I guess I haven’t developed the muscles for that because it makes my wrist very tired very quickly. Still, I play a lot of FPS games and have no problem holding the right click for zoom and such; only quick, repetitive right-clicking causes problems for me.

edit: To address your original comment, I have one friend who uses a trackball at work but a regular mouse for anything else. Other than that, I rarely meet anyone who has even heard of them, let alone used them, let alone consistently done so.

toynbee,

The person perhaps (eventually) most qualified to answer this might be Graeldon, who is on a quest to play every Steam game in alphabetical order.

ryujin470, do gaming angielski

In your opinion, what games released in the 2020s decade (the current one) will be forgotten (i.e. no longer talked about, or known) 20 years from now?

toynbee,

I will never forget Astroneer, it’s amazing.

toynbee,

What if I massively overbuy both games and books without consistently consuming either?

toynbee,

Hah! I like that comparison, very apt.

I am married. My wife is concerned because I enjoy and own an unreasonable quantity of video games and books; and we have a toddler with a growing interest in both as well.

My wife says that our next house won’t have a library, it will just be built from books.

On the plus side, one of my favorite authors - Terry Pratchett - once said “I wouldn’t want to be friends with someone who has enough room for all of their books.” I would have liked to be friends with him.

toynbee, (edited )

You have convinced me to investigate The Thaumaturge.

Also … Excellent points, all.

toynbee,

FWIW, my understanding is that the owner of Epic is actively anti-Linux, so your third feature is a unlikely at best. The fourth was only remotely likely due to market share.

toynbee,
