Dark Souls, and other from soft souls likes (except Sekiro and Bloodborne).

You are encouraged to play cautiously and intently, otherwise you'll get slapped by concealed enemies, mobs with unexpected movesets, and being over aggressive and "greedy" during boss fights will end many an attempt. I love these games for that.

Is Assassin's creed shadows going to be some free to play bullshit or will I be able to just buy it?

I don’t really buy games much these days. I was trying to see what games would work on Mac and was pleased to see a new Assassin’s Creed game is coming out on Mac natively. I was pretty stoked with this news, I’ve never played any of the AC games but they’ve always looked good....

I'm a little behind, but I completed AC Odyssey and that was just buy it and that's it. They had a cash shop for armor sets but it was completely unnecessary and I never even looked at it much less bought anything from it. So provided the releases after that are the same it's a "there is an MTX shop but the game is balanced without it" situation

As a counter I find the fact that VNs sidestep having to describe all sorts of setting and character related things by just showing you them instead with beautiful art work and at times voice acting.

To me that actually increases the pace instead of slows it down, if you think about what you're not having to read. I do also dislike reading VNs at a computer, though, so I'll only get them on portable systems unless it's REALLY good, like Slay the Princess, and that game would simply not be the same if it were a book, it's extremely reliant on choice.

It depends on the VN and its implementation. The existence of things like Slay the Princess, 999, Raging Loop, Phoenix Wright, AI: The Somnium Files, these are all inextricably linked with player participation and choice, as well as very dense narrative.

Then you have ones like Steins;Gate that don't have very much choice at all, that's a lot closer to a book in most respects, but as a blanket VNs are, more often than not, absolutely games.

You are correct in some ways, such as dedicating all your senses while giving you less on average to engage them, but are also over generalizing by saying it's always terrible voice acting, which just isn't true, it can be anime hammy, but I happen to really love well done over the top anime voice acting, which is a whole different style compared to something extremely realistic like The Last of Us. And if you don't like that style, that's okay, but it's not terrible.

I feel like biggest representatives could go to things like Danganronpa, Phoenix Wright, or Persona, which all feature choice and gameplay, and I'd say Danganronpa and Persona have good voice acting, with Persona's as excellent. I feel like generalizing that fans of the genre don't care about choice is just not correct for all fans, I personally dislike most of the choiceless VNs because they then rely extremely hard on story, for example I disliked House in Fata Morgana because that's a "reading a linear book" style of VN with no voice acting, and it's really long, and the soundtrack was not super amazing (compared to Phoenix Wright, Danganronpa, and Persona, which have OUT FUCKING STANDING soundtracks, and with a manga you're not getting a soundtrack that emotionally engages you and brings you back to listen to them long after completing the games as I have with those series.

MECHANICAL/GAME STRUCTURE SPOILERS

Yeah, you would need to play it at least a couple "rounds" for it to really kick into full effect. It's a choice heavy game where most choices alter your route in ways that sort of become more and more unique the further you get, until it kicks you back to the start allowing you to make different choices, and the culmination of a few rounds results in a unique true end game.

The ways or fact that this is happening are not clear until you've gone through enough to start to see how what you do manipulates the world state, and the true story and meaning behind it all sort of slowly unfolds and even after completion requires some wonder and unpacking on the part of the player to fully enjoy.

I do find it a shame you didn't get hooked into it, it might just be one of those things where you have to come to it in just the right mood for it to really have full effect.

Oh I saw a video of this game and it looks really fun! It's basically Gmod Prop Hunt with added modes and mechanics, this genre is a little saturated which is probably why it's not got a lot of players for how cool it is. Hopefully that changes

It's not super common, but it's been around in an essentially free form through Garry's Mod for a very very long time, so most people have had their fill of it there or in modes within other games. Roblox also has one, even Call of Duty Cold War had a prop hunt mode, so it's a lot harder for paid standalone games to make a dent, but this one does a lot more than just strict prop hunt, I think it deserves more population

Playing on easy doesn't mean you don't want to play. Or at least, that's not my personal experience when I put games on easy, which is not always.

I'll throw out two examples. Age of Empires 2. I suck ass at real time strategy, so I put the bots on easiest. What this gives me is the experience and feeling of building up my faction, gathering resources, making upgrades, feeling later like those upgrades were smart (which I wouldn't get on harder difficulties as my actual poor choices would backfire and punish me), and then I get to conquer my enemies with my large army.

I still got to build something up from nothing, create a satisfying army, utilize what I made to conquer. I got something out of it that I wouldn't have if I played on normal. I would've struggled and likely lost. I might've just as likely actually risen above the challenge and came away with a more satisfying, but hard fought win, but I have challenging and hard fought wins at work every day. I don't need that in a genre I'm only a tourist in at home. I have Monster Hunter for that.

I put Gundam Breaker 4 on easy, the combat is satisfying on a surface level, but too precise and finicky as the challenge rises. I enjoy the combat still, on a smaller scale, but I moreso enjoy acquiring gear and making a Gundam that looks a certain way. The things I enjoy more about the game are facilitated by easier combat, I can get to those parts more easily, but still enjoy the combat.

That's a good example. You simply can't grasp optimal choices or know possible events and outcomes before going through it a great deal of times, and it's likely that you'll get killed too fast to experience much if you start on normal. You definitely end up switching to normal as you improve, learn, and unlock, but it really benefits and smoothens the learning curve to start easier.

Are you saying that phones have good backwards compatibility? I do still remember the big iOS cleansing of 32-bit games and apps alongside older Play Store apps being hidden from you due to being developed for "a previous version of android"

It's really the kind of game that either requires a significant in-game tutorial and very long ramp up (and you're right, even with all the info in the current tutorial it's not all inclusive) or it requires someone to bounce questions off of, which is the far superior way to learn, even though it's far less accessible.

Once you've learned it, though, I actually don't think it's all that complicated, it's just such its own beast that someone coming from nothing would have a hard time wrapping their head around the whole loop and all of the systems, but once you do one time it's like riding a bike.

The pause menu in Rise is if you press start, it's the bottom option on one of the menu tabs, it'll only show mid mission, so trying to find it in the village is pointless. But if you found a workaround that works too.

Also, yes, the free game breaking gear with no clear indicators is fucking stupid. I understand why it exists, but it trivializes the experience for so many new players due to the way its implemented that I think it should never have been created. I get wanting to get to end game fast if you've done it before, but the consequences are absurd.

I couldn't take this post seriously with how much subjective opinion is stated as fact. Fallout 4 is one of my favorite games, but that doesn't mean I'm blind to its faults and shortcomings. That being said, I can't read something that's claiming extremely broad negative things like Fallout 76 is still "broken" and only lives because of MTX" without acknowledging "why people are playing this and microtransacting if the game is broken and irredeemable?" And without defining what is broken and what is not.

I think Starfield was a wake up call for Bethesda. They need to heed it and keep up with the times, get back in touch with the simulational and unique things that they were known for and can still carve a niche out of, and not rest on their laurels as the rest of the gaming landscape innovates around them.

As soon as the unique and interesting mechanics and systems have been eclipsed by Bethesda's failure to make an exceedingly polished and innovative game, people stop justifying the jank and the public opinion falls off. Starfield is their last sign to turn the ship around.

Because you don't play it for a harsh challenge, the story is pretty decent, but I played it for worldbuilding, art style, ensemble cast, feeling of adventure and journey across a galaxy. That sort of broad feeling stuff.

I love this series. First played 4 Golden on the Vita, and it was really something that connected with me. I loved the combination slice of life and intriguing mystery, and the characters and voice acting really drew me in. It took me years to actually finish that game, and I'm about halfway through 3 Reload and 5 Royal as well.

However, biggest thing we need to mention here? The soundtracks. Holy fucking shit, these games have the best OSTs I ever damn heard, as someone who plays bass and loves acid jazz and other adjacent music every game hits the spot in different ways.

Voices of the Void a free (likely while it's in pre-alpha) light simulational game about receiving outer space signals and recording them to sell. You use the currency to clean up, upgrade, and decorate your small facility while moving around the Swiss forest valley you're in to repair and upkeep the satellite dishes that make the operation function.

It sounds very purely simulational, but there are a lot of secrets and interesting signals that are more than signals. It's also an Unreal engine game, but features a lot of Source engine love, for example the art style is reminiscent of Half-Life 1, all of the sound effects are EXTREMELY Source game nostalgic, and there's crouch jumping.

It depends. There are visual novels in which you can set them on auto and just let voice acting play out. I think there's strong similarities there, though I don't think anyone could get away with calling a Telltale style narrative game a visual novel, flat out.

But I do think they are doing similar things, they may scratch similar itches.

I would doubt you'd hit a progression dead end in that game. you'd have to be god cracked at it and enjoy it enough to play that much and milk what's already there, and at that point you'd probably want to buy the DLC to extend the variety and experience, because it's that good to begin with.

I started playing this game before there was DLC. You know what? It was fucking fun.

Definitely not trying to do that. To speak on the idea of visible, inaccessible DLC in a game, it is bad, full stop. I think it's certainly cynical of the developers to put the doors there and not completely remove them unless you have the DLC installed.

Seeing those seams is something you can't help but notice, and it absolutely does impact your perception of the game to have them there. What I am saying is that Dead Cells is so thoroughly well made and considered that I was able to tell myself "these doors are locked until I beat the game on a certain boss cell and feel justified to pay for an 'expansion' and access new content".

I can live with that specifically because the doors are not necessary, you just can't enter them and take a different path, similar to other locked zone doors that are instead locked because of boss cell requirements. The maps are also consistently laid out in terms of direction to get to a certain zone entrance, so once I know it's there I can avoid that path in the future until I decide to stop playing or buy more content.

If Dead Cells were a lesser game I would be much less forgiving about it, and to be clear, again, the fact that you can see DLC doors for DLC you don't have is bad design, full stop. It's just that the game is so good overall, I think it'd be sad for someone to pass it up for that reason, or to think that they're not getting enough because of it. It's a shame, but the game's still awesome.

I don't think you're wrong to feel the way you do, but try not to sleep on the game because of it. Even without the paid DLC the base game and free updates have a lot of mileage.

Dead Cells released in a state that felt pretty complete to me, so I just appreciate all the extra content, especially the free updates. It's a game that's so good I'm glad it got such loving support, because the core is so fantastic that I really did just want some more levels and items to increase replayability.

I think it's okay for it to end now. I'd also think it was okay if the devs kept going, but it's in a place where it's got enough content that it can end here and I'm okay with that.

Been playing Melvor Idle, really great one that replicates old school runescape's Skilling experience as an idle game. I also enjoy Impossible Dungeon quite a bit as well, top down auto dungeon crawler where you earn points to upgrade and customize a party for getting as far down a dungeon as you can and competing with other players in tournaments and dailies.

Nothing about Lemmy would suggest people would like Epic anymore than any other place on the internet. Their exclusivity deals have the potential to upset anybody regardless of what website they post on, so while there's absolutely a degree of hivemind hatred, it's rooted in understandable reasons.

That being said, it's disingenuous of that person to imply that Epic never gives any good reasons to use the platform, the biggest being the waves of free games they put on "sale" from time to time, though you could go down another rabbit hole of whether thats really something that would make gamers want to use the platform, or if it's just a nice bonus people pop in to claim while still spending their money on Steam when it comes to actual purchases.

The hilarious thing about My house.wad is that if you go in without knowing anything about it there's a relatively high chance you just complete the level normally and think "that's it? weird that had so much hype"

For me, Fallout 3's setting and atmosphere is more interesting to me. Plus nostalgia plays a much heavier aspect since it was my first Bethesda Fallout and the premise and mechanics of the world were more novel.

Gameplay wise 4 blows both of the others out of the water for me due to the addicting loop of collecting salvage and modifying equipment, along with the shooting finally becoming enjoyable in its own right.

The game didn’t sell well and many called it a Breath of the Wild rip-off, so this is understandable. However this means Ubisoft’s upcoming game lineup becoming less diverse, now it’s going to be even more Assassin’s Creed.

Such a shame, I would've been more interested in this game, but the similarities to both Breath of the Wild and AC Odyssey meant the itches it scratched were already taken care of for me, and partially by the same publisher, too.

PlayStation 5 Pro ‘Project Trinity’ Details And Release Date (keytogaming.com) angielski

PS5 Pro is expected late 2024, with the PS6 expected 2028. If Microsoft is to try to keep pace, as someone who doesn't have either console, it will be interesting to see if they also brand this as a mid-generation refresh or if they stick to their guns they've been touting for a while of being "beyond generations".

Vanquish, best "cover" shooter that I've ever played, really wish it'd get a Switch port and that Platinum would revisit it.

Sliding around on jets, going into slo mo to hit weak points, vaulting cover and initiating slomo, it's all so fucking fun and visceral.
