ipkpjersi,

My PS4 controller doesn’t even pair to my Linux desktop, I’ve tried just about everything you can think of but it only works via USB cable. My Xbox 360 controller, Xbox One X, and Xbox Series X controllers all work on Linux just fine and work better on Linux than they would on Windows thanks to xpadneo.

RuneScape is increasing their membership price by 50%, and Reddit is trying to censor it angielski

Runescape is jacking up their subscription prices next month, going from like 12 bucks to 14 bucks a month. The increases range from 20% to 56% in price depending on currency. Players are PISSED about it especially since the company got bought out by some investment firm earlier this year, and they see it as a shameless cash...

ipkpjersi,

OP said it’s 20% to 56% depending on currency.

ipkpjersi, (edited )

That’s 36% but I’m sure it’s higher in some other currencies. 50% would have to be 16.

edit: This is the worst comment I have ever left on this website. I’m leaving it up so people can see what happens when you do math early in the morning. Embrace it, learn from it, live with it.

ipkpjersi,

I shouldn’t do math right when I wake up.

ipkpjersi,

But there’s more than one currency.

ipkpjersi,

A live-action Halo that was proud to not follow the games was a terrible idea. They did not care at all about following the source material, they did not care about wanting to make something good for Halo fans. If it had been better executed it could have done well.

ipkpjersi,

Yep, these companies are so dumb, and then they go under. It’s impressive really. They just end up being out of a job and nothing to show for it.

Devs should not be "forced to run on a treadmill until their mental or physical health breaks", says publisher of Manor Lords, citing how gamers seem to be trained to expect endless content work now (www.eurogamer.net) angielski

This really does not sound healthy. The game is released, for a certain amount of money. If people don’t like what they get for their money, they simply should not buy it....

ipkpjersi,

A lot of gamers use the term “devs” colloquially when a lot of the blame for many of the evils of modern gaming should actually go to management and publishers.

ipkpjersi,

This is exactly what I’ve been doing recently. These older games are basically old enough to be considered abandonware/technologically obsolete.

If I can’t obtain it legally then I find it hard to be upset about obtaining it through other ways.

ipkpjersi,

Weirdly enough, I could never get my DS4/PS4 controller working on Linux, at least through Bluetooth. The device never shows up in the device list. My Xbox Series X and Xbox One X controllers work perfectly with Bluetooth thanks to xpadneo, and I can use my DS4/PS4 controller wired with or without ds4drv, but I just can’t get it to work wirelessly.

ipkpjersi,

I’m on Ubuntu 22.04, kernel 6.5.0-41-generic so it shouldn’t be that. Maybe my Bluetooth adapter isn’t that great but it’s a TP-Link UB400 so it’s not exactly a low quality Bluetooth adapter either.

ipkpjersi,

I actually have two PS4 controllers, one older one and one with the light bar. Both of them are unable to connect via Bluetooth.

I don’t have hid_sony or hid_playstation loaded, I tried manually loading them and I think that works but: i.imgur.com/VHbtW5l.png even though they show as loaded, I still experience the same problem: i.imgur.com/Z42WtKr.png I only have a bunch of unnamed devices when searching for new devices to connect to/pair with, and I can’t pair with any of them. My headphones and Xbox Series X controller work perfectly.

ipkpjersi,

They are both loaded because I tried manually loading just one, and then it didn’t help, so then I tried the other.

I can’t pair mine with my computer, it doesn’t even show up in the device list. The modules do not show up unless I manually load them.

I already have steam-devices installed.

I really don’t feel like I am doing anything wrong, but maybe I am.

ipkpjersi,

I just downloaded the entire GameCube library on my seedbox yesterday, SNES, NES, N64, etc are next.

ipkpjersi,

You can also get an Odin 2 for $299, that runs quite a bunch of Switch games plus every earlier generation of games too.

ipkpjersi,

Steam Deck and other handhelds like Lenovo Legion Go, ASUS ROG Ally (I know, their horrible customer support…), Odin 2, RG556, Retroid Pocket 4 Pro, etc make portable gaming better than ever tbh.

ipkpjersi,

But it’s just the playtest that is free, not the actual game itself? If they are giving the playtest AND the actual game for free then yeah that makes more sense, but otherwise I think it would likely be considered unconscionable for playtest access to mean they can’t criticize the full game they (eventually) paid for, and thus it would likely be unenforceable.

ipkpjersi,

Losing their jobs through no fault of their own, mind you. Disgusting behaviour by Take-Two just to line their shareholders pockets.

ipkpjersi,

What would it be called?

ipkpjersi,

does not suffer from desyncs

Not entirely true. IRC can have network splits (I believe they were referred to as netsplits if I remember correctly) where one network can drop out. You can notice this when you see like 50+ people leave a channel at the exact same time because the network they were on disconnected, it’s kind of interesting imo lol but also I’m a nerd so maybe that’s why I find it interesting.

There is one uncleared level remaining in Super Mario Maker, with 18 days to go before the servers shut down (www.issmmbeatenyet.com) angielski

UPDATE: Ahoyoo has confirmed that Trimming the Herbs was uploaded with TAS tools, meaning that The Last Dance was the final legitimate level all along! Congrats to kazeihinn on the Last First Clear! The journey continues in Super Mario Maker 2…...

ipkpjersi,

Many years back, I manually dumped thousands of Mario Maker 1 levels and uploaded them to the Internet. It’s sad that the servers will be shutting down, and I knew this would happen, which is why I did it even though it took a long time manually downloading them one-by-one and then copying them off of my softmodded Wii U. Still though, it was worth it, knowing the game will live on to some extent even after the servers are shut down.

ipkpjersi, (edited )

That’s a good idea tbh. I should probably do that.

edit: It has been done, it is done uploading, it also includes levels I obtained elsewhere from other downloads, I won’t link it here tho.

ipkpjersi,

Don’t forget private games, it’s a win-win because customers can buy games they don’t want to show to their friends and Valve get more money because they get more people buying those embarrassing awesome games.

ipkpjersi, (edited )

Modern hardware is wasted on modern devs. Can we send them back in time to learn how to optimize, and bring back the ones that knew how to properly utilize hardware?

I think a lot of the blame is erroneously placed on devs, or it’s used as a colloquialism. Anyone who has worked in a corporate environment as a developer knows that the developers are not the ones making the decisions. You really think that developers want to create a game that is bad, to have their name attached to something that is bad and to also know that they created something that is bad? No, developers want to make a good game, but time constraints and horrible management prioritizing the wrong things (mostly, microtransactions, monetizing the hell out of games, etc) results in bad games being created. Also, game development is more complex since games are more complex, hardware is more complex, and developers are expected to produce results in less time than ever before - it’s not exactly easy, either.

It’s an annoyance of mine and I’m sure you meant no harm by it, but as a developer (and as someone who has done game development on the side and knows a lot about the game development industry), it’s something that bothers me when people blame bad games solely on devs, and not on the management who made decisions which ended up with games in a bad state.

With that said, I agree with your sentiments about modern hardware not being able to take advantage of long-forgotten cool features like four-screen splitscreen, offline modes (mostly in online games), arcade modes, etc. I really wish these features were prioritized.

This is great news. This is probably one of the companies that most desperately needed a union. Sure, I was laid off due to (bragged about) nepotism at my last dev job, and maybe a union would have helped, but according to my lawyer they didn’t break any laws laying me off. I’m just glad I was able to bounce back and land on my feet in a higher paying job.

Even considering all of that, I find it hard to think of a company more desperately needing of a union than Activision/Blizzard.

ipkpjersi,

PMed you, hope you’re doing okay buddy. :)

ipkpjersi,

I got far less than that from my severance package last year, I got the minimum mandatory amount, but I’m not in USA.

ipkpjersi,

That’s the thing about Valve. They really know and do software as good as anyone else in the business.

ipkpjersi, (edited )

If support has been discontinued for GTA 5 and it no longer receives any updates then yes that’s likely.

edit: depending on what is actually included in the “full source code”, of course.

ipkpjersi,

Well, software is software after all :P

It all becomes 1s and 0s at the end of the day lol

ipkpjersi,

Threats are obviously not justifiable and are not okay but Nintendo has been earning a lot of badwill with gamers recently with their decisions to disallow small esport events. They have also aggressively copyright struck videos in the past that realistically just gave their awesome games free advertising but that’s not okay with them, etc

They seem to make a lot of really dumb business and especially community decisions despite making some incredible games. It’s not too surprising some people would feel burned with that.

ipkpjersi,

Yeah, layoffs will do that for you. It’s not the best way of increasing employee morale.

ipkpjersi,

I’m cautiously optimistic. I really hope this isn’t the first GTA game they ruin. I hate that they discarded the additions to GTA V’s single-player in exchange for GTA Online updates, I hope they won’t do that here, even though I did actually enjoy GTA Online too.

ipkpjersi,

They didn’t yet, but they could at any time. Enshitification is a real thing and it’s starting to become more widespread. I just have to hope that GTA 6 will be good. I think it probably will be.

ipkpjersi,

Actually no, I’d let the science speak for itself. Being outdoors with a mask on significantly reduces your chances of contracting COVID-19. Being in a crowded room with lots of other people significantly increases your risk. Gabe is right, just like any other CEO would be right if they said the same thing.

ipkpjersi,

I’m glad to hear they’re still working on it, they are one of the few companies I would actually trust to follow through with what they’re saying. It is in their best interest to deliver it so I’m sure they will.

ipkpjersi,

Ubisoft is pretty much the most evil gaming company so this is not surprising at all.

ipkpjersi, (edited )

What an incredibly kind move by the Terraria developers. This is part of why Terraria is awesome!

ipkpjersi,

I love how they keep saying they will have a final update, and then they just keep updating it regardless. It’s really impressive.

ipkpjersi, (edited )

It’s not corporate politics if it’s going to have an effect on the end users. You’d be surprised at how big of an impact this will have, if they don’t backpedal this and cancel it entirely, and even if they do it could still an impact.

ipkpjersi,

Except it becomes your problem if beer suddenly starts getting priced higher and higher and higher over time to the point where you can’t afford it anymore?

ipkpjersi,

That’s the horrible thing about online services. You never really own it, it can be taken away from you at any time. If you want to preserve something, you need physical and/or offline access.

ipkpjersi,

As long as you are very serious about your backup system, digital can outlast physical.

ipkpjersi,

Holy shit, I had no idea Lance Reddick died.

I enjoyed the story of HFW, I just dislike how empty the base felt after the end of the story in HFW.

ipkpjersi,

Not too surprising, everyone knew this was coming but it’s still good news.
