MaggiWuerze, do gaming w What are your experiences using Linux for gaming?
@MaggiWuerze@feddit.org avatar

As long as it is Steam it basically works seamlessly, unless it uses some weird ass DRM like Denuvo. Outside of that it basically depends on the game. Diablo 4 worked well, Anno 1800 or the new Anno 117 Demo did not (Denuvo, I think). Lutris helps witha lot of these but it’s still not sure

verdigris,

Denuvo is not a blocker for Linux, anti-cheat is the main one.

I won’t be buying BF6 unless they confirm weapons are locked to classes.

I’ve started this game twice. Once recently and once back when it came out. Still have not managed to finish. I always lose interest about half way.

When I think about why that is, I think it’s what you pointed out - the sailing gets monotonous fast.

Which is too bad cause I do think the game is otherwise very charming and fun.

wizardbeard,

In the bloom-ified remaster OP is playing, there is a double speed sail you can get, and once you get the bombs you can fight an optional mini-boss to get the abilty to warp.

Sailing is still monotonous though, if you aren’t in the mood to just vibe to the music.

They also streamlined the section of the game where you have to search high and low for triforce pieces. It was a hell of a slog in the original GC version.

@catalyst@lemmy.world avatar

Even with the warp ability it feels like you still have to do a fair amount of sailing because the warp locations are fairly spread out. I can see double speed helping considerably, though.

Thinking on in some more and I guess another problem with the sailing for me is how often I had to stop and play the wind requiem. It really makes navigation a chore. I could see a mod that lets you change the wind direction much more quickly would help tremendously (maybe there is one, I have not looked).

wizardbeard,

The faster sail and having the wind automatically change to be the direction you’re sailing are both features I’ve seen people use with randomizer mods for the GC version, but I don’t know if they’re available without randomizing treasures.

turkalino,

Huge Zelda fan here, I’ve beaten every mainline game at least once. Wind Waker is by far my least favorite, so I don’t blame you

MyNameIsAtticus,

It took me a while to get into finishing it too. I’ve started it a decent number of times and it took it being like the only game I had access to for me to finally sit down and play it

daggermoon, do games w Can an American explain to me what's with the grooves on PS1 NTSC cases?

Is this because everything in america has to be bigger?

You’re thinking of Texas.

eru777,

For many foreigners, Texas is America lol

The only game i preordered in my life was TOTK (physical ofc) and that only 1 month before release.

Normaly i don’t only view the reviews, but i play a lengthy demo (legal or illegal) before i purchase something nowadays.

Asswardbackaddict, do gaming w Friendly Reminder

Didn’t pre order or anything, but I’m pretty bitter that I got excited for Tales of the Shire. I expected Stardew Valley with hobbits.

DamienGramatacus, do games w What game sequel ruined a beloved franchise or character for you?

A future prediction as I won’t be buying it - Subnautica 2.

Don't use best coding practices, do not make readable code following good naming/formatting standards, have it only make sense for you in the moment and require weeks to debug even by you

Gelik,

You get it!

danciestlobster, do gaming w What video games are you playing? What have you finished recently? What do you plan to play? - Video Game Discussion Thread #30

Like so many others I finished expedition 33 most recently and it was fantastic for anyone who enjoys story heavy RPGs. I also finished citizen sleeper shortly before that and the last dlc of not for broadcast, also both amazing. Now I am on to palworld, I am judging this to be the right intersection of good features added but no major losses from the ongoing lawsuit yet. Time will tell if that’s a good estimate.

I have loved Nintendo games for a long time but after their behavior lately I am disinclined to support them anymore, and the original switch will likely be my last Nintendo console.

I can be cynical about the game industry at times but the reality is this year we got a lot of great games from smaller studios and it’s a trend that seems like it will continue. With kkd2, expedition 33, and that new survival craft that just came out 2025 is a good year for games as far as I am concerned

Unless you buy from Humble. I'm reading they're constantly running out of keys.

Mesophar,

That is slightly different, and those are usually (heavily) discounted prices and not available at launch of a game.

I hope you have a rom where the elevator in the tower of the gods works…imagine getting 80% through the game and then an elevator doesn’t work, and you can’t finish the game…

Oh god, is that an issue with ROMs for the HD edition? I hope so too, hopefully I can just swap save files over to a functional ROM. And if all else fails I can just say it ended there since it would be my second play through

SkunkWorkz, (edited ) do games w How do gameplay youtuber develop interesting commentary?

You can also do it like Dunkey does. Just record gameplay first, edit it to make an interesting or funny video and then later add the commentary and act like it’s given live during the moment. It’s easier to do if you aren’t used to giving off the cuff commentary during a live let’s play video. And you don’t have to be a live streamer to be a gaming YouTuber.

Maybe just focus on creating short videos first so you learn how to edit, give commentary and create little stories (yes even Let’s Play videos need to have some sort of “story” and theme). Remember the first dozens of videos will suck. Don’t focus on viewership or subs focus on honing the craft first. You also need to figure out your unique selling point, the thing people watch your videos for instead of the millions of other gameplay videos, and you will only figure that out if you start making videos.

Joelk111, do games w How do gameplay youtuber develop interesting commentary?

I’d second the fact that it’s really difficult to do it, and that you genuinely need to enjoy the process. More likely than not, you won’t “make it” and you’ll just be doing it as a hobby. Though, more than anything, you just need to do it. You might not know what to say today, tomorrow, or next month, but eventually you’ll find a rhythm and know what works for you. There’s no way to find that rhythm if you aren’t making anything.

My source for this is the fact that I’ve been doing YouTube for nearly 2 years now, creating weekly videos. I think they’ve been of pretty good quality for about 14 or so months now. I have just over 500 subs which, while I’m super proud of and thankful for that, isn’t even enough to enable ads on my channel. I also specifically chose a niche that’s a tad easier to stand out in, as the market for gaming videos is so so so saturated and difficult to stand out in, as the barrier for entry is so low.

I don’t mean to discourage, and of course wish you the best of luck, but I do want to share a realistic view on it based on my experiences being a small potato YouTube creator.

RightHandOfIkaros, do games w How do gameplay youtuber develop interesting commentary?

Considering how many gaming YouTube content creators have been exposed for sexually grooming and abusing minors, my advise would be to dream something else. Anything else, really.

Also, thats a flooded market. Difficult to stand out. If you just be yourself then you will have a small following, most likely too small for it to support yourself on as your only source of income.

psx_crab, do gaming w I would never be proud of letting the game aim for me

Is gyro aiming cheating?

SalamenceFury,
@SalamenceFury@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t consider it to be, in fact I wish it was the default for FPS games. I just hate that a lot of the stuff that is supposed to be used by noobs for accessibility gets immediately taken by omegasweats to pubstomp even harder.

TrustedTyrant,

It depends but it can be. On PC you can just map it to kbm and not get aim assist so it’s not. On console games that don’t support it natively using something to get gyro aiming would be because of aim assist or in sieges case the lack of it.
