Five years and I still don't have a VR headset lol. These things are enthusiast tech and I am not that enthusiastic about having one.

Half-Life Alyx wasn't called Half-Life 3 because it came out on a platform most people don't have/can't afford. It's essentially a really cool spin-off that I will never play.

Cool that you liked it though, love that for you.

chronicledmonocle,

Spoilers, but the ending of the game greatly affects the Half Life story. It’s not just a spin off.

Duamerthrax,

Yeah. It reads like fan fiction. Marc Laidlaw wasn’t involved. Hell, they didn’t ask Merle Dandridge to reprise her role.

It also doesn’t effect the story if there’s no more story. I’ll stick to the fan made spinoffs.

chronicledmonocle,

Everybody is entitled to their opinion.

Sibyls,

I’m confused though. The platform is the same cost as a gaming console if not cheaper? You can buy a quest3 at a good price.

If you already have a (lower midrange) PC, then yes.

MolecularCactus1324,

I managed to scoop one up for $100.

It is such a beautiful game. One of my top gaming experiences.

The environments, the pacing, the story telling, the interactivity - just excellent.

If you are interested in playing it and you don’t have a PC with a 1060 or better; or can’t afford PSVR2 or Quest 3s, then consider giving it a go at a VR game cafe.

All o remember from far cry 3 is that the bow is super fun to use. I don’t think i used the other weapons at all.

What’s the status of VR games on Linux? With headsets that don’t require weird accounts (Meta)

antithetical,

As I mentioned in another comment it plays quite well. At least with the Steam Index that I use. Most games seem to work out of the box. One thing that isn’t currently implemented is BT communication with the lighthouses which is a bit annoying but there are other apps and tools to workaround that.

chronicledmonocle,

If you have a Quest headset, ALVR allows you to stream SteamVR to it.

I believe the Valve Index allows for Linux usage, but I’ve never owned one.

Seems like WiVRn is also a good solution these days, just tried it out for the first time a few hours ago and I’m very impressed.

chronicledmonocle,

Wow never heard of this application. I’ll have to give it a try.

Infinite is no perfect game, but to me it felt like a great foundation for a game. I liked the open world aspect a lot, but it needed at least double the content in my opinion.

Stalinwolf,
@Stalinwolf@lemmy.ca avatar

I remember at least liking it a fair bit because it played a lot like Halo 1. I was a huge fan of the original and never cared as much for the sequels. I remember all of my friends got really into ODST, and I hated the direction it had taken the gameplay. So when Reach came out and felt comfortable in my hands again, I was stoked.

MyNameIsAtticus,
@MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world avatar

Definitely. For a base, it’s amazing. It needs some balancing imo, and like you said, some more content. My friend I play with was commenting that he wishes there were more biomes, which is definitely something I agree with. The generic “grassy hills” thing definitely gets boring to look at after a bit.

moncharleskey,

Yeah, that would have been great to have a tundra and jungle biome. Spawning patrol groups would have been cool, and having to defend FOBs periodically from attack or risk losing them. Ah, what could have been.

Well, I got it with my Valve Index but have not played it yet. I feel bad. Just flying around in MSFS 2020 lol

ygurin, do gaming w Tetris

You can finish the game by hitting a memory overflow bug very far in the game under specific conditions. Just look up finishing Tetris…

null,

In the NES version, yeah

YiddishMcSquidish,

Yeah people act like the grand master edition doesn’t have a following or a credits bonus level.

tatann, do games w One-handed games?

Have they tried narrative games like the ones from Telltale, Dontnod, … ?

disposabletentacle, do games w One-handed games?

I don’t understand. You have two friends, each with a good arm, that’s two good arms. Tape your friends together and have them coordinate and BAM: two-handed gaming.

Socket462,

That sounds like a good plot for an episode in a tv show. I sense potential here. Haha

Regrettable_incident,
@Regrettable_incident@lemmy.world avatar

Tape will come off when they sweat, better sew them together. And trim off those unnecessary arms, it’s just efficiency.

frigidaphelion,

🚨👮‍♂️🚨yes officer it’s this person right here

atomicorange,

Thank you citizen, you’re right! He’s got management written all over him!

nogooduser,

And they can play Brothers A Tale Of Two Sons.

helix,

sadly they live 80km apart from each other, and both are right handed, so they couldn’t face each other while playing. We’d need a pretty weird dual-monitor setup if we’d tape them together.

ddash,

All I’m hearing is excuses over excuses!

glitches_brew,

They could easily solve the double right handed problem by sewing one to the other upside down.

oxideseven,

My SO and I died this during a stream once. I don’t know why lol.

We played Hades. I was right, she was left. It started as a joke but we actually made it decently far lol.

XCom and XCom 2 can be played entirely with the mouse. Minor typing if you want to name your soldiers, but nothing requires quick reflexes. Everything is turn based.

There’s an older breakout style game on steam called Shatter that can be played entirely with the mouse and has a banger soundtrack and neat visual style.

Emulation opens up a lot of options for old school turn based games. RPGs, turn based strategy. Any of the Pokemon games gen 1-3 can be played one handed with some clever button mapping. Any game made to use just the Wii-mote as a pointer would also work, but I don’t know those off the top of my head.

You might want to look into one handed controllers, or something like the FLIR USB dongle that you can use to map IR TV remote signals to keyboard button presses. Just need to use a remote that doesn’t already control something.

makeshiftreaper, do games w One-handed games?

The Final Fantasy pixel remasters are all old school turn based RPGs that can be played one handed on the steam deck. Certainly not all 50 games but UFO 50 has a bunch of games made for a non-existent console that are all pretty simple and I would bet a lot of them can be played one handed. Both Crypt of the Necrodancer and Cadence of Hyrule are rhythm dungeon delver games that probably work one handed too, technically so would the new game Rift of the Necrodancer but that requires more skill than I have

Oh, and for the RPG fan Disco Elysium is almost certainly up his alley and perfect for one handed play
