This one was much better than the sequels and I think it was because in the sequels I found Lara unbearable. In this one she was scrappy and there was lighthearted chitchat to just make everyone feel a bit human. In the sequels everything was just so melodramatic and it all took itself way too seriously, especially considering how silly the stories were.

klisurovi4,

The sequels also got way too bloated imo. If i wanted to collect 50 feathers or whatever I’ll go play a Ubisoft game.

I can’t really say exactly what made the 2013 reboot special but it felt unique. Its sequels feel like any other open world game these days.

Broken,

Absolutely. And particularly it was is “batches” especially as you get to Shadow.

Collecting stuff as you go along playing is fine (I mean, I’d argue not because it’s lazy game making but its normal). But going along and hitting a village that has 50 side quests in it just interrupts flow.

Plus, they made nested fetch quests so I felt trapped in a loop. OK I’ll just do this one quest…“hey, now that I see that you are good at fetching arbitrary items, I want you to go get this for me too”

thingsiplay,

I enjoyed the first Tomb Raider of the reboot series shockingly more than I thought I would. A few years later then played the sequel and wrote a big letter of complains in a review. Maybe I was a bit overly negative because of some frustrations, but overall it was boring, bloated. Skills weren’t interesting or any game changing, collectibles were annoying but needed and part of the gameplay. There wasn’t even interesting enemies, they were the same all over again.

It started fun, but overall was the same again and again, without interesting story parts, and always climbing and climbing. There was no challenge I liked to do. Too many checkpoints and all the hints what to do next if I get stuck just a little bit took any tension and challenge from the game. Especially the third half of game was a huge time waste. The “Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch”-DLC was actually pretty good.

And then after finishing it, the cliffhanger at the end… man that was frustrating ending without answering the questions.

The “you died” text on it makes me wonder if it was some kind of special Dark Souls thing. But I don’t remember any special Dark Souls release on Xbox.

It could have been custom made back when they were doing that if you bought directly from MS. Not sure if they still do that, but I rememeber it being a thing back in, I think, the XB360 days.

theskyisfalling,

Yeh it was the text that was throwing me. I’ve customised my own controllers with different coloured buttons etc before so that part was easily explainable but the text is professionally added and I never knew that was a thing people did (seems like a waste of money to me)

Turns out it is a design labs custom one as per the other responses though. Learn something new every day!

There’s you can nitpick about the reboot but for its time, it was a phenomenal game. Had a lot of fun with it

DdCno1,

The presentation was genuinely astounding. An absolute marvel for the hardware it runs on and it still holds up today, at least visually. Gameplay-wise, not so much, unfortunately.

Dymonika,

Gameplay-wise it’s still fine!

Finally started in on Diablo 4: Season 6, and it was a little bit of a pain leveling up with the new system, but once I got into the paragon boards, man, things really took off. I am in love with my Dance of Knives Rogue. She is mowing down mobs like they're nothing. It's only been a week and I'm already on the Slayer chapter for season objectives. At this rate I'll be done faster than my Necromancer last season.

Played Amnesia: The Bunker (again, lol) one night for a couple more achievements: never dropping/storing an item and playing through the whole game without saving. I was also trying to go for three with one about taking out a bunch of rats, but for some reason I could never get more than a group of 4. Oh well.

Tomb Raider 2013 really didn’t have to go that hard, but god damn it, it did.

ThirdWorldOrder,

It was much more fun for me than the originals. Back then it was just about seeing how clear I could render the boobs on my voodoo 3Dfx. Teenager things

I got back into Path of Exile a month ago, and that’s still going on. Last time I didn’t do more than finishing the campaign, but this time I’m well into end game and it’s great!

I’ve also started playing Siege Survival: Gloria Victis this weekend. You play as a couple of characters in a city that’s under siege. During the day you need to create supplies for the soldiers in your bastion, and during the nights you’ve got to sneak around the city and gather materials, or scout behind the enemey lines to get Intel for the next siege attack. It’s actually really fun!

After playing Space Marine 2 getting bored of that in 8 hours after finishing the extremely short story and all the post story content. Moved onto throne and Liberty just for the game to be heavy pay 2 win and also full of bots. Back to the good ol EverQuest - Quarm server.

If you haven’t tried them, give Ori a go. I finished Ori and the Blind Forest, it was amazing. Then I went on to Ori and the Will of the Wisps which builds on the first one. So in the first one you’ll be unlocking stuff and in the second one you can still do all those things and some extra stuff you’ll have to select according to the situation.

Beware though, some of the things they expect you to do can be challenging.

Play on PC if your monitor supports HDR, otherwise Switch’ll do fine.

More Diablo 4, after finally getting over my cold. Playing through the campaign was super boring (being sick and miserable didn’t help). All that time is also basically wasted, and you just want it to be over as fast as possible, to actually start progressing your character. Future seasons might be better, since you can skip the campaign, but a bunch of stuff only unlocks after you hit max level anyway, so who knows. The expansion increased the difficulty of the game, added some more difficulty options and did a stat squish, but I don’t think I’m a big fan. Until yesterday, it felt like I was just treading water, not making much progress. Then I managed to unlock Torment 3 difficulty, change my build a bit and get good enough gear, started blasting through enemies, and had more fun. So, while I’m not bored out of my skull anymore, I think I’ll just finish the season journey and battle pass, and then take another break from the game.

Did the game dark souls have a combo release?

theskyisfalling,

Not that I knew of and apparently it is a custom made one as per the other responses. Til

been playing Callisto Protocol since i got it free from the Epic Store a little while back. I’m really enjoying it.

ConstableJelly,

So close to great. I wish more developers were making environmentally detailed, high production value, single player linear games like Callisto Protocol. Just that little bit better executed to round out the total package.

Renacles, do games w Corporate greed is killing RuneScape

I quit when they announced the membership increase a few months ago.

I’ve been logging on for the new updates since my membership lasts until next month but they have all been pretty much terrible since.

It really saddens me to see the game go down this path.

Buttflapper,

Don’t worry, there will be better times ahead friend. Maybe not for this game, but I’m sure that someone will be inspired by the joy that the game brought them and create something similar. Games like Valheim arose this way, and the original dev (Gower) is creating another game with no microtransactions in it at all. Just sucks that this has to keep happening repeatedly with every game

Renacles,

I’m just glad I came back for the Elder God Wars year, that was some of the best RuneScape content we’ve ever gotten.

Malgas, do gaming w Can anyone help me identify this Xbox controller?

but it seems too good quality to be custom work and is definitely an official controller.

Custom official controllers are a thing.

theskyisfalling,

I knew custom controllers were a thing but honestly the quality looked too good that I presumed it wasn’t a custom one. Thank you for the reply though! Solves that mystery :D
