Smash Remix is a mod for Super Smash Bros for the Nintendo 64. Very easy to emulate on basically any device you can plug into your TV. It’s all the fun of Smash Bros with all the weirdness, jank, and accessible hype combos of Smash 64.

If your device can handle it, the port of Sonic The Fighters for PS3 is also very cute and fun. It also has an active netplay community.

I played most of Cat Quest 2 only to reach the difficulty cliff that is Lioner. For the most part the game was quite easy then bam! multi-phase boss that’s immune to one of the game’s two damage types. Multi-phase bosses and total immunity to damage types are bullshit. The quest that involves killing Lioner is a level 80 quest and I first tried it at level 92 and failed. I grinded up to level 97 but I haven’t had the… passion? to fight him again. I’m seriously considering using something like Cheat Engine to lock my health at max. And apparently there’s a second difficulty spike.

I played a couple of hours Borderlands GOTY Enhanced and I’m sure the XP gain has been changed. In the OG Borderlands I’d get to Nine Toes around level 5, maybe level 6 if I grind a little bit but in GOTY I was level 7 when fighting him with no grinding at all. The graphics don’t seem to have changed much although it’s been a while.

I tried playing Baldur’s Gate 3 but I just could not get into it. It’s kind of odd though because I was able to get much further into DOS2 (I got bored early in the third act). It didn’t help that my GPU fans were going full brrrr the entire time.

I played a little bit of Holocure after watching Kronii Ouro play it but what she played and what I played seemed to be completely different games gameplay-wise, reverse bullet hell isn’t really my jam.

I bought Dwarf Journey and Shakedown Hawaii for a trip I’m taking this week so hopefully they’re good.

Finished Baldur’s Gate 3, Act 3 was much buggier than I thought. Still had a great time and want to do another playthrough in a year or two, once most of the bugs are fixed.

Started Quake 2, the recently released Enhanced version. It’s fun, I like the weapons more than in Quake 1, the Super Shotgun can actually kill stuff now. I also prefer the sci-fi environments more than the medieval ones in the first game.

Lastly, I randomly decided to give Baldur’s Gate 1 a shot, after I finished the third one. I never really played it or any of the other old Infinity Engine games before, although I got all the Steam releases years ago. I’m playing as a Half-Orc Fighter, named Big Stick, who goes around whacking stuff with a big stick (a quarterstaff). The game is ok so far, nothing spectacular. I’m still really early, only chapter 2, and I’m just travelling around everywhere I can, bonking stuff until it explodes, and helping people in need.

Not that this was one of your listed options, but have you considered setting up your own Plex/Jellyfin/Emby server along with the *arrs and adding her to that? You can’t get much more snappy and Netflix-like than that.

I can’t imagine this would offer a very pleasant viewing experience for a first timer when it relies on stuff like YTS, RARBG (they need to update their page apparently), KAT, EZTV, and TPB. I can see the potential for her to be bombarded with a bunch of fakes and low quality rips.

Darksiders Genesis is a fantastic co-op game.

cordlesslamp,

Hell yeah, you don’t even need to play the singleplyer trilogy first to understand it. My buddy and I have a blast 100% it. So good.

Not exactly what you’ve asked for but you can download something like lidarr and plug it into your spotify recommendations and let it go. you’ll wind up with a huge library of everything you like to listen to.

evranch,

Thanks, this sounds like a great way to start building a library and might actually be more effective than downloading massive torrents, especially as it claims to handle metadata and tagging effectively. Definitely will give it a try!

ElderWendigo,

Lidarr is definitely worth a try (and also worth figuring out docker containers for).

Lidarr can be very effective at building a library, but be prepared for it to grab a bunch of stuff you maybe didn’t know you wanted and sometimes struggle to get that one specific album you need to go complete a set. It takes quite a bit of fiddling to get it going on it’s own. I’ve never really let it have free reign. I make it add torrents paused so that I can approve them individually and I don’t let it touch the part of my collection that I consider final and good. For example, I’d never want it to over write the stuff I ripped from my personal collection of physical media. So far as I can tell Lidarr is still also not the right tool if you have or want a bunch of live recordings or bootlegs.

I still buy a bunch of music, but now it’s almost all purchased as directly from the artists as I can reasonably manage; like live show merch tables, band websites, Bandcamp, etc. It wouldn’t be odd for me to grab a rip from Lidarr at the same time I buy a copy in my preferred physical format from the artist. Don’t forget to add that new stuff’s metadata to musicbrainz.org if it doesn’t already exist. Past me has definitely saved present me some hassle by doing this when I wanted to reorganize my library.

Getting back into Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker. I'm about at the end of the game and I've really enjoyed playing a portable full on stealth game. Its scope is quite limited, what with it being a PSP game, but it actually serves to breed a pretty easygoing stealth game with not too much of a cost for getting caught and pretty limited sound and sight ranges to match the small level sections.

While it's totally limited it's actually a bit refreshing compared to how tight being stealthy can be in even the home console MGS games.

I started back up the first Blasphemous after finally getting around to figuring out cloud saves on the steam deck (I just forced the windows build). I'd definitely like to get through it and into 2, but I feel like I'm bombarded with huge games I need to play this fall. It might work as a game I can play while watching TV. I started back up while watching 24 (I loved it when I was younger, but watching back I really didn't recognize just how great the writing was.)

I'm still hooked hard on BG3, though. A fucking lot of hours in and I'm still on act 1.

If you liked “It takes two”, you should absolutely play “A way out”!

It’s from the same developer and has a similar emphasis on co-op.

knokelmaat,

I honestly preferred A Way Out. Way more jank and less polished, but just the perfect mix of humor, drama, sillyness and emotions. And so many epic and memorable scenes.

nixnoodle, do gaming w Switch 2 - launch games?

Regarding Zelda, I would expected them to release an upgraded version of totk, since they often seem to release at least one Zelda game for two generations; TP was on GameCube and Wii, BotW was on Wii-U and Switch. Alternatively, a (super-expensive) 2-pack game with BotW+TotK including DLC?

chipt4,

Maybe a remake of age of oracles/seasons a la link’s awakening? Also the rumored re-release of WWHD & skyward sword.
