I mostly just listen to podcasts these days. I don’t have time to watch someone play a game for an hour+.

I still listen to the Giant Bombcast and now Jeff’s show.

Armored Core 6, first time I’m playing a game of the series and it’s kicking my ass! But it’s fun and has a really great atmosphere and setting.

I’m on the last level of Dishonored 2 (low chaos playthrough). It’s taken me a year to get here because I don’t have much free time and I get bored playinr the same game every time I get free time.

just cause 3

GrindingGears,

The last good one.

trainden,

It’s been a while since I read something about that game. Is it actually a bad game, or just a bad Just Cause game?

GrindingGears,

Just Cause 4 changed everything around. It’s just not fun, it’s really boring, plus the progression has been changed all around.

Let’s be frank, the Just Cause games were never the highest of quality, the plots were always terrible, and they were super repetative. But they were good zone out and just have a good time exploring and playing action-sandbox sort of games. Just Cause 2’s map was pretty big for it’s time too. 2 and 3 are the best of the series. 4 is a dud.

Been a mix of Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Crab Champions on PC. The latter is surprisingly good for a game I thought was just a meme

I’ve been playing heaps of Alpha Sapphire on the 3DS, on and off, and really delighted to find that the online mmo-lite elements are still working. So I’m mostly wandering around finding other people’s secret bases, trading and then spending way too much time using Pokemon Amie. This game is lovely, and I’m still finding new things in it. I think it might be my favourite Pokemon game.

Starfield. I’m only a few hours in, but enjoying it so far.

Are there any international Discord server for gaming news?

RxBrad,
@RxBrad@lemmings.world avatar

No.

This is not what Discord is for.

People need to stop trying to use Discord as a forum, or a wiki, or a website, or a file repo, or as the Support page for a product.

Discord is group chat. You say something. It’s relavent for five minutes. Then it might as well have never happened.

Huh? There is even a forum function that can act as a news feed.
It is what you make it.

bermuda, (edited ) do gaming w What type of game you want to see that doesn't fully exist yet?

So, while INFRA already does fully exist, I’d love to see more games like it. It’s really hard to describe what INFRA is without major spoilers, but if you’ve played it then you probably know what I’m talking about.

It’s like… take the new Chernobyl game and remove literally all the death states, then fill it to the brim with easter eggs, lore content, secret rooms and pathways, challenging logic puzzles, stuff like that. INFRA ticked all those boxes for me and I have yet to find a game like it.

Every game that I’ve looked at and been recommended as being “like INFRA” always has some major flaw or some concession that really sets it apart from the original game. INFRA is pretty much all about exploring your surroundings to uncover the plot of the game and even change some of the story if you’re vigilant enough about the puzzles. You can literally complete the game just as a walking sim while doing fuck-all, but I think most players will find the intrigue of the story interesting enough to be almost coerced into going down the other fork in the road, so to speak. Like there are sections in every chapter where you have to use your knowledge in civil engineering to repair some sort of machinery using intermediate logic puzzles, but you’re always able to just skip it. However, completing these puzzles allows you to unlock the story as the puzzles require exploration. Hope that made sense.

Brightwave,

I wasn’t expecting to see INFRA mentioned but it’s one of my favorite games for a lot of the reasons you mentioned! It really had a sense for exploration and environments to tell more of the story. And it really is part puzzle game without having any single gimmick like other first person games. It reminds me a lot of Half Life 2’s puzzles (which makes sense since INFRA was also built in Source as far as I can remember).

I’m really itching for more expansions or games like it. Not sure what happened to the DLC they were working on, but there were some groups working on mods.

stardust, do games w Are there any reputable independent gaming sites left?

I’d like to know too. Just me realize I don’t have a go to reviewer or site anymore, but been mainly relying on just user submitted trailers to know about new games and word of mouth when it comes to if I want to buy it.

PrettyLights,

My suggestion for YouTube video reviews currently is ACG. He states that he buys every game he reviews and if the studio sends him a copy for free he gives a copy away to the community out of his own pocket to try and reduce the bias.

He also seems to do a good job of testing on a variety of difficulty levels and platforms.

The original Yoshi’s Island is so much fun! How far along are you now?

I’ve been replaying Stardew Valley lately. My first run was in 2018 when it was still version 1.3, so there’s loads of new content to play through.

chloyster,

Yeah it’s great! I’ve started it a few times but recently got an analogue pocket and am trying to finish a lot of those older games I’ve never finished. I think I’m about half way through world 4 now. Still deciding if I want to try and 100% every level to get the bonus levels haha

I know it’s not quite what you’re asking for, but it’s where I get my gaming news from at least. I have subbed to SkillUp on YT for a very long time, and he covers loads of games and does weekly news videos where he covers the latest. The vids are very genuine and authentic, imo.

He, and a few of his friends also started a very chill and good podcast called Friends Per Second going more in depth on different gaming topics.

Highly recommended 🙌

Am a fan too. I’d mention YongYea here, but the unorganized unscripted way in which he makes 20 minute videos on every topic really kills it for me.

SkillUp’s weekly summary is much nicer.

Edit: remembered a word

OscarRobin,

Yeah unfortunately I agree. I think Yong seems like a cool guy but his videos always start with a lengthy recap which anyone who watches his channel already knows from his previous video on whatever is recapped, and then he takes the longest possible route to explain the topic too.

I reckon if he made 5 min videos without all the fluff he’d be great.

PrettyLights,

YongYea just reads reddit threads without providing any actual commentary or context of his own. He repeats himself until he crosses the video length threshold for monetization.

He also had a nasty case where rushed his Cyberpunk 2077 review to be one of the first to monetize, and then monetized his apology video where he stated he didn’t really play the game enough to review it. And he admits he “went way too easy on this game in a way that I wouldn’t have with other games or companies and the review shouldn’t be up”.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WeCfKzwaV0

I also remember when I used to watch him before Final Fantasy 7 Remake came out and he acted like he was a longtime huge fan of the original game, but when he watched the ff7r trailer he seemed like he barely knew the basics.

RisingSwell,

SkillUp is great, I have a bunch of new games specifically because of him.
