BURN, do games w 'The Witcher 4 will channel the “freedom” of CDPR’s Cyberpunk 2077'

I feel like I’m in the minority here, but imo CP2077 is a much more fun game than the Witcher 3. I couldn’t get more than a few hours into TW3 without getting bored, which was never a problem with CP2077.

It was actually one of the major reasons I didn’t initially buy CP2077, as I very much disliked the gameplay of TW3

homicidalrobot,

Tiny boat we’re in. I started with the witcher 2 right after having played dragon’s dogma and couldn’t handle the extremely clunky combat. My friends assured me 3 was a huge step forward and I was harassed to play the whole game on stream, and I did. Honestly, not that big of a step, the world felt starkly dead compared to other open world fare, the combat was years behind games that came out at the same time, and the story and setting did not feel very unique to me at all.

I felt the same way about a lot of the heavier dialogue that people did at large about Forspoken. Plot felt like it was on stilts, barely hitting the points it needed to to keep my interest. Not that it was out of context bits like Forspoken, but the dialogue felt out of touch with the setting really frequently. Poor selection of magic despite what was shown to you in-setting. Build balancing like an mmo where nothing you craft or otherwise come into owning early on actually mattered at all. 15 more armor was not changing the number of hits you could take in a fight it all.

TW 3 wasn’t super inventive or even really fun compared to other games that launched when it did or even before, and I don’t understand the extreme hype for it when everyone I talk to says the first two games are so wildly different and worth skipping, which has been my experience. If it’s not about the characters’ story arcs across all 3 games, what the hell is it that makes people enjoy it so much? I’ve looked hard, I’ve played hard, and I just never found it.

Pyr_Pressure,

Personally I spent over a hundred hours in TW3 and finished all the DLC whereas I couldn’t get past the first few intro missions to CP2077. Gave it up in under 20 hours or so. Can’t even remember why the game just never stuck out as special in any way to me.

BURN,

Funny, cause I’m the same except flipped. I’m going on 300 hours into CP2077, but couldn’t make it past hour 5-6 of TW3 for much the same reason.

Joker,

Same here. I love Cyberpunk, but I just can’t get into Witcher 3 after attempting it a few times. It’s boring, the combat is shitty and I’m just not interested enough in the lore to deal with it. Not that the combat in Cyberpunk is great either. I guess I’m just more interested in that world.

Holyginz, do games w Meta Quest 3 demand allegedly 5 million units below expected level

I had/have the first two quests. But needing a Facebook account was one thing I had to think hard about when I got it because I wanted to delete my account. With Facebook getting worse and worse it means I have zero desire to get a new one.

And to address the article, I would say it isn’t that interest in VR is decreasing, people don’t want meta VR or anything tied to Zuckerberg. I would love a valve index personally, just need to wait to afford it.

NOT_RICK,
@NOT_RICK@lemmy.world avatar

I would already own a quest if just about any other company made it

hightrix,

Hard agree.

If it wasn’t made by Facebook, I’d have bought quest 1, 2, and pro. Easily.

But that’s not the case so I have an OG vive and a psvr2. I don’t really do much PC VR these days.

conciselyverbose,

It's kind of in a weird spot, because it's a niche enthusiast market, owned by a company tech enthusiasts know enough to fucking despise.

fibojoly,

It really is. It’s great seeing how much progress the game had made in a few years, although it’s still far from perfect.

Franzia,

Interesting. Thank you!

I’d be happier if the site didn’t violate the GDPR

A bit of added context:
They are based in Latvia, which is part of the EU, so subject to the GDPR. And under the GDPR, the use of Google Analytics is in fact unlawful without getting explicit and informed (that one’s very important) consent from the user.

Article 44 is the relevant one here, detailing data transfers to so-called third countries outside the EU.

GreenMario, do gaming w Starfield remake created in two days actually lets you fly seamlessly from space to the surface

I would be impressed if they did it in Gamebryo/Creation Engine and solve the “everything is a cell” problem. I mean, No man’s Sky and Elite Dangerous exist and have shown seem less space travel. One guy with DarkBasic did it in the Evochron games for decades.

This comes off as a hey look look at me I can do it in a cave with a box of scraps but BUGTHESDA can’t in 7 years?!

comicallycluttered,

I think the problem is also that Bethesda doesn’t really “do” vehicles, probably due to engine limitations.

Usually, it’s just horses or “passenger” travel (like when you man the guns in FO4 birds). I guess one could maybe consider power armor in FO4 to be kind of like a “vehicle”, but it works more or less the same as just walking around.

Oh, there is dragon riding in Skyrim, but it’s a mess and you don’t have that much control.

I’m surprised the engine can even handle space combat, honestly. And 360° movement as well, which would have been great for dragon riding in Skyrim. But most of the dragons in TES are dead, so we probably won’t get proper dragon riding in whatever TES: VI is.

(Sidenote about dragon riding/combat: Before Larian delved further into CRPGs, they made a regular third person RPG where you could play as a dragon. It was actually pretty fun. Still didn’t have full control, and it was only in certain sections, but it was entertaining. Divinity II: Director’s Cut, in case anyone’s interested. Don’t know how well it’s aged, but I enjoyed it a few years ago.)

GreenMario,

FO4 power armor was close to a vehicle as they got but that might as well been horse code for all I know.

It does suck they can’t do vehicles since it would be nice to have a motorcycle in Fallout or a mad max car.

Oh and Larians entire back catalog is great. They were definitely eurojank back then but Divine Divinity and Div2 is good games.

Ser_Salty,

Power Armor in FO4 is actually classed as furniture in the engine, IIRC

GreenMario,

Lol that’s great. Like that train in FO3 that was some NPC’s head

Ser_Salty,

There have been a couple of mods for Fallout 4 and New Vegas to add vehicles. IIRC the only one that wasn’t just an object floating across the ground was in that big expansion mod made by sex perverts, I forget what it’s called. New something?

ConstableJelly, do gaming w Soulframe is Elden Ring meets Ghost of Tsushima, but with 'Disney princesses' - PCGamesN

Cozy f2p MMO with Disney princess vibes is a mix of Elden Ring and Ghost of Tsushima? This equation does not compute.

Gameplay demo looks fine…but the encounters looked a little manufactured to give the appearance of elden-ring-like combat, when I would wager it’s going to be much more hack n slashy in reality.

sandriver,

Cozy Soulslike is a great concept honestly. I loved the first Dark Souls because it mostly facilitated slow and tactical combat. Favourite build was a pyromancer with a high stability shield. Tweak the numbers to add more tolerance to errors (like the boss demonstration showed) and you do get a much more relaxed Soulslike.

HKayn,
@HKayn@dormi.zone avatar

I’m pretty sure the only reason those two games are mentioned in the headline is to boost the article’s SEO

ConstableJelly,

Eh, the interviewer and developer make explicit references to both in the article.

beebarfbadger, do games w Baldur’s Gate 3 boss says gamers don’t want mass subscriptions

Corporations want gamers to want mass subscriptions because they want to rent out their games forever instead of getting only a single payment for their product. And then they find flimsy excuses to push subscriptions for products that do not warrant subscriptions but are mutilated to squeeze some way of adding subscriptions into them. And then the corporations let games without subscriptions fail while pretending that subscription-based services are delivered because there’s demand and not because they don’t want to deliver finished products that don’t generate easy endless trickling revenue streams.

Eggyhead, do gaming w Valve updates Steam store to bring PlayStation DualSense support
@Eggyhead@kbin.social avatar

I've had playstations for multiple console generations, but I just ordered an OLED Deck as my first ever "gaming PC". Forgive the naivety, but could non-supported titles potentially get Dualsense features modded in?

maniel,

Yeah, that’s what steam input did, it emulates a controller on the fly, you can even emulate a keyboard and mouse in games that don’t support controllers, I have a steam controller and in most fps I configured it to emulate a controller but with mouse look on the right touch pad and gyroscope on a light press on left trigger, unfortunately some games don’t support simultaneous mouse and controller use, other games change UI when switching between mouse and controller, which may be annoying

LyD,

Do you mean features like the haptic triggers?

Eggyhead,
@Eggyhead@kbin.social avatar

Yeah, haptic triggers, high definition rumble, touch pad... things like that.

LyD,

Touchpad always works, but the haptic triggers and rumble need you to be wired. They also only work in supported games like Spiderman. I remember needing to go into desktop mode to enable the controller’s “speaker” for the rumble.

prole,

Adaptive triggers begin as a hardware feature. Steam Deck can’t emulate that without changing the triggers out completely (if it’s possible at all).

I imagine the internal motors for the crazy precise haptic feedback is also hardware level.

TheWildTangler,

Steam Input will allow you to use a PS controller with any game (even ones that aren’t made for a controller!)

However, if you mean adaptive triggers, haptic, etc. Then this page is what you want. It’s a list of games with either native or modded support

JokeDeity,

Huge asterisk on any game, many don’t work for me with an original Sony branded DS5, I end up having to use DSX way more than I would like.

HidingCat, do games w Counter-Strike 2 has a lower rating than any other Valve game, ever

Did they forget that failed CCG that Valve was trying? Pretty sure that went into Mostly Negative for a bit too.

monk,

Lol Artefact. I did forget about that

HidingCat,

Yea, I forgot the name too, that's why I didn't name it. xD

zpoex, do games w Meta Quest 3 demand allegedly 5 million units below expected level
@zpoex@sh.itjust.works avatar

Lol what did they even expect… Their VR team has to be dysfunctional in some way. Like my quest2 somehow got worse after a new upgrade. They added these stupid ass cartoon arms (which cannot be disabled!!) and also your headset is used as a controller after your controllers idle for 5 minutes, which became a huge pain in the ass when watching movies. (Also can’t be disabled btw)

Idc about all that Facebook shit (although it’ll be way nicer to not have it), but everything about the quest except the hardware is just so fucking stupid. I have way higher expectation on Apple’s device… Say what you want about them, but they don’t have braindead product design (most of the time hehe)

Molecular0079,

Omg I thought I was the only one who hated the arms. Nothing worse than putting down your controllers on the table and then having those stupid arms spaz out around your screen as it tries to resolve how your hand could possibly be in that position.

I totally agree. Each firmware upgrade has just made my Quest 2 worse and worse.

zpoex,
@zpoex@sh.itjust.works avatar

Haha it seems like a common complaint on Reddit at least. The virtual environment stuff in Oculus is such a shitshow lmao

Anticorp,

And you can’t reject an update. They won’t even let you use your headset if there’s an update available. I haven’t used mine in months because every time I try to use it the battery is dead, then once I get it charged it needs an update, and by the time that’s done I don’t have any time left.

zpoex,
@zpoex@sh.itjust.works avatar

Hahahah fr… Like all I want is to play some simple games (eleven vr for example) and watch movies. Why tf you gotta add all these extra bs. But I guess that’s just them as a company. Rift S is so much easier to use

HidingCat,

Lolwut, cartoon arms? This I gotta see. xD Gonna trawl YouTube for examples.

miss_brainfart, (edited ) do games w Your Minecraft account might be gone forever unless you act now
@miss_brainfart@lemmy.ml avatar

I migrated my account ages ago, and I keep getting emails telling me to migrate anyway. These messages are sent to the Microsoft address I migrated to.

I contacted support, and they told me everything’s fine, my account is properly migrated, and that I should ignore these messages, since they’re probably attempts at phishing. (That look 100% legit, might I add. Nothing about these messages looks alarming or wrong in any way, which is what made me contact support in the first place.)

That microsoft account of mine never received any questionable messages before, so thanks for leaking my data to malicious actors, I guess.
