I really appreciated learning how much Immersive Sim is in Indiana Jones.

You get a hazy overhead map and need to navigate lots of hidden entrances, presented through verticality, exploring to find valuables. You can win in combat through good reflexes, but once surrounded your only option is to run. There’s no detective vision, and it instead relies on vocal barks where guards chatter or cough or sneeze often enough to remind you where they are.

The stealth isn’t fully on par, since you’re low on gadgets and darkness doesn’t seem to do a lot, but it’s there. I got the same sense of glee as Soulslike games when I take a long circuit to some door, unlock it, and it leads back to a common area, providing me a new shortcut.

You want spiritual successors to Deus Ex & System shock ? Look up Peripeteia & DeepState(They are still in development though)

If Warren Spector is actually involved I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt but I’m not thrilled about the competitive multiplayer aspect and the trailer presentation made me think “hero shooter” more than Deus Ex/Thief spiritual successor. Also Spector’s track record over the 20 post-Eidos years isn’t exactly glowing.

I hope they mean thief the Dark Project and not Thief (2014).

OtherSide also failed to make System Shock 3 so expecting this to ship is… hopeful

A co-op campaign I’d be down for, but I can’t say I’m excited for this. I’m just not feeling the vibe.

Wrufieotnak,

Coop Immersive Sim sounds awesome to be honest.

As a Spies vs Merc (2013) enjoyer, i’d like to try it. And of course the server will be dead within weeks of lauch, lol.

OutlierBlue, do games w Thief has a new spiritual sequel, built by the Deus Ex and System Shock devs

Oh, multiplayer competitive? No thanks. I have no interest in that at all.

naticus,

Yep, hard pass. I’ll occasionally play a co-op game here and there with friends, but as soon as you add pvp, especially if required, I’m out without regret and nothing will bring me back.

It’s called Thief, not Thieves

I got excited until I found out this was a multiplayer title. This is a great team making a game that I couldn’t possibly care about, makes me sad to say their effort is dead to me.

Huh. Thief 1&2, System Shock 1&2 and Deus Ex make up half of my top 10 games list. But multiplayer? I donno, maybe if there is also a good single player campaign I’ll be interested. I’d be happy with a modern Thief 1&2 remaster. NewDark and TheDarkMod are great, but I’d love to have full raytracing in Thief.

Nope… always online multiplayer PvP game ain’t System Shock …and it sure as hell isn’t Deus Ex

stupidcasey, do games w Windows 7 and 8 now dead for gaming, as new Steam update pulls support

Well the last good windows is dead.

Once windows 10 is dead I am full Linux, I have already begun the transition, any time I have to install a new Os it’s now fedora 40.

kalpol,

No reason not to go now.

stupidcasey,

Time, my last hold out is my main gaming rig, I have it set up exactly as I want it and I don’t want to rewrite the entire thing.

kalpol,

Valid

oce, do games w Windows 7 and 8 now dead for gaming, as new Steam update pulls support
@oce@jlai.lu avatar

Does it also pull support for old Linux distributions?

DarkThoughts,

Not directly but I'd think they'd pull support for older system packages & kernels, which would eventually affect you. There's not really much of a reason not to upgrade your Linux distros though.

atro_city,

What support?

Mesophar,

It’s Steam; you might wish they had more support on Linux, but you can’t say that Steam doesn’t support Linux.

bdonvr,

Honestly I struggle to imagine how Steam could support it more.

tekato,

Steam client needs the XWayland translation layer to work on any modern DE, plus 32-bit libraries (which are not installed by default).

Voyajer,
@Voyajer@lemmy.world avatar

He could be alluding to valve only supporting their own distro and Ubuntu LTS officially.

Mesophar,

Maybe? But all the resources Valves puts towards supporting Proton benefits everyone gaming on Linux, even those not using a Steam client.

tekato,

They don’t support new technologies (Wayland), why would they drop support for old ones?

Voyajer,
@Voyajer@lemmy.world avatar

Steam has only ever supported the latest Ubuntu LTS and Steam OS.

daggermoon,

It still works the same on any distro with SystemD. Side note, I have seen people getting Steam to work on Void and Artix.

kittenzrulz123,

I use Steam and I run Alpine

daggermoon,

That’s pretty cool. Do you have a potato computer or do you just like a minimal system?

kittenzrulz123,

I have a minimal system on my Thinkpad T440p

daggermoon,

Nice, I have a T420 myself. I love that machine. I was running Peppermint OS for a while. Until version 11, Hasn’t been the same since 10. The update from 10 to 11 kind of took all the magic out of it for me. Now that machine runs EndeavourOS.
