Paradachshund, do games w I've been replaying Into The Breach lately and stumbled on what I think is an insane power squad.

I really liked this game, but I used all my unlock points on the wrong squads and couldn’t progress any further to get new ones. I wish they hadn’t bound the unlock currency to getting achievements with each squad. It made it so if I bought one I ended up hating there was no shot of getting any money back. Otherwise it’s a great game though.

First of all, thank you for doing these, more original content is always welcome and appreciated! I really like your writing style and that the subjects you cover are just things you find interesting, whether they're related or not. Like you said, it's more of a old gaming blog style, which is cool.

I also played the shit out of Abuse back in the day but never finished it, so thanks for the excuse to give it another go. Although I did find the 15 fps limit added to the charm of the game, so to speak. But I'll try this new version.

Liking this post series. Looking forward to the next one!

thermal_shock, do games w A funny thing in Iran is how they repackage old PlayStation consoles

Are they labeled as refurb? As long as they’re not being passed off as new, 100% can get behind this.

Chef_Boyardee, do gaming w Small, incremental improvements don't make shockwaves like the old massive tech leaps used to.

Ignorance is bliss.

Nice post! I would like to add I personnally had issues with heroic launcher for it to recognize the steamdeck inputs (in my case LotR:Return to Moria, from Epic. I tried Heroic and Lutris, Lutris is my go to on desktop). My solution was to launch the games from steam after adding them with this.

SwordInStone,

imo you lost nothing, that game is hot garbage

Alfredolin,

I did not lose anything since the game is runing well and I got it for free. The game does have some weird things going on and miss some features indeed but as long as I can have fun with friends…

SwordInStone,

good for you and yeah I should have written “you would have lost”

The Star Wars Battlefront games. With how horribly the liver service EA version that came out in 2015 was and how dead it apparently is, the PS2 games are the only ones I’ll ever acknowledge as existing.

Also, one of my personal favorites that I’d consider a must have is Dokopon Kingdom. Yes the remake/remaster exists, but I don’t normally go for remasters in most situations. Gameplay is just roll a spinner, move on board, and adventure around the world while trying to do quests if you are in the story mode.

Both games have a lot of content and replayability in my eyes, which makes a game more of a must have for me.

Edit:

Hot Wheels: Beat That! Looked it up because I couldn’t remember the name, but that’s a racing game with a good amount of replayability and isn’t as short as something like Cartoon Network Racing. Didn’t realize it came out on various other consoles and PC, but can definitely recommend on at least PS2 (how I ended up playing it).

Another one for Jak & Daxter. I’ve got OpenGOAL and PCSX2, and between them both I have the full Jak series. I was playing Jak 3 when I had a crash, but then I had been playing it like all day.

I’ve also been making my way through the first three Sly Cooper games (loved the series as a kid, but only ever got to play the third one for myself) and they’ve been running flawlessly.

My plan is to play through the Ratchet & Clank PS2 games as I never really got a chance to play them when they were fresh or otherwise. I’m excited for those.

Then I might go and play through the Spyro PS2 era games, minus the original trilogy as I have Reignited already.

Aside from those I have a bunch of other classics I’ve played and loved/wanted to play like the Tak games, Ultimate Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2, Batman: Vengeance, and others.

I would also be open to suggestions. I’m very into 3D platformers and action RPGs.

wizardbeard,

If you’ve tried the Crash Bandicoot N-Sane trilogy, there are a few sequels of differing quality on PS2. I don’t think any of them are particularly bad, but none are as good as the original PS1 trilogy (or the N-Sane remakes).

TheOakTree,

If you like Jak, you’ll have a blast with Ratchet and Clank. Lots of good ol action platforming.

Klonoa 2 and Spongebob Battle for Bikini Bottom might also be worth looking into. I specifically remember finding tons of shortcuts in SBBB that were probably unintended, but that game also got a remaster in the last few years.

One of the weirdest games I’ve ever played: Okage: Shadow King.

Think Final Fantasy gameplay + Zelda: Majora’s Mask level of being genuinely bizarre as all hell.

Fair warning, the music will be stuck in your head for the rest of your life.

Any of the Suikoden games really. Legend of legaia 2

Ephemeral Fantasia for an extremely underrated gem.

prole,

I believe a Suikoden 1 & 2 remaster is coming out soon.

I’m with the Ico and Shadow of the Colossus stans, but I’d be curious how your emulation handles the light effects. PCSX2 struggles in my experience.

As a long time fan of Dino Crisis, an an avid hater of the REmakes for ditching the fixed cameras for generic, now over-copied over the shoulder camera, I am hoping Dino Crisis gets the “REmake treatment.” It makes me smile to see it so prominently featured in this image.

Dino Crisis differed from Resident Evil in that it was not truly a Survival Horror game. Capcom knew this from the beginning, as it was marketed as “Panic Horror.” In other words: “Action Horror.” The perfect genre description for the REmake games starting with RE2.

Survival Horror requires de-emphasis on combat, actively encouraging the player to choose to NOT get in combat (through severe item scarcity or boring combat mechanics that feel unfun to engage with). A third person over the shoulder camera inherently emphasizes combat by making the player want to engage in combat because they feel like they have greater control, and it is more fun. This is why I always say RE1 already has a perfect remake and should be left out of the “REmake treatment.” RE1 is purely Survival Horror, and was not intended to be like a “hollywood action movie” like RE2 and beyond. Dino Crisis, on the other hand, always leaned more into the action side, starting about midway through the original game, and then really almost getting silly in the sequel. Which is why an action camera like the REmakes have would be perfectly fitting to the action focus of the game.

We don’t talk about Dino Crisis 3. It is unfortunate that the Sep 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center happened so close to the games development, as that was the single reason why the game was completely rewritten to take place in outer space. I mean, it was a tradgedy that should never have happened regardless, but still, you hopefully get what I mean.

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@lemmy.world avatar

The first remake is better than any other game in the series I’ve played so far, and I’ve played most of the mainline games at this point. It’s not the best because of its camera perspective, and I think it would be actively improved with an over the shoulder camera like the recent remakes.

LucidNightmare,

Have you heard of Crow Country? Might scratch your itches!

RightHandOfIkaros,

Yes, I have. I haven’t had the time to play it yet, but it is on the list.

LucidNightmare,

It was pretty good! I hope you enjoy it when you do get to play! :)

Must be sad to be so in love with a game which seems to be mostly forgotten, but I love her shrine :)

tanisnikana,

Well, if nothing else, it’s on my Steam Deck too, and the decks seem to make the game more accessible to people who don’t have an eight-hundred dollar bill lying around.

Godort,

Damn, there’s like $900 worth of PS2 games in this image
