Valve's new hardware will NOT be loss leaders

Can everyone please stop claiming and speculating that Valve’s new hardware will be loss leaders? If you watch LTT and Gamers Nexus’s first videos on the announcement, they actually spoke with Valve’s engineers. And the Valve representatives already said that the new hardware WILL NOT BE LOSS LEADERS....

prole,

You can install Windows on the Steam Deck (psychos), so I imagine it’ll be like that.

Gamepad for Linux Gaming?

I’ve got a small backlog of games on my laptop (running Arch Linux with KDE) through Lutris. I usually play with a keyboard and a mouse, but since I sit pretty close to my screen (ik bad habit), it starts getting uncomfortable after a while. So I’ve been thinking about picking up a gamepad for some more relaxed, couch style...

prole,

I use an XBone controller and it worked without having to tweak or change anything. Pretty comfortable for bigger hands too.

prole,

DualSense are just the best controllers out there, in terms of features, period.

I think I prefer the feel and layout of XBone controller though

prole,

Yeah I dunno about all that.

prole,

If you are broke, then go for the generic Logitech. But otherwise, I would recommend staying away. My experience has been that they actually made playing games less fun because they are so shoddy.

Play a couple dozen hours with a XBone or DS controller, and you will understand why they are more expensive.

If I’m going to be holding this thing for potentially hundreds of hours, I’m gonna get something that’s comfortable and works well.

prole,

I don’t think it was quite as generic at the time of release, but yeah I tend to agree

prole,

What are you making notes of? I never had this urge.

Also, in case you weren’t aware, Steam has notes built in and it saves them for each individual game

prole,

Check out Seance of Blake Manor, doesn’t have the rng

prole,

I agree regarding Hollow Knight… It was fine. I don’t really get the hype though, people would make you believe it’s the best game ever made.

prole,

It’s definitely not the best in its genre, if only because they did away with the level design ethos that makes their other games so good.

prole,

You can add any game to Steam and play it through it. Just add the exe as a non steam game.

You must have a better memory than me

I wouldn’t be so sure lol… The game has some built in “mission” stuff, and I’m sure I probably accidentally went to the same place a couple of times when trying to figure out how to progress, but never felt the need to write anything down. I found that the dialogue itself was usually good enough to remind me of anything important I might need to know for the current conversation

Sliced off the tip of my thumb, what are some good one handed games?

Long story short, I was trying to make some pork buns and it ended with the tip of my thumb being sliced off, after hospital visit and six stitches and back. But I’m kind of bored out of my mind. Can’t do the steam deck. Can’t do really anything with a controller. I have a large library of games, most of which I haven’t...

prole,

Steam Input is so fucking awesome, it really deserves so much more attention imo

prole,

Dunno if you’ve seen Seance at Blake Manor, but it’s really fucking good.

It’s like Blue Prince + Golden Idol + Danganronpa

prole,

Nah, difficult settings would ruin From Software games imo. It really is genre, or even game, dependent

prole,

What an insane attempt at an analogy lol

prole,

Sekiro was the one that made the genre click for me after trying and failing to get into DS and Bloodborne.

It is still my favorite game of all time, and now I really enjoy the other From Software games.

prole,

This just is not true for souls like games. The difficulty is a core part of the experience, and lowering it would literally compromise the artistic vision

prole,

Nothing about the difficulty level of From Software games is artificially enforced. Like the exact opposite, really.

prole,

It’s fantastic

prole,

Playing Final Fantasy Tactics as a kid basically made me refuse to allow any units to ever permadie because it took so much goddamn time to level them up and develop the jobs, and the thought of having to hire a new unit at level 1 to replace them is enough to drive a child insane.

To this day, I just can’t deal with it.

prole,

Why not just watch a video of it on YouTube at that point?

prole,

I didn’t understand it personally, until I played and beat Sekiro. It is honestly a feeling like no other.

prole,

That game makes me feel so fucking stupid lol

prole,

JRPGs live or die depending on how the combat works, so I think that first point is a little reductive.

prole,

Lol, I appreciate the edit. Thanks for making it immediately clear that I shouldn’t waste my time reading the rest.

prole,

And that option being present would literally compromise the artistic vision of basically an entire genre of games

prole,

Try Sekiro maybe. It has the most fun and rewarding combat of any game I have ever played.

prole,

Is the existence of the film Stalker somehow gatekeeping movies? Just don’t fucking watch it.

prole,

Exposition 33

Can’t tell if this is a typo or a clever joke

prole,

The difficulty is a key part of the developer’s vision for the game, and changing that compromises it.

prole,

What question?

prole,

Yeah they’re not for everyone.

I don’t really like tower defense games, but I would never dream about trying to tell devs that they’re doing it wrong because I don’t like how they do it. I just don’t play them.

prole,

Oh so literally the question that I just answered.

prole,

lemmy.blahaj.zone/comment/17760131

Sorry if it’s not an acceptable answer to you, but it is true

prole,

Man, the visual style of both Hades games is breathtaking sometimes

prole,

If you didn’t love Pokemon as a kid, then it’s probably not for you as an adult. They are games for children.

prole,

There is a modded version of Majora’s Mask 3D out there that fixes the stupid shit they broke

For those of you who enjoy open-world games, how big of a world is too big?

There are already some huge maps out there, Just Cause 2 and 3 both have maps at around 1000km^2^, and those games are beloved by their players. But if the next Cyberpunk game was announced with Night City now being the size of an actual large metropolis, say like New York, would you say that’s too big? What determines what...

prole,

I prefer smaller open worlds, like in the Yakuza series

prole,

Oh yeah, climbing a tower to unlock a part of the map is so innovative, especially after the 15th fucking time they used it.

prole,

So like Kamurocho in the newer Yakuza/Like a Dragon/Judgement? No need for AI

prole,

I will have to keep playing then… I took a break after a few hours in that first area. No joke, I kept getting distracted and fucking up my disguise because I kept punching fascists. It’s so hard not to.

prole,

It’s so good. I think it might be the most visually stunning game I’ve ever played.

The first one was good, but it didn’t hold my attention long enough. I can’t stop playing this one.

prole,

Man, I wanted to like that game so bad… I just don’t think it’s for me

prole,

I’m playing on hard difficulty, and I struggled a little at the most recent boss (the Oni). Finally beat him though.

Combat feels a little more Sekiro-esque than the first one. At least on the harder difficulties.

I started out, at first, with the one hit kill difficulty, but that was too much lol

prole,

Maybe I’ll try that… However, Sekiro is my favorite game of all time, so maybe I’m a bit of a masochist

prole,

I’ve been hooked on Ghost of Yotei

ROG Xbox Ally runs better on Linux than the Windows it ships with — new test shows up to 32% higher FPS, with more stable framerates and quicker sleep resume times (www.tomshardware.com)

In a not-so-scientific benchmark conducted by YouTuber Cyber Dopamine, the Rog Xbox Ally managed to perform better without Windows, the operating system it ships with out of the box. Cyber installed Bazzite, a popular Linux distro for handhelds built specifically to offer that console-esque, seamless experience. Visually,...

prole,

Everyone who’s ever used a Steam Deck or gamed on Linux in general are like “yeah no shit”
