It doesn’t seem to say, but I think that’s the MS-DOS version.
I don’t know if they ever made a color Mac version. I definitely don’t remember if that one was in color because I eventually got the MS-DOS version and I can’t remember if they were the same.
I adore the first trilogy of DQ games but I’m holding off cause I don’t like or trust SE anymore (plus, denuvo, ugh).
I will say, it’s a better experience to play 1 thru 3 in order with no prior knowledge of what makes them a trilogy. Having 3 stand alone kind of misses that “oh fuuuuuuuck” realization I got to experience (and subjected a friend to, who has yet to forgive me lol). It’s what made 3 one of my favorites next to 5 and 11.
Thank you, but how do the controls work? Because I haven’t set up anything on the developer end. The Default controls are for PC (I never owned a deck or seen one live)
Not with that attitude and optimism…. I play n64 games from my childhood all the time in the worst lag filled lcd tv way possible and it looks horrible. Honestly could care less they are still a ton of fun
I loved the idea and humor of the cult management part. Unfortunately most of the the game is terrible hack and slash dungeon combat. I refunded it after an hour.
Your comparison to Satisfactory makes me think you’re approaching the game with a completely wrong mindset. It’s not supposed to be a chill sandbox playground with no difficulty where you rapidly conquer the planet and build cool stuff. It’s intended to be an engaging survival game with a horror aspect of diving into dark depths and hoping that whatever lurks there doesn’t notice you. It’s meant to be atmospheric, with the threat of starvation, predators and later on some story aspects pushing you to explore further and deeper for materials and tech.
I hope you give the game anoher chance at some point because it really is a one of a kind experience. There’s two things you should be aware of: First, in regards to another comment: there’s no events for you to miss, IDK what that person is saying. There’s two big plot points that happen in a playthrough regardless of your presence. Both of them give you a timer well in advance so you can show up to / observe the place when it happens. Everything else, like all the distress signals or abandoned bases? They’re empty from the start of the game, even if you go there immediatelly nothing will change. You aren’t missing out on anything.
Second, don’t feel bad about missing out on upgrades or whatver. The vast majority of them are sidegrades. The important stuff that you need to progress both spawns much more often than the sidegrades, and you will often find it at the distress signal locations.
You’re absolutely correct, I am approaching it from the wrong mindset. The thing is, I like my crafting games to be chill sandbox games. I have ADHD and am easily distracted, so being dumped into a world where I’m struggling just to survive, and then finding threats everywhere while I’m trying to progress on a build or something… I find myself stressed and unable to focus on progression. So I prefer games that let me go at my own pace, without distractions from the task I’m focusing on.
With Subnautica, I don’t know where to go to progress without spending time exploring and getting distracted along the way. So it will take me hundreds of hours to actually complete the game; time that I rarely dedicate to any single game. And too much time if I’m not having fun along the way.
I’m the same way (also have ADHD). I love Subnautica*'s underwater gameplay and alien moon aesthetic, but I can only really play it in Creative Mode since I really like building bases and exploring without worrying about resources and dying.
(* I have Below Zero instead because I like the snowy aesthetic and playing as a girl 😅)
The crazy part is them giving you the “legend of” in the question. Without it, I could see it being a toss-up for most people. At least they didn’t pick Sonic.
Love this game. Ever since trying the VR mod though I’ve been dying for official support. Imagine using the proper VR controls to pop handbrake and steer the car, would be the most immersive thing!
Still, even with that said if you like the game and have access to a VR headset It’s still worth giving it a go, it really fits the game I think.
I am now reading every goddamn one of these you write. If only the other screenshot posters would put forth your respect and effort, we could have an honest gaming journal going.
The current OP’s posts I tend to skim over, (unless its a game I already played, like this one) cause spoilers. . The other poster has less spoilery posts that I like to read more often (specially the ones he plays with his friends). . To each there own¯_(ツ)_/¯
Thank you! I try to avoid spoilers in mine. I usually use Lemmy’s built in spoiler feature when it’s though inevitable or i really want to share it, but i just recently found out that not every client does spoilers the same way so i think i’ll have to think up some other idea
I usually give a warning in advance that spoilers are upcoming and to skip the next paragraph if you don’t want to read them, then do the spoiler tag for an entire paragraph. That way, even if the spoiler tag doesn’t work, people know to skip the next paragraph to avoid it. Sometimes I’ll even do a full-caps “END OF SPOILERS HERE” to catch eyes and help people skip over them.
That’s what I ended up doing for my Alan Wake II post last night because there was just a lot to talk about with the ending. I figured in clients that don’t support Lemmy’s built in spoiler system though the ::: at the end will tell them where the spoilers end
I’m actually very careful to avoid spoilers in my posts. Sure, I get pretty far into the meat of the gameplay before I end my post… but I do my best to avoid any big reveals that might ruin the game for interested players. And I’ve never revealed the ending to a game.
At best, I’ve posted my speculation for the direction a game’s plot might be headed, based on my incomplete gaming session. But I made it clear it was just a personal guess.
My intent is to get people invested in the story, so when I leave off, they’ll want to go check it out and see what happens next. Besides, some of the best screenshots are from the action in the middle of gameplay. I can’t play 15 mins of a game and expect to make a solid post about it; I need to have some sense of what the game is about, and that requires a bit more exploration into the plot.
Since you’re familiar with Control, you’ll probably notice I left out some pretty big details from nearly the start of the game. You gotta have some unknown plot elements, or else I’m just narrating the first hour of the game, and that’s not fun when you actually go to play it for the first time.
I don’t think I’ve posted this here yet, but I’ve actually been compiling all these posts into a separate blog. As much time and effort as I’ve been putting into them, I’d hate for them to get wiped if this community goes down, or heaven forbid, I got booted by a mod, etc. So you can either follow my posts here in /c/games, or check them out on my blog. I upload them at the same time, so it doesn’t matter where you go to read them.
