Don’t think that’s actually true, though. Edit: top selling games of 2023. Pretty sure the idea that “old games were higher quality” is a example of a cognitive bias, too. I say this as someone that’s been gaming since the 80s.
Agreed. I loved and still love Megaman X. Just replayed it recently and it’s remarkably short. I recall it costing near $70 when we got it. People would be rioting if such a short linear game came out at that price point today, which is why it’s bundled with 3 other games for $20 now.
The people who are vocal and discuss games on the internet are a small fraction of the population that actually buys games. Doesn’t mean there isn’t a market for that stuff. Gaming market is bigger than it’s ever been. Direct delivery makes it incredibly easy for small indie devs to get their games out there. But that’s not the stuff that’s making the most money
Those are new games, right? Okay I actually looked. That article is probably bullshit.
They’re only counting triple-A games and they’re including sports games. Who the hell is actually buying sports games? It’s the same game every year with nothing new really.
I don’t believe that games like Elden ring, mario kart or Jedi survivor aren’t on the top of every chart either.
I just kinds skimmed the article, did they count steam sales? mom-and-pop game stores that sell older games?
I think it’s like old songs, you remember the good ones, discuss them with people, and preserve them. The crap from then is mostly forgotten, so it only appears that they were all great.
The local oldies station summer concert features Vanilla Ice, Tone Loc, Tag Team and some other 90s bands, so now I kind of want to buy a walker and some tennis balls since my childhood is considered oldies.
One of my favorite small Skyrim mods distributed a wedding ring to random nameless NPCs, most of whom were bandits. Not quite the same, but it still added a little depth to encounters and would usually make me say “oh dammit” when I found one. I wish I could find the damn thing.
That’s the one! Thank you so much! That’s going back into my load order - and I really like the other one you linked. Well, not like, but you understand. Totally going to give that a shot as well.
When you’re sneaking around a ruin and draw your poisoned bow on a bandit’s head only to hear her talk about she hates this life but has to feed her two hungry daughters, it hits differently
A classic, for sure. That’s already in my load order along with a bunch more of his (NPCs react to Invisibility/Necromancy are also good) - JaySerpa does excellent work.
If the bandit had a wedding ring in their inventory, that’s no indication that they are the original owner. You have good odds of avenging the death of whoever they took it off of.
True. I remember one time, though, I’d cleared out Silent Moons Camp and was looting the bodies - I found four or five rings. They couldn’t have ALL stolen them, right? I guess part of the fun is making up your own story. But it made me FEEL something after years of clearing bandit camps (I felt like a monster, but still)
Fallout 1 and 2 are god tier. I‘ll throw in planescape as well, since the teaser for it came with Fallout 2 (I think). Like what you want, I like bmovies more than regular movies, but OG fallout is so much better than the skin husk that gets worn these days.
I feel like the dude in the wrestling meme with this post haha, it’s still real to me damnit
I think I remember seeing RCE play the demo of this, I thought it looked like great fun and planned to play it when it released :) Then promptly forgot about it >< But its on my wishlist now.
I looked up the video, the game he actually played was a different one called “The Corridor”
I think you and them both came up with a similar concept, Stanley Parable-like narrative game about pushing a button. And both are described as Stanley Parable-Like about a button, so it looks like I probably confused the two games. I’m still going to get it when its done though.
I’ve actually watched a full playtrough of The Corridor to make sure there aren’t similar stuff and I’m pleased to say both games are very very different. For my game The Button is a starting point but it goes in some very weird directions. Currently working on a new level as we speak :D
