Dave the diver and made the mistake of trying vampire survivors, that thing is fucking addicting to me. Already had a taste of it with halls of torment but this type of game really gives you that “just one more run” feeling

Krauerking,

Man, I just don’t get that from vampire survivors. I loved Binding of Isaac and can’t stand vampire survivor or brotato as the endless waves just seem… Boring and then the builds seem obvious and usually pretty easy to force.

I just never get that pull to do one more round.

numberfour002,

I just started playing Vampire Survivors, how do you force a build in the game? I didn’t even realize it was an option.

Krauerking,

Well you need to grind a bit to unlock stuff and get the gold but you can get the option to reroll and then lancet and laurel are the main things to being practically unkillable with enough leveling.

But for early level seriously just upgrade whip and get the heart. You now heal and do near constant damage. And then get garlic and just work on maxing out any item one at a time. And you will keep going until the waves become bullshit. Keep doing until you literally grind ypur way to buying your way into the end game.

Yay needless grinding.

showmewhatyougot,

That’s the thing, I don’t understand why these games feel so satisfying to play, I have so much good stuff on my library to play and this simple ass game where just pretty much grind your way to the end like you said to the other user is what keeps me entertained

Krauerking,

It’s a chore to do that requires little direct thought or input in a complex world full of too much to do? Seems like it scratches a similar itch to the cosy gamers accept with more fun to the audience that doesn’t like pulling weeds

Returnal

I completed this amazing game, but I’m still trying to complete all the ciphers in the last biome, and it’s taking forever.

@peachfaced@lemmy.world avatar

I got this too and honestly have to say it’s not my type of game. Feels a little repetitive with no goal besides salvaging enough scrap to meet the next quota.

Maybe I’m missing out on some hidden features, but the group plays a bigger role in enjoyment than the game for me.

still Avatar and since I got Alan Wake 2 in the Epic sale I started to replay the original. The free remaster you got with Alan Wake 2 unfortunately has some nasty visual bugs on amd hardware and too often shatters my immersion with glitches and black screens, but since it only ups the assets I’m fine with the original which is still an awesome looking game and perfectly playable in 2023.

How are you finding Avatar?

It looks intriguing for sure though I have heard comments that it’s sort of the typical Ubisoft hunt the icon type game with in Avatar world skin.

avater,
@avater@lemmy.world avatar

I really like it and since there are no Icons or compass it’s really not that type of game. I have the impression that most of the people just repeat the nonsense they heard somewhere.

Yes they are outpost but you don’t have to clear them like in FarCry, you can simply follow the story or some some nice written side quests or just explore the world on your ikran. The traversal through the world is amazing and really well done by massive and on top of that you have an unobtrusive gear and skill system for your character.

So overall the game is really good and gets really amazing if you’re a fan of the movies or the world.

I’m playing a game called “eat and drink my childhood trauma.”

xelareko,

I heard this has a pretty rough beginning, but it all turns out okay by the end.

Bruncvik, do games w i made a speadsheet to get through my backlog a while ago and today i hit my milestone for the year.
@Bruncvik@lemmy.world avatar

I lost count of the number of games in my backlog, so a while ago I tried a similar spreadsheet. Mainly to stop me from replaying game I already finished multiple times and focusing on others instead. However, that felt too close to work instead of fun, so I gave up and went back to my favourite classics.

Druid_,
@Druid_@lemmy.world avatar

yeah i really feel that. according to steam i have 220 hours in resident evil 4 just replaying it over again or playing mods for it etc. having done my spreadsheet i’ve really felt a sense of completion when i complete games. i felt it heavier on games i spent more time on as apposed to games with like 15 hours.

edit: just checked my steam and my most played game is starbound at 264.8 hours and i’ve only completed it once and played modded the few times after.

I’d recommend pushing through on Undertale. I have 19 hours played and I did all runs/endings. The first playthrough is probably under 6 hours total. One of the most memorable games I’ve ever played.

@Druid_@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah I plan on finishing undertale after I finish doom since I’m probably much closer to finishing that than I am undertale

I actually just finished playing Dredge. It was a lot of fun, though not as horrifying as I had hoped.

sissi,

I am playing dredge right now! Very close to finishing the main quest, just want to get some more fish under my belt eheh. I agree that it hasn’t quite been horrifying but I think they did a great job at “creepy” and at creating the circumstances to make you a more reckless fisherman the longer you play (every time I sleep through the day I remember the mayor telling me how unreliable the previous fisherman was bc he slept through the day to go out at night…)

Borderlands 2! Graphics may not be hyperrealistic but the artstyle is amazing, not to mention the fact it can run on pretty much any setup (even a PS Vita)

nogooduser,

It was amazing on PSVR with the aim controller.

BmeBenji,

I played the shit out of Borderlands 2 until I realized it really wasn’t fun. The guns and stuff are cool, but the shooting feedback wasn’t satisfying enough to justify continuing. Then Borderlands 3 came out and improved in every way on the core mechanics and I was too tired of Borderlands 2 to care. I really wish BL3 came out like 5 years sooner.

In a bit of a gaming rut right now. Spinning my wheels on a bunch of different games. Haven’t had one hook its claws back into me yet.

I’ve been mostly grinding out Cookie Clicker and Slay the Spire this week.

Nice games to play side by side while I binge blind Let’s Plays of Hollow Knight, Outer Wilds, and Return of the Obra Dinn so I can vicariously chase the fleeting joy and wonder I got from playing those games the first time around.

Finished most of the tasks to do in The Longing and now just waiting for the clock to tick down.

Sat down one evening with my old save file and pushed through to finish the Tears of the Kingdom main quest. For all its faults, it had a really strong ending. I cried. Very conflicted on the game, but I don’t have anything to say that hasn’t already been said ad nauseum.

Played a bit of Dark Souls, a bit of Sekiro, a bit of Kingdoms of Amalur, a bit of Subnautica: Below Zero, and a bit of Siralim. Not sure what I’ll settle on yet for next week, but I’m feeling strongest on Siralim right now.

Donut,

Have you played Inscryption? Going in blind might appease you

Okami_No_Rei,

I have! I’ve finished the base game and started on Kaycee’s Mod a while back. I’m really bad at it, but it’s fun.

I’m considering picking up Signalis if it goes on sale over Christmas. I’ve heard it scratches the same itch as Outer Wilds.

I finished Chants of Sennaar a couple nights ago, it was a lot of fun. Language-based puzzle game inspired by the Tower of Babel. It’s very pretty to look at, and a lot of the puzzles were really clever. My only real complaint is that I was really expecting the final level to be much more difficult, requiring me to do a lot of synthesizing of ideas from previous levels, but instead the final puzzles were pretty easy and linear. I’d still recommend it though, the first 80% of the game is great, and if you get that far, you’ll probably have the momentum to finish, the end doesn’t take that long.

Hello_there, do games w The Weekly 'What are you playing?' Discussion

Holocure is a surprisingly good survivors-like and it works perfectly on steam deck with no changes. Just don't change resolution on PC to something sd can't handle.

Starayo,
@Starayo@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, I’m not even particularly into hololive besides very occasionally watching some highlight videos. The game is amazing. And free. I played the absolute hell out of it after giving it a shot, just like I did with vampire survivors.

Fallout 4. Modded up the wazoo with the StoryWealth collection.

Reminds me of New Vegas and the originals games now. Far more content and things to randomly discover. Not just tacky boob mods.

Gave Fallout 76 a shot again after trying it early in it’s release and quitting due the travesty it was (also because I was disappointed in Starfield). It’s good now, very similar feel to 4 though with some differences. It’s a Fallout game so not perfect but the feeling of endless possibilities you get when stepping out of the vault for the first time is classic Fallout.
