Not true. You get personal ownership of the media in it, and even if ripped, you can personally keep it without “unauthorised distribution”. These were the 2 keywords they used to use on the rim of every disc. DRM implementations were a method to prevent ripping, but ripping always happens with DVDFab.
Streaming prevents that ripping part, or having it on your personal storage, and the ability to play it forever without an expiration date. The obvious purpose behind it is to gatekeep any media to repeatedly buy it and “consoom”. And some of the streaming DRM these days (fuck you Netutv/hqq) prevents 1:1 stream ripping, so screen recording is the only way, or using a HDMI cable with recording output capabilities.
Some basic things to note, that may or may not be obvious.
Producers and shareholders are the ones still thinking gaming audience can be milked at the same rate as the past few decades.
The alternative to current model of game launch + DLCs/features added over the year is that the game is not launched at all until ready and full featured.
Gamer audience is privileged, consumerist and impatient. And most of the audience is either autistic or neurodivergent with impulsive and/or compulsive disorders, and have unstable hyperfocus and obsession issues.

I am neurodivergent, am ex-pro gamer and I have spent enough time gaming as a teen to know the thought processes gamers go through. Remember, we are the first generation to have played these modern games that were not just 8-bit.
You have no clue how ADHD or other neurological disorders get accelerated due to video games of various kinds. Many other conditions like epilepsy, vertigo also get accelerated or triggered.
If you play the game beyond what would be a trial/demo (equivalent of first chapter/level content), yes you would be. And the fact is, basically everyone is okay being an asshole, because the demographic of video games cannot ask their parents for thousands of dollars every year, at the rate they complete each game. Most video game pirates are either completionists, collectors or speedrunners.
I would say though the differentiator is video games that have practically stopped selling (pre 2007 and retro) and their companies that have gone bankrupt/defunct/extinct, in which case it does not matter at all, as the creators no longer earn money from the game.
Many unreasonable people that claim DRM is bad for performance, disguise the argument that all DRM is as evil and bad for performance as Denuvo is. Arguments need to be honest, so call DRM what it is. Masking arguments makes them weaker.
I am inclined to say CounterStrike has been “enshittified” with the removal of GO, and version 2 being made. CS2 seems to be GPU reliant, as opposed to every single CS/HL title before that used to run atleast no stutters 80-100 fps even on a midrange laptop from 5-6 years ago with no GPU.
This is a sad moment, and probably the death of probably what was the last great gaming title that democratised competitive gaming.

Thankfully I grew old just in time to have quit gaming for a few years now, and no longer need to bother with it. I will play my good old Mario Forever community fanmakes, NES/SNES games, those pre 2008 PC games once a week.
Requiring better hardware for an almost insignificant upgrade (high quality smoke textures, bullet poking through smokescreens), compared to previous version of the game (CSGO) that can run at 80 fps with a common midrange 2016 laptop CPU (i5-7200U) and no GPU, absolutely counts as enshittification.

No, the argument is CS has been CPU reliant before CS2. This is what should have been kept, allowing for democratised CS gaming even on potatos, which has been a tradition since forever. CS2 seems to have been made GPU reliant, which is the reason for reported performance differences from CSGO.
This is the basis of my argument.
CS is not a game or a competitive FPS, it is a tradition, unlike most games. It is what Unreal or Tekken or KOF or many Arcade classics used to be.
