etchinghillside, do games w Do people actually starve themselves to play games like World of Warcraft?

Some people that play MMOs rely solely on government disability as an income.

echodot,

I’ve seen how much people get on disability, I don’t understand how it would even be possible to live on it. It’s barely possible to live on it when people are using it to buy food, pay rent and stuff they need. To buy food and games, no chance, they must have some other supplemental income, even if it’s just from sympathetic family members.

etchinghillside,

EBT/SNAP could be used for food. But you’re correct - the cases of this I’ve come across with guild members it seems they are paired up with an equally not thriving SO or are in a relatives spare bedroom.

I played heavily back in the day I don’t think the money was ever really the problem It was the time. When I finally settled down and had a family I had to stop. $15 a month for service and $50 every 2 years for DLC isn’t really all that much money If you consider 60 hours a week of entertainment for that price a deal. If you are that close to the edge you’re going to be on the edge anyway.

If you have a choice of buying food for a month or buying a video game, and you choose the video game, I am not sure the problem is with the game.

Not having enough in-game smut is a bigger issue.

echodot,

There’s definitely some problem with their critical thinking skills.

It’s not like the game is going to become unavailable at some point you can save up and get it later there’s no risk with doing that.

Sylvartas,

FOMO can be a bitch for some people. The fact that it is so widely exploited in tech/videogames is no coincidence

You play many games.

MyNameIsAtticus,
@MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world avatar

i’ll probably be sticking with NV for a while since it fits with my schedule (except for multiplayer games i play with friends, i tend to give those priority over single player games)

Lost_My_Mind,

If you have a way to play NES games you should play “Cyberstadium Series: Basewars”.

Yes, it’s a lengthy title. But basically, it’s robots playing baseball. And if they get on base safely, they’re safe. But if you throw them out, the robots fight each other. And if the out robot wins, he’s safe. If the out robot loses, he’s out!

And you can upgrade your robots like mechs. You win baseball games, you get cash. You spend the cash on robot upgrades. Now you can fight better, throw faster, hit baseballs harder.

Yes, I like the game. How did you know?

Man I want to replay New Vegas, all the DLC was so good.

i’ve been itching to get back to it. i’m glad i finally fixed the bug i was having with VATS

PunchingWood, do games w Do people actually starve themselves to play games like World of Warcraft?

It’s not exclusive to MMO games or anything. Although I do get the addiction of MMO games, I still play WoW but I used to have phases of playing it at unhealthy amounts of time (like over 12 years ago), but only as long as I could afford throwing money away.

The amount of times I’ve seen beggars show up on social media when a new game launches is ridiculous. Like dude, if you can’t afford gaming then you should seriously have other priorities in liffe, and probably spend the time you’d game on more productive things. Like work, to be able to afford stuff like gaming in the first place.

Minnels,

Imagine saving money before a game releases. Oh no.

Whose your favorite out of all the doctors at the Big MT?

MyNameIsAtticus,
@MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world avatar

So far, it’s Mobius. I liked Klein a lot too though.

LemmySoloHer,
@LemmySoloHer@lemmy.world avatar

Mobius is pretty fascinating and Klein is hilarious! They all have their own quirky charm that makes them all fun to interact with, though I’m partial to Dr. 0 simply because it’s the same guy that voiced Dr. Venture on The Venture Bros. and the Wild Wasteland trait has him reference the “giant walking eye” as a nod to the show.

Damn, there’s my reminder to watch Venture Bros. I always mean to give it a try but never get around to it

For the love of god, dude… Use stimpack & rad away ASAP

MyNameIsAtticus,

i’m all out. I’ve been healing consistently off of nuts i got in Honest Hearts and mole rat meat, my chosen play style of shooting things with a grenade launcher has been more of a curse than anything.

devilish666,

Crafting auto stimpack should help beating the game easier
I always stocking medicine & drugs especially when i played DEAD MONEY DLC . Hmm…you should use Portable tent mod for easy access to all your needs without sacrifice your carry weight, it’s configurable via terminal inside tent
With that mod you can loot everything without worrying about carry weight

MyNameIsAtticus,
@MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world avatar

I considered mods, but I’m using Linux and my modding experience with Skyrim was a headache so I vowed no more for Bethesda games. Dead money I’m dreading though. I’m already struggling with Roboscorpions so I may spend a few days grabbing as many Stimpaks and Healing supplies as possible after getting back (and fixing my ranger gear and pistol so I’m not relying on a grenade launcher)

devilish666,

Easy fix then, don’t install FNV + MO2/VORTEX/NMM + WryeBash/FNVEdit/BodySlide with Lutris, install it with Bottle, don’t forget to install both FNV + <insert_your_favorite_mod_manager_here> + modding tools inside one single bottle
In case of Skyrim from experience everything works with Bottle except FNIS (everytime i generate animation with FNIS it throw error & i don’t know why)

The disc is 100% trash. People that buy this want the cards, keychains, and (especially) the exclusive in-game items.

I am surprised that it doesn’t also come with some in-game premium currency, though.

As for $40 in-game… That alone is going to net you some trash. You’ll pull a lot more on the free gems you get just for exploring and playing. Sure, you could get a great character, but the odds are back-loaded so that you generally won’t pull a 5-star in the first 70 pulls. $40 is like 40 pulls, maybe?

Coelacanth,
@Coelacanth@feddit.nu avatar

$40 is like 40 pulls, maybe?

It depends on how you spend it. The best bang for the buck top-up pack - the $99 one - works out to about 20 pulls per $40 (this includes first-time purchase bonus). If you spent your $40 on the $5 monthly subscription (and logged in every day to claim it) it would work out to 160 pulls for your $40 - but it would take you 8 months to claim.

Grangle1,

Yeah, at least some in-game currency is really the least they could have done if you’re gonna pay money to just get the base game to begin with since it’s F2P (pay-to-win) otherwise. Complete waste of money even for people who play and regularly spend money on these types of games.

Buttflapper,

People that buy this want the cards, keychains, and (especially) the exclusive in-game items.

Yeah, but at that rate, why not just launch a store then and sell those items? Blizzard has their own store. Plenty of franchises do. It’s so weird to see a disc version of a free game. Can you imagine if fortnite did that? I don’t remember if they ever had a disc version of their game, but if they did launch one today, people would be scratching their heads

wccrawford,

Honestly, free-2-play economics are so baffling that nothing they do surprises me.

There’s a Genshin Impact McDonalds collab where you have to buy a very specific happy meal to get some in game wings (which I very much want) and some other garbage. I actually considered just buying the meal and giving the food to someone else (homeless?) because I can’t eat that crap on my diet. But instead, I settled for telling everyone around me that I want the code if they get one, and I’ll just hope.

How does that help Genshin Impact? I imagine it helps in the same way as this nonsense physical copy. People get excited about physical copies, even in normal boxes, and they get excited about exclusive items that can’t be obtained any other way. That pulls in a little money directly from the sales of the plastic, but it also creates a ton of buzz around the game like this whole thread.

I think. As I said, it’s pretty baffling. I have to file it under “there’s no such thing as bad PR” most of the time.
