I don’t really like looking at men. Yeah, the Witcher games are pretty alright but Geralt is kind of boring for me to watch. Given a choice between watching a buff dude throw a goblin at another goblin in bg3, or a buff woman do the same? Probably want to see the woman. Maybe it’s just low grade ambient horniness.

I never think of the character in a game as “me”. I had a friend who would always make himself. White guy with short hair and a short beard. That’s not for me. I don’t want to watch myself get blown up, stabbed, eaten by a dragon, whatever.

I don’t like when games feel like they’re just giving me eye candy or lazy titillation, though.The whole bikini armor thing I’m not into. Someone else mentioned they hate heels. Same.

DeadMartyr, do gaming w Male players: Why do you play female characters?

Female outfits are typically more interesting, like in GTA maybe it’s not as bad but I’m tired of every endgame male armor in rpgs of MMOs being a guy in a giant mountain of metal. It doesn’t look “badass” it looks stupid and bland. (On the flip side bikini armor is also stupid)

That and female voices are just more… appealing? Idk the science behind it but there’s a reason AI assistants are like 95% female voices.

lolcatnip,

Idk the science behind it but there’s a reason AI assistants are like 95% female voices.

That varies a lot by country.

It's such a shame, I really hope Ernest is ok. And I guess the once again lesson here is something like this needs a dev team and not just one person.

That’s about where I am, honestly. I’m starting to look for alternatives.

I can deal with the site having the occasional problem, but I can’t deal with absolutely no communication at all when things break down. Kbin has gotten too big to be a one-person operation.

This is now the fourth post I’ve seen about people starting to get fed up, and honestly, you know people are starting to hit their limits once people start making posts about their frustrations. I bet a lot of folks have just quietly given up or moved to lemmy or mbin because they’ve gotten frustrated with all the issues.

I’m a pretty patient person and can put up with a lot of goofiness on a site, as long as there’s some kind of communication happening. But there’s none.

Osa-Eris-Xero512,

I was at that point last week and ended up biting the bullet and migrating my subscriptions over to this account. Really wish there was a first class account migration tool available though.

Osa-Eris-Xero512,

Lol, i thought it was the other account. Well, goes to show the mbin instances are pretty much the same. I ended up with kbin.run

@stopthatgirl7 Same. I poked around beehaw a bit, but I am not sure its is good fit for me. Think I will check out lemmy.world, they seem to be really communicative on mastodon during their upgrade process.

But that's all I know about it. I am looking into mbin,too...but I really don't much about it.

I have been spending most of my social media time on mastodon lately.

I guess it's not quiet once I post this, but I submitted the account deletion request a couple weeks back and spent some time setting my feedly back up after 1 too many spam posts. I'm already getting my scrolling fix from rss feeds again, and this is the first time I've been on kbin in a week.

It doesn't help that whenever this comes up there's a contingent of users who jump to Ernest's "defense" by calling the folks raising these issues "concern trolls" and accusing them of shilling for mbin.

No, this is simply a matter of what is actually working well. The point of federation is that one shouldn't need to have "loyalty" to any particular instance or any particular platform. Use whichever one's working.

HubertManne,

Thats not what you describe. Troll is used the way you did in my response to you. A reference to other people trolling in some other threads. Not accusations of the main post being a troll. At least that is the way im reading it. I guess I just assume your first comment was refering to more blatant type posts or replies.

@OpenStars@kbin.social avatar

I bet a lot of folks have just quietly given up or moved to lemmy or mbin because they’ve gotten frustrated with all the issues.

I made an alt two months ago when Kbin would never connect. I have barely been back since, so it is now my main. I hoped Kbin would come out if its slump but... that seems unlikely at this point. I'm actually quite happy on Lemmy, especially after the v0.19 upgrade allows blocking of an entire instance. I personally virtually never see any spam (maybe one comment per month) and while connection issues do occur, they are like a handful per week rather than handful per hour (it varies a lot though, sometimes it does get bad for a day or two and then weeks go by without a hitch).

I avoided the initial hurdle of making a Lemmy account for so long and, while it was super annoying, in retrospect it wasn't that bad, compared to all the other problems here and still having to go through all that, eventually.

If anyone is thinking about switching: don't worry unduly about it, just make an account and see if you like it, but you can always keep your Kbin active too, assuming Kbin remains alive.

Also, you may need to try out a few places before you find one that fits you best. But that reduces your anxiety bc you know more and don't need to worry about having to do it again in a worst-case scenario.

falsem, (edited )

Considering his last post was about going to the hospital for a few days, over a month ago, I suspect he's not okay.

Regardless, I just cancelled my $5/mo donation towards the development of the kbin software. Seeing as how there hasn't been any development in over a month.

t3rmit3, do gaming w As a long time Armored Core fan, I am disappointed with Armored Core VI.

I agree 10000%. This is Souls with robots, not Armored Core.

What’s even more upsetting is that the reviews I read claim exactly the opposite, but you jump into mission 1 and there’s a giant gunship that will 2-shot you, and you have no ability to customize your mech, so you’re right from the outset being told that build means nothing about outcome.

I’m not surprised the Souls fans love this game since they don’t know any better, but I am very disappointed in FROM.

Pxtl,
@Pxtl@lemmy.ca avatar

I think most AC games pretty much dump you into the first missions with a stock mech. AC6 is only distinct in that the first mission is so long and includes a comparatively-difficult boss-fight.

t3rmit3,

Yes, in most of them the first mission is just a short tutorial, before they turn you loose in the actual game (mech creation).

tochee,

(never played an AC game before) The lesson I took from the tutorial boss is that you should use the right weapon for the job, i.e. the build matters a lot. I wasn’t getting anywhere with anything but the sword.

KoboldCoterie,
@KoboldCoterie@pawb.social avatar

I had this same experience. The gunship dies in 3 melee hits. I can only conclude that all the people whining about how unreasonably difficult it is are either just not moving around at all, or are trying to stay on the ground and gun it down.

t3rmit3,

It’s funny how you turned, “this is not AC” into “[this is] unreasonably difficult”. Despite what the Souls crowd seem to keep responding with, this is not a complaint about difficulty, it’s a complaint about where the difficulty lies.

Souls-like games place their difficulty in adapting your movement and timing. That’s what this game does.

AC used to place it’s difficulty in planning. You had thousands of combinations of weapons, movement styles, distances, etc, so you could find many different ways to beat a boss, not just one. “Just fly up and hit it with the melee weapon while you dodge around” is the dumbed-down version of AC.

KoboldCoterie,
@KoboldCoterie@pawb.social avatar

I was not referring to you specifically, but rather the significant number of people complaining about the difficulty of that encounter - take a look at the negative Steam reviews, for instance - at least when I was looking at them a day or two ago, about 30-40% of them mentioned that specific fight as being too hard. I’ve also seen it mentioned in a review, which is just unreal to me.

To respond to you directly, though… You seem to want the PS1 / PS2 era AC, which I don’t think this is trying to be. You even note that AC4 and AC5 started to skew away from that; why would you assume that AC6 would be a return to the “old ways”, rather than a continuation of the evolution they’d already started?

I’d also note that the ‘Fly up and hit it with the melee weapon’ boss is the tutorial boss in the first mission, before you get the ability to customize your AC, so your argument is kind of misplaced there.

t3rmit3,

You can use “fly up and hit it with a sword” for 95% of AC6.

That is not “AC” in the traditional sense, and while obviously FROM can make whatever game they want, it’s disappointing to me that they turned it into Sekirobot, but with shorter and less interesting maps, and basically no lore.

As to why I thought it was a return to OG form, as I mentioned in my response to OP, I read multiple reviews which said it did exactly that. That’s not FROM’s fault, but it does suck.

KoboldCoterie,
@KoboldCoterie@pawb.social avatar

I don’t think FromSoft ever stated that it was a return to OG form. Reviewers say all kinds of things (including that the tutorial boss is too punishing, heh).

You’re obviously free to dislike the game, though; I’ve been having a great time with it, but I also didn’t come into the experience expecting (or even hoping for, really) AC1/2/3, so maybe that’s got something to do with it. Is it different? Yes, absolutely, but it’s still fun.

t3rmit3,

Yes, and that is not AC. There is not one correct weapon for the job, there should be many different combinations of tactics, weapons, movement styles, etc. The build didn’t matter, because “the sword can kill everything” is not a “build”, but it’s true in AC6.

Want to one-shot the giant mechs at the expense of agility to handle small ones? Turn your AC into a massive lumbering build with a stupid-big cannon. Want to snipe stuff from halfway across the map, in exchange for a 20-second reload? Or make your AC able to fly for minutes on end, at the expense of only having a lightweight shotgun and blade, and barely any armor? No problem.

You could do those and tons more, and they all have trade-offs, and none of them work for every mission. That is AC.

There is no variance here, it’s all just Dark Souls-like dodge-fighting. You could keep the same build from mission 1 and beat the game, and that’s not “difficulty” in the AC sense.

I don't relate with masculine characters at all. No idea why as I don't identify as a woman. I have very little association or ownership of my gender.

Also character creators traditionally don't have a ton of options beyond the binary. Hair, pronoun options tend to be most of the extent.

Also feminine bodies tend to be more interesting. More curves and interesting shapes while a lot of masculine bodies are rendered as blocky.
