Perfide, do gaming w Starfield and Baldur’s Gate 3 Revive Age-Old RPG Debate About Encumbrance

I get the complaint with starfield since transferring stuff to your companions or ship is such a pain with their awful UI, but it’s not even an issue in BG3.

99% of the time my party members have plenty of room to store all my shit, and in the rare occasion they don’t it’s a sign I have tons of shit to sell. On the even rarer occasion I run out of room in a situation where I can’t easily leave, I can just send my extra crap to camp. Mind you, besides Shadowheart(Str 18) me and my party members all have base strength.

hh93,

The only thing annoying with BG3 is that “sell all wares” only refers to those at the current character

I’d have liked it if stuff marked as wares would always be automatically distributed between the characters (or that there was a button to do this)

Also why can I select multiple items at once and move them between characters but not mark multiple items as wares?

Why can’t I save that every cup I pick up should go to wares automatically?

I feel as if BG3 could’ve made the whole carrying thing far less annoying with ways to do less inventory management

Lowbird,

You can multi-select items and mark them all as wares at once, just only for one character at a time. I agree all wares should be pooled between characters though, or we should have the option at least.

Texas_Hangover,

Thanks for reiterating that.

DudeBro, do gaming w Starfield and Baldur’s Gate 3 Revive Age-Old RPG Debate About Encumbrance

I really wish Baldur’s Gate 3 had a shared party inventory. It’s already partway there, I can still move a potion from Astarion’s inventory to Shadowheart’s inventory now matter how far apart they are. It’d just be nice if I could save a few minutes of inventory sorting if everyone just pulled from one mega inventory that added everyone’s encumberence together. The way its implemented now just adds several unneccessary steps that don’t even matter because of the magic pocket system.

Pyr_Pressure, do gaming w Final Fantasy 16 Producer Naoki Yoshida Wishes There Was Only One Console - IGN
@Pyr_Pressure@lemmy.ca avatar

What exactly is it that prevents a PlayStation from playing an Xbox game?

A dell PC can play the same games that an Acer can.

Why can’t we have some sort of standardized console operating system like android where different companies can design their own console systems all of which can play the same games?

Oh, is it simply because of capitalist proprietary bullshit? Okay that’s fine.

NuPNuA,

That model has been tried in the past and it didn’t work because no one was making any licensing costs from the games produced to pump into R&D to progress the platform. Remember the 3D0?

The reason a PS can’t play an Xbox game is because Sony don’t have access or the legal right to implement the hardware or software environment that MS have patented for the Xbox.

jmcs,

Except Valve is doing with the Steam deck. And if Google could be bothered to take it seriously, Android could also be a contender.

NuPNuA,

The Steam Deck is a PC at the end of the day though which has always been a different model. They still lock the main OS to their store despite it being more open if you want to dig deeper.

MonkderZweite,

What, emulating x86 games on Android?

MrMagnesium12,
@MrMagnesium12@feddit.de avatar

The latest Xbox and PS consoles are basically x86 PC’s with a AMD CPU and a locked down operating system. The Xbox uses a system based on Windows 10 (games are running in separate OS containers, basically Window VMs in HyperV) and the PS is using Sony’s Orbis OS, what based upon FreeBSD.

NuPNuA,

None of which changes the fact that the console market is driven by platform holders selling consoles for low profit or even a loss and making it up on the back end with their cut of all games, accessories, etc released for the format.

Would I be able to play my entire existing steam library on this or…?

Anissem,
@Anissem@lemmy.ml avatar

I want a SteamDeck 2 so bad I’ve been eyeing these clones.

theunknownmuncher,

I have the original and passed on upgrading to the OLED. It really hasn’t shown much age at all, yet. I’m not really playing AAA or demanding titles on it, anyway, and it works perfectly for all of the games I do want to play on it. I figure the limiting factor will be the battery, and that seems to be just as good as it was new.

The clones aren’t acceptable replacements to me, they are more of handheld-consoles than handheld-PCs. If it doesn’t have touchpads, I don’t want it, period.

Anissem,
@Anissem@lemmy.ml avatar

I also have the original and really should just be happy with it as it suites my needs. Never had an OLED screen so it’s mostly just that I suppose. Was debating the screen upgrade as well but the install video was a bit much for me. Going to keep my money for whatever hardware is next for Valve. Really would love to see Index 2 this year.

Dremor,
@Dremor@lemmy.world avatar

Until recently I’d have agreed with you, but some recently released games (like E33) are either locked to very low settings (and still has bad framerate despite that), or even run like shit (Sword of the Sea) even on low.

So yeah, I’m kinda feeling the need for an upgrade right now, and as much as I hate Microsoft, depending on how it will cost I may be tempted… If it runs Bazzite well.

theunknownmuncher,

I dunno, I don’t play these games. The most demanding game I play on steam deck is Oblivion Remastered which runs fine with upscaling/framegen and lowish settings. The nostalgia factor makes low settings totally fine for this game, too, so its not a big deal. Anything game where I want great graphics and performance, I’ll just play on my desktop.

For $900 you could literally just build a decent desktop, but you do you

Dremor,
@Dremor@lemmy.world avatar

I do already have a pretty powerfull desktop already (5800X3D, 32 Go RAM and RX 6800), but I just love the Deck form factor.
Especially that now I can play at work, which makes my noon brake a lot less boring. It is kinda harder to bring my desktop around 😅.

theunknownmuncher,

Thanks, I literally just looked this up and saw that is supposedly the case. That’s very surprising to me. At least it has that

NOT_RICK,
@NOT_RICK@lemmy.world avatar

Microsoft seems to be throwing in the towel as far as driving people to their storefront is concerned. They’ll be putting out all their games on anything that can run them.

theunknownmuncher,

I’d argue this is not really the case, and their strategy has shifted to increasing the price of actually “owning” games to be a premium experience, ie all their new games are now $80, making subscription prices seem more attractive

Aielman15,
@Aielman15@lemmy.world avatar

They rolled back the $80 increase when they noticed that people weren’t going to buy Outer Worlds 2 at that price point. They then confirmed that their games will stay at $70 for the foreseeable future (ie. until a bigger player normalized $80 games).

NOT_RICK,
@NOT_RICK@lemmy.world avatar

They walked back the $80 price point, but I definitely agree they’re trying to figure out ways to push people to gamepass. They just keep stepping on rakes

ZoteTheMighty,

sculd, do gaming w The Elder Scrolls Online Dev's Unannounced MMO Was Doing Well and Even Scaling Up as Xbox Cancelation Blindsided Staff

For more context, Bloomberg also reported on this:

Xbox Executives Were Blown Away by an Upcoming Game. Then They Canceled It.

bloomberg.com/…/microsoft-s-xbox-cancels-blackbir…

No paywall version: archive.ph/daYYd

But Blackbird’s cancellation was particularly shocking because it had blown away executives at Xbox just a few months ago. During the demonstration in March, Spencer was enjoying the game so much that Matt Booty, the head of Xbox Game Studios, had to pull the controller away so they could keep the meeting going, according to two people who were in the room.

This is a game that even Spencer was enjoying and then they just cancelled it. I have no word.

Manapany,

I will play the devil advocate here, but a mmo in this economy ? Very little chance to succeed event if it’s good. I’m not saying canceling it was a good call, we will never know. But I can understand that being blow away is maybe not even enough for a live service to be good.

Nighed,
@Nighed@feddit.uk avatar

We don’t even know it’s business model, they all want live service games right?

Feels strange, especially for a dev that has actually made a modern and (apparently) profitable MMO.

Midnitte,

I mean, WoW still chugging along - it makes so much money from cosmetics they could probably ditch the subscription fee…

Manapany,

Yeah and good job trying to compete with that !

Midnitte,

Well Microsoft owns Blizzard, so I guess they don’t really need to compete

Manapany,

Of course they compete even if they are the same company. For a game to be profitable it need to attract consumers if you take it from another of your product that not good. Even more reason to shut it down imo. Why bother create a new IP a new community and risking to loose big, when you can put resources on your other product that already have that.

sculd,

The MMO market is still big, just not as big as its used to. A MMO by a successful team has a much better chance than most games.

I’m not a huge fan honestly. I think the stylized graphics are a better fit for the genre, and you get into uncanny valley a lot faster with realistic graphics.

But I mean, that’s just MY taste, I’m not going to tell anyone else what to think.

redhorsejacket,

Higher fidelity for sure, as one would expect when comparing games released 10 years apart, but idk if it’s “better” per se. Of course this is totally subjective, but I feel like there’s no style to inZoi, unless we define “generic AI output” as a style.

I hate this but if it’s just cosmetics and the game price is fair I’ll be ok with it. I know the price is going to be a full on AAA release and they will still cram this into it… but I can hope.

Cris16228,

It should, according to other, be free to play

The price is nothing, apparently the game is free to play.

It'd be pretty suprising if it didn't have microtransactions.

Man, that's a fair point. If you want to be mad at something be mad at the five year dev cycle into an early access launch. I'm not even saying it's the devs or EA's fault. Making games is hard. And expensive. But definitely hard.
