    I mean, nothing stops you from just getting a pool going and then buying in more cost effective quantities

    TheOakTree,

    I have participated in this with PCBs for keyboards and gamecube controllers (PhobGCC). It worked fine, but YMMV.

    It’s not very expensive to order 5 boards.

    I just want a gameboy advance sp i can run some emulators on

    EddyNottingham,

    That’s the dream!

    NewNewAccount,

    I bought a Retroid Flip and have been really happy with it. I grew up with the game boy and have owned pretty much every iteration. Authentic is good but I think the utility of the android-based handheld can’t be beat. Especially given the high cost of the originals.

    nix,
    @nix@merv.news avatar

    Looks nice but thats more of a DS than an SP

    bingbong,

    Same but a Nintendo DS

    can,

    Flash cart?

    nix,
    @nix@merv.news avatar

    Looks like the Retroid Flip is what you’re looking for

    bingbong,

    Close! But I was hoping for something with 2 physical screens like the DS had, it’s probably a pain to implement though

    nix,
    @nix@merv.news avatar

    Oh yeah i forgot about that. Then your best bet is to get a flashcart for a ds or for a 3ds. You can play emulators on them.

    Kingofthezyx,

    3DS can emulate DS, my 2DS running homebrew can emulate DS, GBA, and everything prior. It’s pretty cool.

    Delorean623,

    I got a RG353VS off Amazon a few months back and am loving it. Good speakers, beautiful screen, USB C charging… It came preloaded with a bunch of games.

    nix,
    @nix@merv.news avatar

    That’s not the form factor of an SP though :/ I want it to be able to close so it fits nicely in my pocket

    Nice!

    You could actually already buy completely custom boards for a few GameBoy models, only transplanting the SoC from an original board.

    But those are sold with an unjustifiably high profit margin, by the “loved by the community but actually quite shady” retro modding stores.

    Are they well known? Glad this effort exists.

    caseyweederman,

    I keep seeing their name on cool projects, and they’re featured on RetroModding.

    good_girl,
    @good_girl@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

    Yeah, they released a few custom pcbs for Gameboy mods. I think the most recent one was a gameboy color to gameboy pocket retrofit pcb

    RubberElectrons,
    @RubberElectrons@lemmy.world avatar

    Wow that’s nuts. I never would’ve guessed we would be here, able to just order PCBs when I was a kid.

    Yeah the gameboy mod scene is wild (and can get expensive real fast)

    Is this any different from Windows suspend/resume? The feature built into task manager seems to free up RAM on the system.

    Thank you for edit OP. I was wondering if this would be a good solution to trying to play 3 mins of Dark Souls while waiting for my rocket league teammates to join up. If I run two games at once my PC usually freaks the fuck out.

    (still a cool app, thanks for the link)

    Also I just noticed this is a crosspost, oops.

    wim, do games w Nyrna - a Linux/Windows tool to suspend/resume games and applications

    I made a similar thing a couple of years ago, but there is no UI or configurability: github.com/wvdschel/pause_process

    clanginator,

    Nice! If I wasn’t using the custom hotkey I’d jump to this for sake of keeping things lightweight. Thanks for sharing.

    wim,

    It has a global hotkey, but it’s hardcoded to the pause button (Fn+P on most keyboards that lack a pause button).

    clanginator,

    Yeah, I just use pause for music, and I have a macropad with f13-18 so I just set one to trigger suspend.

    wim,

    Makes sense.

    At some point I thought about CRIU

    rikudou, do games w Nyrna - a Linux/Windows tool to suspend/resume games and applications
    @rikudou@lemmings.world avatar

    I’d love that integrated into Steam Deck.

    LiveLM,

    Not the same as native integration, but there is a decky plugin that does this:
    github.com/popsUlfr/SDH-PauseGames

    rikudou,

    Thanks, will check it out!

    I recently found out that a game I played froze when my pc went into auto suspend. Does this help with it too? Thanks for making this.

    clanginator,

    I maybe wasn’t clear, I didn’t make this, I just found it and figured folks here could benefit from knowing about it!

    But no clue if it’ll help with that, worth a shot tho.

    Haui,
    @Haui@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

    Thanks for clearing that up. Thanks for sharing then. Maybe someone else knows this.

    ogeist,

    According to the FAQ it doesn’t help for your case. But they suggest another too. Maybe give that a look.

    Haui,
    @Haui@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

    Thanks! Will do!

    Dyskolos,

    No, it won’t help. It just suspends a task and going into sleep then won’t help. Maybe disable suspend and change to hibernation. This would work. You most likely would need to enable it first:

    Powercfg /h on

    On a commandline.

    You can try out easily with e. G. Procexp from sysinternals (a great Taskmanager-replacement too!). You can just suspend your game and try it.

    Haui,
    @Haui@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

    Thanks for the tipp! Currently, I have a bit of a problem with hibernation. My proprietary gpu driver sends me to blackscreen and forces me to hard reboot. So that I might need to fix first. :)

    I had this game originally on some CD with a bunch of Apogee games. This was before I had developed the concept of money, so I didn’t know how to get more levels that were teased at the end of the shareware, but it was nevertheless my favorite game at the time.

    What protocol does hTorrent use to communicare with BitTorrent peers? Webtorrent uses WebRtc which is incompatible with most torrent clients today

    gc_, do piracy w Stream any torrent in sync with your friends

    Could anyone tell me about how torrent streaming works? Is it just the file being downloaded to a server and streamed to a bunch of viewers, or something else?

    Spacellary, (edited )

    I use WebTorrent / WebTorrent-CLI and it basically streams/partially downloads the torrent and plays in your player of choice.

    Not sure about this other option here.

    Hmm, I wonder if this could be aadapted to a Stremio plugin.

    Jacoolh,

    I was just about to ask this.

    kratoz29,

    Check this

    kratoz29,

    Don’t we already have Peario?

    I didn't know that we did, but yes, apparently! lol :O

    That is awesome.

    kratoz29,

    I have not been able to check it out myself, so if you do please share the experience :D
