Have you been plugging your ears the past few years? Valve came out with Alyx, which was an amazing and first of it’s kind game. CS2 is basically in public beta at this point, and they are actively working on at least one new IP.
Also they have been updating TF2 again, which means a lot to me because I like TF2.
there was an interesting take about that on the wan show (not ms but steam). the emphasis was on steam’s value, which is unknown but actually very high

The game's great, but they should fix the inventory (is a complete mess, seems one from a game in the '90), the font size of the UI and they should let me see the cards/stats of every member of my party, even the ones which are in my camp, so I can decide what items or enhancements are best suited for them.
This is basically my only nitpick, too, playing with a controller. D:OS2 was better. I don't need the character stuff taking up half the screen of inventory management, especially when it isn't done in a way that really enhances your information on the utility of equipment to your character.
Inventory should be its own section, so you can use the triggers to hop between tabs of different types of gear. I'd also like it if they took inspiration from Elden Ring for what it does display on the characters. It's also not perfect, but letting you cycle which info sheets show in the extra panes provides a good balance between making a lot of information readily accessible without making it a chore to find.
If you’re interested in 4X games at all Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri is only $1.49. It absolutely holds up and to this day probably still has the best story of any 4X game.
It also works great on Steamdeck with a couple of easy tweaks. Unfortunately the instructions for those tweaks are currently in Reddit blackout shutdown limbo so I can’t copy them here, but when the blackout ends you can Find The Instructions Here.
I’d only play it if the game wasn’t P2W despite one having to pay for it. If P2W is removed, I’d consider it. Otherwise, don’t bet on me playing it anytime soon.
From the No Pay To Win Coalition’s review on Steam:
“Overall: 2/5*
Not recommended!
Likely to become a P2W, due to it being a GaaS game.
Bad progression system, rigged against newbies.
Other issues:
Cheaters
GaaS
A low-poly Battlefield copy. ”
If it isn’t P2W as of right now, it will be that way. This also has to do with old-school ownership, as you’re paying for a license that will be revoked any time the devs feel like it.
